Chevy Silverado Gets Service Update For Aero Shutter Wiring Harness Issue

GM has issued a service update for a problem related to the wiring harness for the front aerodynamic grille shutter on certain 2022 model year Chevy Silverado 1500 and Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited models.

The problem: in affected vehicles, the factory wiring harness for the front aerodynamic grille shutter was installed in a way where it may impact the active aero shutter during operation.

The hazards: GM did not specify what issues this condition may lead to, although owners will want to have the service update performed to avoid potential wiring harness damage and ensure the active grille shutter works as intended throughout the life of the vehicle.

The fix: dealership service technicians are instructed to add a tie strap to the wiring harness, which will secure it to the vehicle and ensure it does not contact the active grille shutter while it’s moving. These repairs will be performed at no cost to the vehicle owner.

Affected components: front aerodynamic grille shutter, grille shutter wiring harness.

Affected vehicles:

  • 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500
  • 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited

Number of affected vehicles: GM did not specify how many vehicles are affected by this particular problem.

Owners should: GM will likely notify owners of affected vehicles and instruct them to make an appointment with their dealer. Owners that are unsure whether or not their vehicle is affected by this service bulletin can reach out to GM directly with any questions or concerns they may have using the Service Update number and contact information included below.

Is that an official GM zip-tie or a cheap generic one?

  2. Interesting, my older Silverado doesn’t have this shutter and I haven’t seen one yet. I’m curious about how it works in the winter when ice, snow, and slush can accumulate on the grill and front of the truck while driving?

    1. Hopefully it’s frozen shut. One of the main advantages of the grill shutter is it will attempt to keep the engine bay the right temperature. It shouldn’t open till the bay is roasting and all the ice is melted anyways

  6. Had my shutter fail (2018 Silverado 5.3L) after driving in heavy rain storm. Shutter failed while open. Small electric motor size of credit card and about 1/2 inch thick. Motor seemed tightly sealed but water seeped through cover and shorted circuits. Truck ran cooler and seemed to get 1 mpg better gas mileage. Replaced at $250 just to clear check engine light. Had to purchase complete shutter. Motor wasn’t available for purchase. Wish I had equipment to disable or delete. I silicone new shutter motor to help prevent any further water seepage.

  8. My 2022 refreshed Silverado has many electrical issues.
The rear auto lift gate no longer works, the crash alert on the mirrors no longer work, the memory seats no longer work. I am stuck with a truck that is a lemon barely has 2690 miles, now the dealer claims it’s all because I switched bumpers and used a old wire harness from that bumper.

  9. I’m starting to have issues with my 21 Denali Duramax. In for Reductant heater short to ground. Warranty. Has a problem with fan shutters now. Clutch fan is in default so it locked up, affecting fuel mileage bad. Says it’s not a warranty issue. 56,000 miles. I’m pissed.
