Will The 2024 Silverado HD Ditch The Column Shifter?

GM is developing a full model refresh for the Chevy Silverado HD, with the debut scheduled to drop for the 2024 model year. Among the many updates slated for the 2024 Silverado HD is a brand-new interior, but the question is – will the 2024 Silverado HD ditch the column shifter?
Late last month, GM Authority published the first glimpse of the refreshed 2024 Silverado HD interior, showing off a completely overhauled cabin space. Although the photos don’t reveal the entire interior, there are a few interesting clues as to what it will offer.
However, it’s particularly noteworthy that the cabin does not appear to have a column-mounted shifter mechanism similar to the current, pre-refresh Chevy Silverado HD. This is particularly important as the upcoming 2024 Silverado HD will be equipped with a larger infotainment screen, which means that a column-mounted shifter could potentially block the view of the screen in the refreshed model.
Indeed, looking over the interior of the refreshed model, we see what appears to be a large, horizontally oriented touchscreen mounted adjacent to a large gauge hood. This new screen appears to be far larger than the screen equipped by the current Silverado HD.
Further updates for the refreshed 2024 Silverado HD include tall, vertically oriented HVAC vents with horizontal slates and a polished trim surround placed to the left of the gauge pod hood, while the gauge pod hood itself has a glossy black finish. On top of the gauge pod, we also spot stitched upholstery.
All in all, the interior layout for the 2024 Silverado HD appears to be quite similar to the interior layout on offer with the full refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 light-duty pickup. With that in mind, it’s quite possible the refreshed heavy-duty pickup will also be equipped with an electronically controlled gear selector on the console, similar to the light-duty model.
Beyond the interior, the 2024 Silverado HD will also introduce a new ZR2 off-roader trim, as well as several powertrain updates.

Console mounted shifter means no more split bench which means no more Chevys for me.
Ahhhh…. If they copy the current refreshed interior 1500. Only the LTZ and high country will not offer the bench seat.
You will be able to get a bench seat in the WT and basic LT.
That logic isn’t correct. They can have both options, particularly for electronic shifters. Current vehicles that have both column and console options include the Silverado/Sierra LD, F-150; Ford Explorer, Dodge Durango, Dodge Charger (all cop car models).
The Ram HD has both now because the 6-speed on the diesel is mechanically shifted with the column and the 8 speed gas has the electronic dial.
Older models with both included the Impala, Toyota Tundra, Toyota Avalon, Ford Taurus.
I am not a fan of a console shifter. It takes up space I would rather have for something else. I will down grade my purchase to get the column shifter. I am leaning toward a bench seat anyway as it offers more utility by accommodating another passenger. Oh darn, the column shifter may block view of the infotainment screen? Does anyone remember, you’re not supposed to be looking at it anyway while driving? Also remember that GM, oops, gm has trouble making a reliable console shifter? See “shift to park” errors posted elsewhere by many others. I’ve had to fix mine twice on a SUV. The latest at my expense.
The volume shifter is the best it’s what makes a truck a truck trucks shouldn’t even have a console shifter like a car.
I meant column shifter but also If I had to choose between the console shifter and the ram knob shifter I’d rather have the ram knob shifter than the console shifter even though I prefer the column shifter.
I have a 2022 Sierra and really like it but I will confess I kind of miss the hockey puck shifter on my 2017 Ram. Freed up space for a much bigger console.
The front wheels and tires look smaller than the rear wheels and tires. Is it an optical illusion?
Optical illusion, the front tires are turned to the right slightly causing the illusion, but at first glance they for sure look smaller.
Try push button shifters from the old Chryslers since they seem to like a lot of buttons.
Put the damn shifter on the console…….but a regular shift HANDLE , not a door knob!!!!!!!!!!
Any place BUT the console.
