GM’s OnStar Opens New Command Center In South America

General Motors has just inaugurated a new OnStar Command Center to meet the requests of Chevrolet vehicle users in South America, consolidating itself as the company that invests the most in connected services in that region.

GM’s South American subsidiary opened the new OnStar Command Center in the city of São Caetano do Sul, in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, where the company’s main facilities and regional headquarters are located. The new facility will serve the more than 470,000 active subscribers that the telematics service currently has in the domestic market of Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Uruguay, Paraguay and Peru.

“The opening of the new Command Center allows for even more dynamic and customized support for OnStar’s 24/7 call centers,” said Director of Connected Services of GM South America, Jaime Gil, in a statement. “OnStar’s connected services are available to more than 470,000 active customers in the region,” he added.

OnStar’s new Command Center for South America has been upgraded to meet the latest standard of global service excellence, offered exclusively on Chevrolet vehicles in the region. The comprehensive upgrade of the facilities will help provide even more dynamic and personalized support for the call centers, with a multidisciplinary team that offers attention to all the users of the American subcontinent.

To contact the call terminal of the new OnStar Command Center in South America, users have three options, including using the personalized attention option of the MyChevrolet mobile application, dialing the service’s local telephone number or directly pressing the blue button on the internal rearview mirror of the vehicle. In addition, customers can receive notifications through WhatsApp about problems and revisions of their unit.

GM’s OnStar continues to grow exponentially in South America, and the new Command Center paves the way to meet increased demand in the coming years. Last year alone, OnStar completed more than 840,000 requests across the region, helping to resolve a variety of issues ranging from emergencies and thefts, to help ease traffic and improve the customer’s vehicle experience.

  1. Not long ago everyone was freaking out about the government wanting a kill switch installed in every new vehicle. We have had that ability for years, and much more with OnStar. Oop’s, you arrived at your destination much too soon. We have calculated your speed and have issued you a citation, have a nice day Mr. Smith.

      1. So if you’re in Brazil, you want to be supporting American jobs? Your argument works both ways.

  5. I agree with Lance. My new 2022 refreshed GMC Sierra has the Google navigation option but costs me twice as much per month for DATA to run it as my previous Sierra’s. I have no choice but to pay for the extra DATA every month. A monopoly ????

    1. Just shut your data plan off and navigate using Android Auto and your phone.

  6. In 2002 my new Suburban had OnStar – this was pre digital maps on cell phones. We drove cross country pushing that Blue Button along the way and it was great. As soon as the trial subscription ended, so did OnStar.
In 2021 March took delivery of 2021 C8 Corvette, with 1 month OnStar…
Before subscription lapsed I TRIED to use the website to see what I had and to consider continuing it. For fun.
The website is confusing with numerous product offering switch confusing names and lists of features that make
it difficult to know what I have and what to continue.
So I called them, and was told that the correct way to continue is to call, because the website does not have what I want.

I never renewed, and never regretted it. My phone has all I need. Now I get postal mail with offers to come back to OnStar,
but every single offer requires that I talk to a representative, by pushing the Blue Button or by calling.
Anytime in todays high-tech world you have to call it is so high-pressure sales people can get the gold from you.
The Gold that is your Credit Card Number for a subscription.

What did my OnStar do in my New car:
    1. Turn my car on and off (start/stop) from my phone remotely. (pretty cool).
    2. Locate my car remotely (pretty cool).
    3. Check my odometer reading remotely (like when it was in for service and they put ten miles on it).
    4. Gives me email updates when something is wrong like tire pressure or a check engine light.
    5. I do like the in an accident call for help (that should be free).

I seem to remember the birth of OnStar is when GM purchased Hughes Electronics (and Satellite corporation) around
    1985 for $5 billion .

  8. New Suburban, did the OnStar activation call. Was greeted by someone catching a snooze and snoring. The person might have realized they were patched through to a customer when I woke them up with my “hello?” but they didn’t answer.
