2023 Chevrolet Colorado Grille Showcased In Latest Spy Shots

The third-generation 2023 Chevrolet Colorado is on the way, and GM Authority has already spied a few prototypes undergoing testing, giving us glimpses of what the midsize truck is hiding under the camouflage. Until now, that camouflage has been pretty heavy around the grille, but the latest spy shots show us our best look yet at the upcoming Chevy Colorado.

While this latest prototype still sports full camo, it’s a body-hugging wrap rather than the bulky vinyl, taking some of the mystery out of what’s underneath. Our photographers were able to get a good angle of the 2023 Colorado’s face, which appears to be a Z71 model, judging by the recovery hooks affixed to the front, more aggressive Goodyear Wrangler off-road tires, and higher ride height.

The grille is out in the open for the first time, showing off its black finish and boxy design elements. The polygonal nostrils on either side lead the eye to the center of the grille, which features a large cross bar that splits the grille into a dual-level setup in accordance with Chevy’s current design language. The Bow Tie insignia will be affixed to the center of this cross bar. There also appears to be a piece of tape over the grille, perhaps to conceal this particular tester’s trim level badge. Also note the forward-facing camera situated in the center of the grille.

The grille’s black finish is carried through the rest of the prototype’s body, matching up with the black wheels and the black daylight opening (DLO) surrounds, lending this 2023 Chevrolet Colorado ZL1 a sporty, sinister appearance. Interestingly, we notice that this Chevy Colorado prototype sports a set of incandescent headlight bulbs behind its camo, rather than a set of LED units.

The rear view of this Colorado Z71 or Trail Boss prototype doesn’t seem to have the CornerStep bumper visible, but the production model will have them included. GM Authority recently reported that the Colorado and its cousin, the 2023 GMC Canyon, will indeed feature the handy steps.

Under the hood, the upcoming 2023 Chevy Colorado will equip the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine as standard. Exact output numbers are unclear at this point, but it’s worth noting that the L3B is rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque in the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500.

  2. I’m liking the rear window rake a lot better than the outgoing Colorado/Canyon… the design language from what we can see seems promising.

    1. Yep, but the other is LED. There’s two trims here.

  5. Anyone know if GM will offer a sunroof in the new Canyon or Colorado? Nissan & Toyota have them in their mid-size trucks…

    1. Yes, sunroof will be an option. Additionally, they will have the global electrical architecture and many more upgrades over the existing models will be included/available

  6. Just take the wrapper off it please. Been looking at camo pics for a year now. You’d think this was the recipe for the atomic bomb back in 1945!

  7. I think the GMC is going to be the better looking of the two and I normally prefer the Chevy version of anything.

  8. doesn’t it look sort of Tacoma-ish?

    1. It has a truck bed, four tires and some doors.
I mean it’s impossible to tell. The current one does, and it’s one of the things I don’t really like about it.

    2. Yeah, there is some similarities with the spy photos of the new Tacoma. I see some Frontier in the profile too, but I think this will be a pretty unique vehicle. It definitely seems like a “near full size” truck sort of like the late 1990’s Dakota was.

    3. I’ve thought the same for a couple of reasons. One is the stance profile…the front end does not appear as low to the rear as the 2nd gen, which I like a lot. The Tacoma has a good stance like this. The other is the protrusion of the wheel well fenders which look good, but also remind me of the Tacoma ones.

  9. I currently have a 2015 long bed Chevy Colorado LT model and I have been waiting for next generation Colorado with the long bed, equipped like my 2015 ! If it is not offered with a long bed ,I will just keep my 2015 !

  10. Between this and the Cadillac Celestiq (stupid name BTW)….not sure which one I am more excited to see.

The second gen Colorado/Canyon sort of breathed new life in the mid sized segment. I am expecting this third gen model to be the market leader or close to it.

  11. Will be major disappointment if the long bed is not available. I like everything about my 2009 Canyon except the tiny bed. It’s at 214k miles, been a good one.

  12. I’ve been holding off on buying a new truck because I wanted to see what the new Colorado had to offer,But if the bed is going to be limited to 60 inches?? I will probably just order a Silverado now! Or change brands after being a loyal customer since 1995. Give people what they want. Work truck models I am sure needs at least the 74 inch bed.
