The 2022 Chevrolet Express represents the 19th model year of the nameplate. Both the passenger and cargo vans ride on the GM GMT 610 platform, and offer identical powertrain options, which include the 4.3L V6 LV1, 6.0L V8 L96, 6.0L V8 LC8, and Duramax turbo-diesel 2.8L I4 LWN engines. Notably, both 6.0-liter eight-cylinder engine options have been deleted for the 2021 model year, and replaced by the 6.6L V8 L8T V8 engine, along with other minor changes and updates for the 2021 Chevrolet Express.
While it is currently unclear when or if a next-generation Express will reach the market, we do know that the current model will continue to be sold through the 2023 calendar year. GM has provisions to extend production through 2025, if it deems necessary. Each model year will likely include minor changes, updates, and improvements, which has been the case since the inception of the current models.
In the meantime, several all-new battery-electric models are on the way to replace the two dated vans, with the first being the BrightDrop EV600 and BrightDrop EV410. These will be followed with a future electric Chevy commercial van, whose name has yet to be revealed. Since being launched at the beginning of last year, the BrightDrop ecosystem and integrated delivery system is already proving successful, with the electric delivery vans seeing high demand from the likes of Walmart, Verizon, FedEx, and Merchants Fleet.

Hmmm…. 26 years! My 1996 is an Express Conversion Van — first year of the new, and still the best body style, production started summer of 96, so it should have come out as a 1997, (some gov regs would not allow?) >
Very frustrating trying to replace it with a new Express…. GM’s bait and switch build website shows all sorts of inventory in stock or in transit, but when I call the dealers, they laugh and tell me every one has been sold in advance. After 50 years of buying new GM vans… I am not so loyal anymore.
Why is this relevant, since this is JULY 2, and posted today?
Looks like maybe supply chain problems are easing up. Hopefully, we will start seeing some Express and Savana vans appear on dealers lots. My local dealer says they are only taking orders for “fleet” buyers of 15 or more vans. Little guys just can’t win.
If anyone knows of a dealer on the west coast who will take an order for two 3500 vans, please let me know.
my new dealer (5 hours away) says GM is taking orders for 2023 models, but he won’t know his allocations for a couple of weeks … delivery?? who knows , he said expect up to six months. He does not have 2023 pricing yet. Well, that is the most optimistic response I have heard in one year.
