GM has started a Customer Satisfaction Program to retrofit heated and ventilated seats in certain 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 and Sierra 1500 Limited trucks that were impacted by the semiconductor chip shortage.
Certain 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 and Sierra 1500 Limited models were produced without heated/ventilated front seats, heated front seats and/or rear heated seats as a result of the chip shortage. Owners were made aware their vehicle lacked these features at the time of purchase, with GM saying it would retrofit them into these vehicles at a later date. Owners were also provided with a purchase credit in exchange for these features’ absence.
GM began producing the GMC Sierra without heated and/or ventilated seats in November 2021 to ensure it could maintain an adequate supply of the nameplate, even amid a severe shortage of electronic components. It took this same strategy with the closely related Chevy Silverado 1500, as well as other vehicles from the Chevy, GMC, Buick and Cadillac product portfolios.
Owners of affected vehicles that do not participate in this Customer Satisfaction Program will not be able to have heated and/or ventilated seats installed in their vehicle once the base bumper-to-bumper warranty expires. The GMC limited warranty covers any defects in materials or workmanship for up to 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Dealer technicians will be instructed to install the heated/ventilated front seats, heated front seats and/or rear heated seats in affected vehicles and update the vehicle’s body control module (BCM). Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by GM once parts become available, at which point they will be able to bring their vehicle in for service.
GM will shift to production of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 on August 29th, which applies to both Regular Cab and Crew Cab models. Production of Double Cab models, meanwhile, will begin a week later on September 6th. The premium light-duty truck is produced at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and GM Silao plant in Mexico and GM Oshawa plant in Ontario.
Various parts shortages are expected to continue on the GMC Sierra 1500 for the 2023 model year, with the MultiPro tailgate set to be under constraint once production kicks off.

Wonderful!!! Now just need to get my truck that was ordered Feb 1st…. What a joke.
All though a different vehicle, I ordered a chevy Spark on February 9th and still no build date. Looks like they will just not build it at all since they quit production on the Spark on August 31st.
There as been several built with same trim and options that where ordered after mine.
Don’t understand how that can happen even with parts shortages.
We ordered a 2022 GMC 1500 in April. Told it would be ready for pick up next week. Supposedly came off assembly mid-June and was missing parts.
Now, if they would do a retrofit for all of us who ordered the max trailer package and was forced to delete it in our order get our vehicle in a not so timely manner would be nice
Dealer technicians will install the heated/ventilated front seats, heated front seats and/or rear heated seats in affected vehicles and update the vehicle’s body control module (BCM).
What? it was my understanding that all the components of the seats, heating elements for example, were already in place. The missing item was a semiconductor contained in the area where the switch to control the heated seats was located.
A simple five minute fix in the case of heated seats. This article seems to suggest the seats will be replaced or taken apart and have components/elements installed there. Does anyone really know what’s going on with this retrofit?
The article is incorrectly describing what will take place. The dealer will need to install the missing microchip(s) then probably some programming to recognize the chip so all buttons work as expected.
Thanks. That is exactly what the dealer told me when I purchased my ’22 GMC Canyon with the $50 credit because the chip retrofit was to take place in a few months. Not anything about having to replace seats.
Now in the case of the heated steering wheel (which fortunately I did have), that would require a replacement wheel.
Any update on the rear heated seats for the 2022 Sierra HD Denali?
I would like to know that as well. We have one and have not heard a word about getting them installed.
I would appreciate an update on my heated seat chips for my 2022 gmc serria it was purchased in January
At least the buyers could get a better idea of when it’s already been 9 months… not 3 or 4 weeks which the dealership said it would then do at no charge.
impatiently awaiting the retrofit for my 2022 Blazer RS heated/ventilated seats front and rear and my heated steering wheel. These would be nice to have before winter hits.
Please email with followup comments on the chip for GMC Terrain. When will they arrive?
Had a 2021 and lost the lifters and now a 2022 ltz z71 missing chips and dealer just told me they would get 5 per month and it was first come first serve for the chips to have heated seats. getting ready to buy a 20 year old dodge cummins
If they cant complete the retrofits I would hope GMC doesnt install the parts in the new vehicles prior to completing the retrofits…
Oh they definitely are. Had it out with them over the phone because I was standing on the lot at my local dealer who had 12 unowned sierras on the lot all with heated seats installed. I’ve been waiting since I took delivery of my sierra in January and still haven’t heard a thing
Same here Ed. I bought my 2022 2500 AT4 in January and am still waiting.
