GM unveiled the all-new third-generation 2023 GMC Canyon earlier this month, showing off the pickup’s new exterior styling and overhauled cabin space, as well as debuting a new powertrain, new tech goodies, and the AT4X off-roader. Now, GM Authority has exclusive photos of the new 2023 GMC Canyon Elevation.
The photos you see here are in fact the very-first shots of the 2023 GMC Canyon Elevation anywhere, as GM has yet to even release press photos of this particular trim level. For those readers who may be unaware, the 2023 GMC Canyon Elevation is the entry-level trim of the lineup, slotting in below the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4. The GMC Canyon Elevation Standard was deleted for the 2023 model year, making the Canyon Elevation the new entry-level trim.
Up front, we see the revised fascia design introduced with the latest third generation, including a large rectangular grille section and thin upper lighting signatures that lead into vertical lighting elements stretched down along the perimeter. As we see here, the 2023 GMC Canyon Elevation incorporates a simple black grille insert design and bright red GMC badging mounted high and center.
Moving over to the profile, we see the 2023 GMC Canyon Elevation riding on standard 18-inch wheels with a black finish for the six-spoke design. Also notable are the Gloss Black mirror caps and body-colored door hands, while an Elevation badge is located low on the front doors.
Finally, the rear view shows C-shaped taillight housings, as well as a single exhaust pipe that terminates just behind the passenger-side rear tire.
As a reminder, the entirety of the 2023 GMC Canyon lineup is equipped as standard with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine. Although the 2.7L I4 L3B is available in multiple states of tune under the hood of the 2023 GMC Canyon’s corporate cousin, the 2023 Chevy Colorado, the all-new Canyon is available exclusively in the top 2.7L Turbo High Output tune, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.
Production of the 2023 GMC Canyon is set to kick off in January at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

No SLE trim???
Hasn’t been an SLE trim on Canyon starting in 2021. The trim levels were revamped for the refresh.
Hard to tell, but are the rear shocks outboard of the frame like the AT4X?
Early reporting stated all Canyons will be wide track with rear outboard shocks, however the Colorado will only have that feature on the Trail Boss and ZR2.
Never understood all the calls for out board mounted shocks, those also have down falls especially on a leaf spring vehicle.
For towing and hauling I want my leafs as wide as possible as those hold and control the load the most. In board mounted shocks off road can get damaged when you slide off a rock or a hazard, having them in board mounted makes them less susceptible to damage in those situations.
While I agree having them up higher is better they only have do much room to play with and a set amount of travel they target. I personally would want my springs as wide as possible (aiding in stability) and my shocks mounted in and close to that while up higher but not limiting travel, at least above the pumpkin.
Shocks will drag regardless, I would rather they not become a point of contact when miss judging a line slightly and sliding off a rock (usually you try and drive over if you can’t avoid).
I thought it was only the Multimatic trucks (ZR2 + AT4X) that moved the rear shock out-board.
Strange that the high output tune is the only Canyon engine available (not that I’m complaining).
Nice truck, would buy one but not with the baby bed. Get real gm.
Would never buy mid size truck again had a 2022 tocoma hated it traded it for a 2022 che trail boss bought the tacoma new put biger tires running bords light bar and auto lock and unlock comes on all chevs.my son has a 2021 chev zr2 hates it to small and whe is the last time most pepole go off road? Thats what side x sides are for
Nice to see the Elevation! Now I want to see the interior of it.
The Blacked Out wheels do work for this color, I’m no fan of them, hopefully they’ll have a couple of more options.
I agree not a fan of the black wheels, I have a 2020 GMC Canyon Elevation option for that year, and it has the gun metal wheels. Those would look nice on this 2023 GMC Canyon Elevation..
Looks like it is riding around on 4 spare tires. Hopefully there are other choices in wheels besides these.
I like the black wheels, u don’t have to constantly clean them.
Will the elevation have a package x31 or something similar to get the locking differential and two speed transfer case. Or is that simply the at4 package
