The 2022 GMC Terrain is the fifth model year of the latest second-generation nameplate, introducing a full model refresh. Now, the 2022 GMC Terrain has received another price increase.
Early last month, GM Authority reported on a separate price increase for the 2022 GMC Terrain, which included a flat $200 increase across the board. This previous price increase was applied to the crossover’s destination freight charge, which was raised to $1,395, up from the previous $1,195.
Now, the 2022 GMC Terrain has received another price increase, with an additional $250 added to the MSRP for all trim levels. What’s more, the 2022 GMC Terrain is now equipped as standard with a mandatory OnStar and Connected Services plan, a change applied to all new 2022 model-year Buick and GMC models, as GM Authority covered previously. Pricing for the mandatory OnStar and Connected Services is $1,500.
As such, these two factors combine to make the 2022 GMC Terrain $1,750 more expensive than it was last month. The end result is that the least-expensive 2022 GMC Terrain trim level is the SLE with front-wheel drive, priced at $31,045, plus destination freight charge. The most-expensive 2022 GMC Terrain model is the Denali with all-wheel drive, priced at $36,745, plus destination freight charge.
Check out the table below for a more complete picture of the 2022 GMC Terrain pricing:
Trim Level | Drivetrain | Powertrain | 2022 MSRP + DFC |
---|---|---|---|
SLE | FWD | Turbo 1.5L I4 LYX | $31,045 |
SLE | AWD | Turbo 1.5L I4 LYX | $32,645 |
SLT | FWD | Turbo 1.5L I4 LYX | $35,045 |
SLT | AWD | Turbo 1.5L I4 LYX | $36,645 |
AT4 | AWD | Turbo 1.5L I4 LYX | $37,145 |
Denali | AWD | Turbo 1.5L I4 LYX | $39,745 |
The 2022 GMC Terrain introduces a full model refresh, which was originally slated to arrive for the 2021 model year. However, due to complications arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, the model refresh was delayed to the 2022 model year instead. The refresh includes changes to the trim level lineup, new styling, revisions to the cabin space, and more.
Under the hood, the 2022 GMC Terrain features a single powertrain option, specifically the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX gasoline engine, rated at 170 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 203 pound-feet of torque at 2,000 rpm. Under the skin, the 2022 GMC Terrain rides on the GM D2 platform. Production takes place at the GM San Luis Potosà plant in Mexico.

Back in the 80’s and 90’s they added power window and door locks, and air conditioning, and added it into MSRP. We got used to that. Now here comes the technological area. We will get used to it too
Why gm even charges this mandatory on star at an xtra $1500 No body is going to want to pay that !!! Hello gm people have cell phones !!!
I completely agree. I was considering buying a GMC Acadia AT4, but with this massive price increase for the connectivity, I’m seriously considering the Chevy Blazer.
When GM added power windows, I had a window crank to raise and lower my windows. I used to reach across the bench seat and manually unlock the doors, I am so so happy they made these features standard. They added them to the MSRP, we just did not have reporters pointing them out to us. As technology moves forward, there will be other features added on, and yes it will increase the MSRP. Stop whining!!
When I leased my 2020 Sle Terrain dealer had on lot a lot of terrains with the larger display infotainment systems. I did not want nor need that as I have Apple cell phone and leased with smaller screen. Now they want to force one into their connected services. Good luck with that GM the average customer is smarter than that. You are pricing yourself out of future sales. In my lifetime this is only my 2nd GMC auto and my last as I’m buying this terrain at lease end in Dec. of this year.
Agree, mandatory onstar stupid. If you want us(customer) to pay for the cell link to allow for OTA’s, (cost I think is a few bucks a month) then add a “link” charge that covers OTA cost. But onstar is just not good for the vast majority since almost everyone has a cellphone these days.
This is great. My 22 purchased in January will soon be worth more on the used market. 🙂
Mandatory? No choice? Very disappointed 😞 The lease on my 2019 buick envision will be up in 2 months. I was looking forward on getting a new terrain, but with this mandatory on star thing, I just don’t know. I don’t have on star on my buick, and I certainly don’t want it on my future terrain. Don’t Need It.
Recession! Recession! Recession!
Let’s go Global Recession! Time for 2008 to return.
Totally agree then maybe gm will smarten up with these ridiculous charges !!! Then let the party begin !!!!
“then maybe gm will smarten up with these ridiculous charges”
If you want the return of 2008, then that would mean another bankruptcy. Maybe end another division or two.
I am somewhat lucky I missed the increase on the 2022 Terrains, I got my Terrain Denali in March and was missing the heated seat chip which ok I can wait till it’s available, it doesn’t stop me from enjoying my new vehicle. With 1488 km on the vehicle. But something went wrong with my electrical system went crazy so I stopped driving it and on the 26th of May had it towed to my dealer, on that date they told me the wiring harness was shot and had to be replaced (under warranty – and got a loaner ) now we are into day 47 and not a single wire harness can be located in the world. So if they can still build the 2022 Terrain they must have a wire harness and since my vehicle is 2022 why cant one be sourced from the Factory.
Yes they have wiring harness for new vehicles, but may not have extra for parts….yes its sucks. It not just them all makes are having this issue, its even in appliances too. Once spending and buying slows down enough that stock is stable, spare parts will be easier to come buy, until then a lot of things will be on back order.
Do they mean the 2023 terrain will get a full redesign? There is nothing new on the 22’s besides the addition of the AT4 trim.
I’ll be happy if they just add the heated seat module that was deleted on the 2022 we purchased 2 months ago!!
The forced on star thing is going to be a real sour area with all customers. Doubt anyone will be thrilled given the value proposition for the connected features is so low.
I enjoyed my recent gmc buying experience except for the repeated onstar calls trying to get me to buy up more or extended my trial periods.
No one wants the continued upsell hassle outside the dealership experience. One place is bad enough. If GM doesn’t change their business model not sure if I can continue with the brand
They shouldn’t force it but from experience, I have had Onstar for many years and fortunately, I haven’t used it a lot. But in 2018 my wife and I were in a serious accident, and Onstar had all the emergency equipment rolling and they arrived quickly at the scene, Onstar re-acted quickly without us pushing any buttons. We only had minor injuries but our vehicle was totaled I feel this service is worth it, remember if you are unconscious they will act quickly to assist you and they know exactly where you are.
That is sure a huge price increase on a rental grade 170 HP weakling of a crossover. There is literally nothing this crossover does all that well to justify that large of an increase. From the interior to the goofy shifter to the rather low mileage ratings and the weak sauce engine, this vehicle is hardly premium and should not be seeing this large of an increase for a previous model year!