Bought mine in April of 22. Ordered a Sierra Limited and ultimately settled on a Refreshed 2022 that arrived at dealership by mistake. I ordered the first one in September of 2021-never did arrive.
Was promised all the 5 features wopuld be working by mid summer. Not any closer now than I was in April. No one wants to commit,no one has answers but GM is still selling new trucks with the parts that SHOULD be in mine.
HOW IS THAT FAIR! Going to put the $50.00 “inconvience fee” up somebody’s butt. Where do I sign up for law suit?
I have purchased 13 new GMC & Chevy suv’s & Trucks since 2016 for myself and family members. When I ordered my last GMC HD in October 2021 and received it February 2022 the salesman told me retrofits would began 2nd quarter of 2022. I am afraid like everyone else that GM is going to screw everyone. I have already looked at an Explorer instead of a Traverse and a Ford F350 with a Power stroke instead of a GM HD with a Duramax. I hope a million of us life long buyers dump GM and then hope Biden doesn’t bail them out when they go crying to the gov’t.
What is GM doing for customers? Nothing that’s the answer. I want a retro fit of my payment plan since they haven’t held up their end of the bargin.
Retribution
Last week I sent off another nasty letter to my CSR rep. The next day I got a message on the info screen that my 22 1/2 GMC Sierra needs an update and to park the vehicle for 5 to 10 minutes in a safe area. Do NOT lock the truck. SO I had lunch while the truck “updated” itself. Later that day I noticed that the right side rear view mirror no longer “drops” when in reverse. I also notice that my tailgate no longer locks when I lock the vehicle and the memory function of the drivers seat no longer works. Co- incidence – yes Funny -NO
I am becoming very familiar with the staff at my local GM dealer- I spend so much time there that some mistakingly think I work there.
If my 2018 Sierra was still on the lot I would buy it back!!!
Bought my SLT off the lot. No hot seats or wheel. No notification from Govt Motors as of 15 OCT22. The dealership just wants to move trucks and stay in business with GM sticking it to both customers and their signatory dealers. My loyalty is over.
What is hard to swallow is I have been looking for a Yukon XL for weeks and when I find one that dealership will have a market adjustment price of anywhere from $2000 to $10,000. GM must realize and know the dealerships that are doing this and cut off the product headed there and reroute it to dealerships that have painfully stayed at MSRP or some even below to try and curb this LARGE movement of buyers thinking of leaving GM. I do understand that most of the problem is not the dealers fault but the maybe never happening retrofits should be enough. The bending over of loyal GM customers with market price adjustments on top of everything else is just wrong. If it weren’t for the spineless buyers that keep getting back in line to purchase again after getting shafted, we might curb this problem. If you can’t trade or sell your non retrofit unit and you’er 2K to 10K upside down in it because of market adjustments we have no one to blame but ourselves.
Sadly there are thousands of unfinished units waiting to be finished, so many I heard they have to move them to other locations just to have room to park them. Weird that GM could have a grave yard full of forgotten 2022 cars and trucks that who knows when might get put back into the lineup to be finished on top of all the units waiting to be retrofitted that were delivered and still waiting to be completed. Sadly we are not alone. I know two rental car companies that 1 has 70 and the other has 100 new suburbans/travers’s/etc sitting on their lots that can’t be used because they have not completed, and are unable to be rented. I getting an Explorer Platinum and talking my daughter into an Expedition Max King Ranch and I will order a F-350 diesel this time. around.Every 60K–85K–100K that I can keep from giving GM would go a lot farther if a few hundred thousand other loyal GM buyers would join me.
Im fed up with GMC. I shouldn’t have any sympathy for the dealerships. I bought from an old school Mom n Pop dealer not a chain store GMC joint. So £uck GMC. Edit or delete as the moderator sees fit.
Just had my retro fit on heated seats completed . Unfortunately took longer than expected to complete due to needing more parts but it’s completed. I did reach out to GM customer service and was told that I was eligible. Letter came a week later .
I received an e- mail several months ago saying my chips should be available soon haven’t heard anything since bought the truck in march 2022.
