GM Files To Trademark StowPro For Pickup Truck Tailgate Use

GM has filed to trademark StowPro for a potential new pickup truck tailgate design.

This GM trademark filing has been assigned application number 97491246 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and was published on July 6th, 2022. It was filed under a Good and Services category reserved for “Tailgates for motor land vehicles.”

This trademark filing is likely the name of a potential new multifunction GMC tailgate design similar to the MultiPro tailgate. The name ‘StowPro’ would suggest the tailgate will help the user stow cargo in some fashion, potentially with lockable storage boxes or some other type of cargo cavity design. It may also expand on the capabilities of MultiPro, allowing the user greater freedom when it comes to storing large items in the bed.

GM recently filed a patent application for a reconfigurable pickup bed and endgate, which incorporates inflatable bed panels to provide added cushioning and support for items stored in the bed area. This trademark filing does not appear to be related to that patent, however it’s interesting to see GM continue to explore ways to innovate the pickup truck bed/tailgate area after the success of the GMC MultiPro and Chevy MutliFlex tailgates.

The GMC MultiPro tailgate design was first introduced on the GMC Sierra before later being rebranded as MutliFlex and introduced on the Chevy Silverado as well. A similar rollout strategy will likely take place with StowPro, assuming this tailgate design will reach production, with GM first offering it on GMC trucks before expanding it to the Chevy brand, as well.

We’ll continue to keep our ear to the ground for more information on the rumored StowPro tailgate design. In the meantime, be sure to subscribe to GM Authority for more GM patent filing news, GM technology news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

  1. Maybe they will use the void for storage? A place to put tie downs, recovery hooks, etc? Something like this would be a great use of that area.

  2. What they ought to patent is a LowPro hydraulic tailgate lift since the bed’s so damned high you practically need a forklift to load it

  3. what they need to do is change the tail gate to not open when you have a receiver and ball in place, so it does not hit tailgate, and wreck it. I, have not done this, but it will and has happened . i like to leave my received in place all the time .
