2022 Chevy Equinox Praised By Consumer Reports For Usability And Controls

The 2022 Chevy Equinox introduces a full model refresh for the crossover, with updates made to the exterior styling, the interior, and the powertrain. Now, Consumer Reports has recognized the 2022 Chevy Equinox as one of the best vehicles available in terms of usability and controls.

In a recent post, Consumer Reports looked at vehicles that scored well in the organization’s evaluations and tests, identifying “stress-free” vehicles that exhibited a high degree of quietness, visibility, easy-to-use controls, and rear-seat comfort. In total, Consumer Reports looked at more than 50 objective and subjective tests, then tabulated the results into composite scores for the sake of comparison.

Through this process, Consumer Reports identified four categories which a buyer may consider to be deal-breakers, and which vehicles performed well in these categories – including the 2022 Chevy Equinox.

Per the Consumer Reports evaluation, the 2022 Chevy Equinox managed to score four out five in the majority of Comfort / Convenience categories, including Ride, Noise, Front Seat Comfort, and Rear Seat Comfort. In the categories of Truck / Cargo Area, as well as Interior Fit and Finish, the 2022 Equinox managed a score of three out of five.

Notably, the 2022 Chevy Equinox managed an overall score of 74 points (out of a possible 100), landing it in eighth-place in the segment. Consumer Reports also recorded a score of 78 out of 100 in the Road Test evaluation, a score of three out of five in terms of Predicted Reliability, and a score of three out of five in Predicted Owner Satisfaction.

As a reminder, the 2022 Chevy Equinox features the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX gasoline engine as standard, rated at 170 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 203 pound-feet of torque at 2,000 rpm. Under the skin, the Equinox rides on the GM D2 platform, while production for the North American market takes place at GM Ramos Arizpe plant and GM San Luis Potosí plant, both of which are located in Mexico.

  1. Some car interiors just work. I once test drove a Honda Civic and was amazed at how memorable the button placement was. It takes hard work in the design phase to get it right. Good job, Chevy.

  2. It’s a shame the engine has no power.

  3. Had mine for 7 months and am very satisfied with it even though I have only drove it under 7000 km but not satisfied with GM for not supplying my dealership with the chip for the heated/cooled seats as of yet. At our age(my wife and I,78-80) it means so much to us for the needed comfort year round!!! Good thing our second vehicle has heated seats!!!

  4. I agree with Consumer Report on their evaluations of the Equinox. Owning a Premier model, I find the Human Factors of the instrument panel easy to use for this 70+ year old. The heated seats are supportive, lumbar in correct position, and sewing quality of the leather seats very good. Only complaint the engine should be the 2.0 for a little more pep!

  7. I’ve been in several Equinox’s over the past few years and they always seemed nice. I have not owned one. However, I kind of feel like my Malibu is very similar, just in a sedan form. Based on that, I will say that my Malibu is one of the easiest cars I’ve driven, quiet, rides so well, nice visibility and I truly feel safe when driving it. Every control is easy to use and understand while being within reach. Hopefully C.R. will do a similar ranking for the Malibu as well.

  9. I got the 1.5 in my FWD 19 because the 2.0 needed premium fuel, certainly glad now that I got the 1.5 which gets 30 mpg highway and performs flawlessly.

  11. Premium fuel is recomended, not required in the 2.0 liter turbo, I have been running it for 2 years no trouble but I don’t tow anything either.

    1. Are you saying you use premium, or are you saying you use regular.
