GM has issued a service update for certain Chevy Malibu and Cadillac XT4 models that were shipped missing a retainer for either the factory tire inflator or the factory spare wheel and tire.
The problem: a small number of Chevy Malibu and Cadillac XT4 models were mistakenly shipped to dealerships missing the retainer for either the tire inflator or the spare wheel and tire.
The hazards: the retainer for the inflator and the spare wheel and tire ensures these items are properly mounted to the vehicle and stay fixed in place. While this problem does not pose a safety hazard to the driver or vehicle occupants, it is ideal to have the retainer in place to ensure the inflator and/or spare wheel and tire do not shift while the vehicle is in motion.
The fix: GM dealer technicians will be instructed to inspect and, if necessary, install the retainer for the factory tire inflator and/or spare wheel and tire. This procedure will be performed at no cost to the vehicle owner.
Affected components: factory tire inflator retainer, spare wheel and tire retainer
Affected vehicles:
Number of affected vehicles: GM estimates only 207 vehicles will need to have the relevant retainers installed between both the Chevy Malibu and Cadillac XT4 nameplates.
Owners should: GM will likely notify owners of affected vehicles and instruct them to make an appointment with their dealer. Owners that are unsure whether or not their vehicle is affected by this service bulletin can reach out to GM directly with any questions or concerns they may have using the Service Update number and contact information included below.
