Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
Despite the 15 percent drop in Cadillac Escalade sales during the second quarter of 2022, the marque’s flagship SUV was still very much ahead of all rivals in the full-size luxury SUV segment.
The Jeep Grand Wagoneer remained in second place with 3,932 units, continuing to make waves in the segment since coming onto the scene during the third quarter of last year. The Lincoln Navigator (see running Lincoln Navigator sales) was a close third with an 11 percent decline to 3,902 units, putting it within just 30 units of second. The Infiniti QX80 placed a distant fourth with a 45 percent decline to 1,803 units. The Lexus LX took fifth in spite of a 31 percent bump in sales to 1,239 units, being the only entry besides the Grand Wagoneer to show a sales gain.

Below, we’ve included sales figures of full-size luxury crossovers for the sake of reference. Though they differ mechanically from the aforementioned body-on-frame SUVs by having a unibody construction, they are typically cross-shopped and considered as alternatives to the full-size luxury SUVs. Currently, the only full-size luxury crossovers are the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, the BMW X7 and Land Rover Range Rover, though Audi is rumored to be working on a future Q9 that would slot into this space.

The GM Authority Take
Cadillac Escalade sales performance in the second quarter of 2022 lost some of its luster for the first time in a year. We attribute the drop to production issues caused by but not limited to the much-publicized microchip shortage. In addition, the new Jeep Grand Wagoneer continues to make a dent, as does the Lincoln Navigator, albeit to a lesser extent.
The space in which the Escalade competes is a significant profit center for all participants, and the competition is not sitting still. For instance, Jeep recently added the Grand Wagoneer L to its stable to compete against the extended-length Escalade ESV.
For its part, Cadillac continues raising the bar, recently introducing the supercharged 2023 Cadillac Escalade-V. The luxury automaker’s new model sits at the intersection of opulence and ultra-high-performance, bringing a range-topping supercharged powerhouse to the luxury SUV. The model, which wears the crown as the most powerful Cadillac made to date, sounds beastly and made its grand debut on May 11th, 2022. Dealers started taking orders for the Escalade-V on May 19th and production of all 2023 Cadillac Escalade models began on July 18th.
The upcoming Escalade-V is powered by GM’s supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 engine used in the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, among other high-performance GM models like the Camaro ZL1, third-generation Cadillac CTS-V, and C7 Corvette Z06.
During a media presentation attended by GM Authority, Global Vice President of Cadillac Rory Harvey said he had the opportunity to drive the 2023 Cadillac Escalade-V “through various phases of its development,” an experience that he classifies as “absolutely stunning.”
Rivals may try to answer the Escalade with their own luxury offerings, but Cadillac’s industry-leading tech like the GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assist system and high-performance offerings like the Escalade-V will leave competitors in the dust, both on the road and in the sales charts.

You can’t buy what doesn’t exist. And whatever makes it to dealer lots are getting sacked with 15-20k over MSRP.
These things are nice. but not $140k nice. I suppose someone’s buying them though if dealers are getting them sold like this. Its a shame. I know people waiting 8 months++ for Escalades Yukon Denalis, and High Country Tahoes.
Sales volume I feel could be much better than these numbers suggest. If there was inventory, and dealers had enough to not take advantage of customers for the ones that they do get.
