Cadillac Celestiq: 5 Interesting Details You May Have Missed

Cadillac is stepping into the all-electric vehicle space with several new EV models, but the Cadillac Celestiq is the one to watch when it comes to the latest in Cadillac technology, luxury, customization, and design. Now, we’re taking a closer look at the Cadillac Celestiq by highlighting five things you may missed.

From the off, we have to mention that the vehicle covered in this particular list is the Cadillac Celestiq Show Car, as opposed to the Celestiq production car. As such, it’s possible that some (or many) things will change about the vehicle by the time it hits prime time. That said, the differences between the Cadillac Lyriq show car and Cadillac Lyriq production vehicle are relatively minimal, so you never know.

With all that out of the way, here are five interesting details you may have missed about the Cadillac Celestiq.

1. Frameless Door Windows

The latest batch of Cadillac Celestiq teaser images show off the rear seating area, where passengers will be able to bask in the lap of luxury with oodles of space and technology at their fingertips. Notably, the rear windows appear to be frameless – although, we should also mention that the rear window shown in the images wouldn’t even fit inside the rear door if it were to be completely rolled down.

2. Bare Cargo Area / Trunk

Another teaser image reveals the rear cargo space of the new Cadillac Celestiq, showing off a very clean and elegant design – but not trunk tie downs or any sort of management system. Again, it looks great, but the practical side of it is questionable if cargo can freely move around while the vehicle is in motion.

3. SPD Smartglass For the Rear Door Windows

As GM Authority exclusively covered previously, the Cadillac Celestiq will feature an SPD Smartglass roof, offering custom opacity for passengers and thus variable levels of ambient light. Notably, this tech seemingly extends to the rear door side windows as well, as indicated by the horizontal strips.

4. Illuminated Rear Cadillac Logo

The rear of the Cadillac Celestiq appears to feature an illuminated Caddy crest logo, punctuating the sculpted tail section. Furthermore, the illuminated badging continues with a glowing Celestiq on the right-hand side of the hatch.

5. No Rear Door Handles

Looking over the pictures, it appears as though the Cadillac Celestiq doesn’t have any rear door handles. Granted, a recessed door handle design is common on EVs these days to help reduce drag and create a cleaner look (the Cadillac Lyriq, for example, certainly comes to mind), but it appears as though the Celestiq doesn’t have any door handles whatsoever. Perhaps the sedan will use sensors to open the door automatically.

  2. Either the model is very tall, or this car isn’t. With the batteries under the floor, the seating position will be like a sports car.

  3. The Lyriq can open the rear hatch two ways. One is by touching the Cadillac logo on the hatch. Two is by kicking the foot below the rear bumper just over a projected logo light. Read the owner manual at the Cadillac support page for free to learn more.

The Celestiq will have the same operations.

  4. I’m sorry, I just don’t gat this car…I can’t help thinking that Cadillac should be focusing on cars it can actually sell.

    1. Probably because it’s not for you.

It’s not intended to “sell”, by which I assume you mean move big volume numbers. That’s the complete opposite mindset for a car like this. This car is designed to strengthen the brand. It’s intentionally a low-volume model.

The strength of the brand will help other models “sell”, but in general, Cadillac shouldn’t be chasing volume, rather higher transaction prices, which it can command if it’s brand and product are strengthened.

The Cadillac brand, if you haven’t noticed, has seen better days.

  5. Vapor, until we see the real thing.

Just wish they would give the US the 2nd generation CT6 being tested and developed here for the f-ing Chinese market. I know a lot of the people say the full-sized sedan market is dead, but if the full sized car is marketed and advertised there might be a resurgence. Not all buyers want a CUV/SUV or a compact car like the CT4 and CT5.

I own 2-CT6’s and love them. I guess when they are worn out, I’ll have to shop another brand, probably German.

    1. German next for me. I will not buy a chines CT6. I f I were to buy a Asian car it would probably be a Genesis..
