The 2023 Chevy Silverado HD is the final model year before the introduction of a fully refreshed vehicle for the 2024 model year. Now, GM Authority has learned the 2023 Chevy Silverado HD is no longer under constraint with regard to a park assist feature.
As GM Authority covered previously, the start of regular production for the 2023 Chevy Silverado HD was originally set to launch with a constraint in place for the Front and Rear Park Assist feature (RPO code UD5). Now, however, that constraint has been lifted.
The start of regular production for the 2023 Chevy Silverado HD got rolling as of Monday, July 18th.
The Front and Rear Park Assist feature for the 2023 Chevy Silverado HD is offered as an optional extra for the WT trim level in conjunction with the WT Safety Package, the latter of which is tagged with RPO code PQA. Meanwhile, LT and LTZ trims offer the feature as part of the Safety Package, the latter of which is tagged with RPO code PQB. The Front and Rear Park Assist feature is not available for the 2023 Chevy Silverado Custom, but is included as standard for the High Country trim level.
The light-duty 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 recently faced a similar scenario with a constraint for the Rear Park Assist feature (RPO code UD7), as well as the Front and Rear Park Assist feature. However, as GM Authority covered previously, these constraints have since been resolved.
As for the 2023 Chevy Silverado HD, the heavy duty pickup introduces just a handful of changes and updates compared to the preceding 2022 model year. Two engine options are offered, including the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, and the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. Order books for the 2023 Chevy Silverado HD opened May 5th, 2022, with production taking place at the GM Flint plant in Michigan, and starting in September at the GM Oshawa plant in Canada.

So when does the retrofit start happening for the 2022 HDs with the park assist chip that customers are waiting on? Seems to me, these should get fulfilled first. I’d really like to hear something about that.
I’m with you on that. I have been waiting for a resolution for the 2022 constraint. That should definitely come first before lifting the constraint from 2023.
There has been zero communication from GM on this matter in close to a year now. It’s going to a PR nightmare if they don’t start doing this soon. The acknowledgement forms they have customers sign at delivery include language barring the signee from bringing any class actions, but this is going to come down heavily on dealers if/when GM decides not do any retrofits until 2025. Just another brilliantly executed plan from Dear Leader Barra with absolutely no foresight involved.
The writer didn’t say how park assist works.
Also waiting for the Par assist retrofit. Will there also be a retrofit for the rear heated seats? The $200.00 credit was a joke!
Yeah me too, front and rear assist,….chip’s available for purchase and install? always been a chevy guy… starting to have second thoughts! , maybe made a bad purchase.
