SAIC-GM has just announced the launch of a new six-seat variant of the 2022 Buick Enclave in China, introducing a new configuration for the midsize crossover’s third model year in the Asian country.
This is the first time the regular Chinese-market Buick Enclave has been offered in a six-seat configuration since the model’s local introduction in late 2019, when it was launched with seven seats. The top two variants of the crossover now feature a three-row cabin with a 2+2+2 seating layout, with separate second-row captain’s seats offering a more exclusive first-class experience. In addition, the six-passenger seating configuration is only offered in conjunction with the Enclave’s all-wheel drivetrain.
In addition to including high-end materials and a new dark color scheme, the second-row first-class seats in the 2022 Buick Enclave Avenir feature six-way adjustable aviation headrests that provide a wider head contact area and allow you to actively improve both fit and ergonomics. The seats also include heating, ventilation, massage and electric lumbar support functions.
Mechanically, the new 2022 Buick Enclave variants maintain the same powertrain as the rest of the lineup, consisting of the turbocharged 2.0L LSY I4 engine that develops 233 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, mated to the GM nine-speed automatic transmission. The Chinese-market 2022 Enclave also offers a 48V mild hybrid system that helps improve fuel consumption.
The six-seat 2022 Buick Enclave is now available for sale across the Tri-Shield brand’s dealer network in China, where the crossover’s lineup has been upgraded from seven to five distinctive variants. They all come with extensive technological and safety equipment as standard, adapted to families’ preferences in that country. Here are the prices of the five 2022 Enclave variants in China:
- 2022 Enclave Luxury: 299,900 CNY (about $44,440 USD at the current exchange rate)
- 2022 Enclave Pioneer Luxury: 314,900 CNY ($46,660 USD)
- 2022 Enclave Prestige: 335,900 CNY ($49,770 USD)
- 2022 Enclave Flagship: 339,900 CNY ($50,370 USD)

I read that this is the Chinese Buick Enclave, but it still looks to my eyes like the Buick Envision GX. When is the Envision GX coming to the US? Will it have Buick’s new logo and new styling direction? Will it be the last of the ICE-powered Buicks?
Another question: will it be the Enclave replacement? May as well make the entire line Chinese.
Chinese Enclave has same design cues as Envision and is a far stronger, less bulbous design. China seems to get more competitive, upmarket designs.
Thus may be ending with new design language and Envista that looks like a 2006 Saturn or Opel aimed at VW customers.
Chinese design can be either stately or garish but rarely bland. Good luck Buick!
They are basically the low and high H-line variets of the same design. Difficult to tell apart but both have a stately posture superior to any design Lexus has on offer.
GM is expert at snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory. As someone who likes understated but upmarket design both Envision and Enclave Jr are attractive options as is GEM Encore.
Why would anyone in NA care what GM is offering in China?
Thank you very much
