Consumer research company J.D. Power recently released the results of the 2022 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout study, otherwise known as the J.D. Power APEAL Study. As in years past, the study measures new-owner attachment and excitement levels, evaluating and ranking individual models, as well as car brands. Notably, Chevy ranked well in the latest study, slotting in at fourth place among Mass Market brands.
Now in its 27th year, the J.D. Power APEAL Study examines survey responses from owners in their first 90 days of ownership. The latest 2022 study collected a total of 84,165 survey responses based on vehicles registered between November of 2021 and February of 2022, with the study fielded between February and May of the 2022 calendar year.
The survey includes questions that cover 37 different vehicle attributes, such as the experience of stepping on the throttle, as well as how comfortable the seats are. From these responses, J.D. Power then computes an APEAL Index score based on a 1,000-point scale, with a higher score indicating higher customer appeal.
As a brand, Chevy ranked fourth in the mass market segment with a score of 851 points, slotting above Kia, which scored 849 points, and below GMC, which scored 856 points. The top-rated car brand in the segment was Dodge with a score of 882 points, while Ram was second with 863 points. The industry average score for all car brands ranked was 841 points.
Several Chevy models also secured runner-up positions in individual model segments, including the Chevy Corvette (Premium Sport Car) and Chevy Tahoe (Large SUV).
As GM Authority covered previously, Chevy also did well in the recent 2022 J.D. Power 2022 Initial Quality Study (IQS), ranking third overall among 33 car brands ranked and studied. Buick was the top-rated car brand in the latest IQS, followed by Dodge in second place.