Bought my truck in March 2022 and was told it would take long to get the heated seats and steering wheel. Well here we are in November and nothing. What made it even more awesome was I took my vehicle in to get something fixed and the brand new GMC truck had heated seats and steering wheel. When I called GM to express my displeasure they said they had to put them in the new trucks as they were losing too many sales, and they would eventually get chips for me. I can guarantee this will be my last GM.
Hi Larry, thank you for patiently waiting! Upon checking, the chips needed for your vehicle is the heated seats, heated steering wheel and front and rear park assist.
In late July, parts were made available to begin the Heated and Ventilated Seats retrofit. Eligible customers then began making service appointments to complete the retrofits. We are making good progress with this retrofit campaign, and we expect that all customers impacted by the Heated and Ventilated Seat shortage should be eligible for retrofit by the end of 2022. With the remaining extensive volume of vehicles, actual vehicle completions will continue into the beginning of 2023.
I also checked that Front and Rear Park Assist and Heated Steering Wheel – estimated to begin Q1 2023. I understand that you really need the chip for your vehicle. However, we do apologize but we do not have specific timeframe when the chips be available but rest assure that you can receive a notification from GM once there is an available. Once you receive it, you may message us back so we can set up an scheduled appointment to your preferred dealership. I will also create a case for this so GM will know about it.
Larry Jochec – this sounds promising. Sounds like this is a response to an email or something you sent to GM, who did you contact? Please provide the info so others can request the same. thanks
GM customer service created case
After just ending the call w GM Customer Service, the advisor has repeated, almost verbatim, the message I received in August. Customer Service are stuck in a hard spot. The GM management be in the same position when brand loyalty succumbs to customer migration toward the competition. I’ve yet to speak with a Sierra owner who has gotten a notification from GM announcing parts availability for installation. Tired of GM’s BS.

I bought my truck at end of April like these other people and was told the chip for the heated seats and steering wheel would not be available until July. Its almost December and no chip. Who in Canada would by a truck with no heated seats? I have been a loyal GM buyer forever, not impressed. Now they re selling newer trucks with the chip installed? Going to be a cold discontent winter for us. I would like some help with this also if you can.
Get it together gm!! Bought my 2022 Sierra beginning of march and still waiting on my heated seats. Quit investing in the electric cars and fix the ones people actually want!! We have bought 3 new tahoes, 1 new suburban, and a new Sierra all in the last year but we are putting gm on our last nerve!!
Ordered my 2022 GMC HD 2500 October 2021 and picked up February 3 2022 and have received no info from GM on a when or a were any retrofits will tack place. Bought a 2023 Enclave Avanier off the lot that another buyer backed out on and have a 2023 Yukon XL AT4 waiting for my daughter to pick up from dealership. Why should GM fix anything when dumb sh!ts like us keep buying their unfinished autos. I have tried to buy some new Fords instead but their inventory is just as bad the only good thing with Ford their units are complete when they are delivered. I will put more effort when shopping Ford next time because GM and representing dealerships have not told me the truth yet and in fact when I picked up my $80K truck told me retrofits would happen 3rd Quarter 2022 so I guess they do lie to make sales. I’ve had finally learned my lesson and hope other have learned theirs .
Just went in for my first free service and while I was there they checked my Vin# and told me it showed nothing as far as any time frame to get my Seats and wheel completed. I think it is weird that different cars are missing different parts. My new Enclave only missing park assist while the next guy is missing parking sensors and steering wheel and I’m missing heated and vent seats and heated wheel but have park sensors. Such a large company using a dart board to pick what car gets what. I did like the response that they are losing too many sales by not completing cars. But now they are going to lose my sales which have totaled 15 new suv’s and trucks since 2016.Hard to guess why they would screw over the buyers that gave them hard earned cash money on only a promise (lie) they would get them completed quickly. I’m DONE The used market is going to take a big dump here soon and we’re stuck with trucks and cars no one wants on trade because they aren’t finished.
14 months since purchasing my 2022 and still no heated seats. Get emails weekly from GM about everything under the sun except on updates of heated seats!
I received an email in January 2022 telling me to have the dealership send for the parts to fix my heated and cooled seats. I put it off until march hoping to hear on my heated steering wheel so called GM No luck. Will have to make a 2nd 250 mile round trip to wheel done later but at least 1/2 my stuff getting complicated. Still think I will look at a Ford or Ram next time.
i have a 2022 GMC Sierra Denalia. When will the heated seats be available for my truck?
