GMC Sierra 1500 Satisfaction Program Issued For Incorrect Accessory Exhaust

General Motors has started a Customer Satisfaction Program to address an issue involving an accessory exhaust system on certain 2022 model year GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks.

The problem: the available Accessory Exhaust Upgrade (RPO code WBC) may cause damage to the rear bumper/rear fascia when installed on the 2022 model year GMC Sierra 1500.

The hazards: the available performance Accessory Exhaust Upgrade may cause damage to the truck’s rear bumper/fascia due to a lack of clearance between the bumper and the exhaust tip. While this does not pose an immediate safety hazard to vehicle occupants, owners will obviously want to avoid damaging their vehicle’s rear fascia with the accessory exhaust.

The fix: dealers will be instructed to replace the accessory exhaust with the factory exhaust and, if necessary, replace the rear fascia and any wiring that may have been damaged from the exhaust heat. Dealers will also issue a refund check for the accessory exhaust, as an alternative design for the system is currently not available.

Affected components: rear fascia, accessory exhaust, wiring.

Affected vehicles:

  • 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 (equipped with RPO WBC accessory exhaust only)

Number of affected vehicles: it’s not clear how many units are affected by this problem. To reiterate, only 2022 model year GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles with the RPO WBC accessory exhaust are affected.

Owners should: GM will notify owners of affected vehicles and instruct them to make an appointment with their dealer. Owners that are unsure whether or not their vehicle is affected by this Customer Satisfaction Program can reach out to GM directly with any questions or concerns they may have using the Service Update number and contact information included below.

  1. How does something this obvious get missed by QC? Another thing that proves Corporate Stupidity is alive and well. Get your act together GM.

  2. I always wait until the factory exhaust rots off. Then I go aftermarket. Usually by then the vehicle is a pile of rust and it’s not worth an OEM system.

  3. When you aim to distinguish two models the Sierra and Silverado, you’d think GM would offer accessory equivalents to account for the dynamic designs?

And don’t get me started on GM failing to redesign the AT4X bumper but did so on the ZR2
