Debuting a fresh third generation for the midsize pickup nameplate, the 2023 Chevy Colorado introduces a broad range of changes and updates over the preceding 2022 model year. Among these is a new tailgate storage system, as detailed right here in the following GM Authority feature spotlight.
The new tailgate storage system for the 2023 Chevy Colorado is included as standard for the range-topping 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 off-roader, while the rest of the trim level lineup (WT, Trail Boss, LT, and Z71) offer the tailgate storage system as an optional extra.
The new built-in tailgate storage system is framed as a segment first, offering customers a secure, water-tight, and convenient storage solution. With the tailgate lowered, the system incorporates a lockable lid that opens to provide access to a compartment that is 45 inches wide and 4 inches deep, and includes a drain. The tailgate also incorporates two cupholders, as well as a measuring tool that’s molded right into the surface of the tailgate.
For those 2023 Chevy Colorado customers eager to maximize the practicality of their new pickup, this new tailgate storage system looks to be a must.
In addition to the new tailgate storage, the 2023 Chevy Colorado also features a brand-new exterior, with a more technical, premium appearance compared to previous generations. The interior space was also completely overhauled and features a wide variety of GM safety tech, as well as a standard 11.3-inch diagonal color infotainment screen and 8-inch diagonal digital color instrument display.
Under the hood, the 2023 Chevy Colorado is available with a single powerplant, specifically the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, which can be had in three states of tune, depending on the trim level selected. Output levels range between 237 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque for the “base” 2.7L Turbo tune (which will get its own unique RPO code), 310 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque for the 2.7L Turbo Plus tune, and finally, 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque for the top 2.7L Turbo High-Output tune.
The second-gen GM 8-speed automatic transmission provides the cog swaps, while under the skin is the GM GMT 31XX platform. Production kicks off early next year at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

I am concerned about the price gouging I was looking at a at4x that somebody backed out of they wanted 10,000 more over sticker very disappointed.
Will the tailgate work on a 2017 zr2.
Needs all the space cubbies possible since it has a tiny bed. Give us the option of a long bed. And all u people that think the short bed is fine are full of crap. Carry 12 foot lumber .
@Ken Exactly, I am so sick of these modern day station wagons with 4 huge doors. Give me 2 doors and a bigger bed. People have forgot what a truck is for.
they’re 1/4 tons and much less topped by ZR2 literally built specifically for off-roading & duning and the boomers complaining about bed length lol bc a king bed would be so smart and useful for a 1/4 ton 4wheeler that needs approach angle, clearance, etc.
long* not king lol autocorrect
Yuppie dads still want to look cool driving their kids to school. I have long said 4 door trucks are a joke. If you’re hauling a work crew than fine, that is what 4 door trucks were originally designed for. Save some money or don’t. I am on track to retire early. Not everyone needs a Cummins or a Power stroke, but people still use them as daily drivers????
1500 lbs bed capacity, and how many people are really taken these things off road! Home owners need long bed trucks. U can’t build a deck with 8’ boards.
“The tailgate also incorporates two cupholders”
Those are not cupholders, look at it in the corner of the tailgate in the picture, hilarious! Those are as much as a cup holder as the 1960’s glovebox door indentations were.
