We’re Driving The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq – What Do You Want To Know?

GM Authority executive editor Alex Luft will have the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq this week, giving us the opportunity to answer any questions you have about the upcoming battery-electric luxury crossover.
The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq Debut Edition, which sold out in minutes after GM began accepting pre-orders last year, began rolling off the line at GM’s Spring Hill plant in Tennessee in late March. This model has a single Ultium Drive electric motor powering the rear wheels, which is rated at 340 horsepower and 324 pound-feet of torque, along with a 12-module, 100.4 kWh Ultium battery pack providing an EPA-estimated 312 miles of driving range on a full charge. This is the same powertrain that will be found in the series production Luxury RWD trim level, which will enter production later this year. GM will also offer a Lyriq Luxury AWD trim for the 2023MY, which will feature a dual-motor powertrain rated at over 500 pound-feet of torque.
Pre-orders for the 2023 model year Cadillac Lyriq are now full, as we reported previously, although customers can still put their name on the waiting list to receive a 2024 model year vehicle. Customers on the waiting list may be contacted to purchase a 2023MY vehicle if some reservation holders decide not to go ahead with the purchase of the vehicle.
While this week will allow us to sample the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq for the first time, the driving impressions are under a media embargo until June 28th, so it will be about a week or so until we can answer most of the questions readers may have. We’ll still be one of the first publications to drive the vehicle, though, so leave your questions in the comments below and we’ll be sure to answer them as soon as we can!

My questions for Cadillac: When will Debut Edition LYRIQ buyers receive their scheduled production weeks info? Will the two storage drawers previously shown below the center dashboard be included on shipping Debut Edition LYRIQs?
I doubt we get them until after August they said summer they Are going to wait until the very end of summer but i was trying to do a road trip before that. I guess I’ll have to wait until spring break.
How does Lyriq compare to last gen such as XT5?
Agreed. I’m a Debut edition reservation holder also and am very frustrated with the total lack of communication around production and delivery dates. My dealer knows nothing, Cadillac chat knows nothing. Public statements by GM executives said first half of 2022 or “in a few months” back in January; does a few months = 9 months later aka end of summer?
So many things to ask- I go with 2:
1) Can you see what the actual Kwh / mile is @ 70 MPH, or 75 MPH?
2) What are audio offerings? AM, FM, XM, Tune-in, Spotify, Android Auto, Apple Car Play? Other?
Thanks!
I would like to know why they were being built since March and nobody received a car or a target production week, and why is it taking so long.
Quality checks and so when they do deliver it’s more than a handful of vehicles.
Will the surround vision cameras have recording capabilities? Please show off more of the screen/infotainment system such as the boot up sequence, what it looks like when you get in but before you start the car, menus, options, etc. Thank you!
I agree, will the Lyriq be able to record like Tesla’s “Sentry” mode? Seems those cameras are great at catching vandals!
Great Question. I’d like to know that too. My guess is that the 70 MPH efficiency of the Lyriq will be lower than others due to its heavy weight and rather boxy shaped front. The Combined EPA will be around 3.12kW per mile based on a 100kW battery and reported 312-mile EPA range. Now at 70 MPH I reduce that by 25% so expect a range of around 234 miles at 70 MPH or about 2.3 kW per mile in the real world based on my own experience driving the Bolt EV and the Kia EV6 which go down by 22% at 70 MPH. I added 3% extra for the Lyriq due to the weight and rather boxy shaped front (looks like the drag coefficient is higher).
I think you meant 3.12 miles per kwh, not 3.12 kwh per mile.
How quiet is the ride (road noise, vibration, etc.)?
I ordered Debut Editon. When we actually start receiving cars. How does it compare to the BMW?
The first cars could be showing up tail end of June beginning of July.
What year?
2021!
Is that your guess or do you have a source for that info?
Just a guess at this point. I know that they are working on it, but I haven’t check on it lately. Maybe it is time.
Ha Ha…… Gm has made non realistic delivery dates thus far !
I am starting to lose interest in the Lyriq. The lack of communications is a downer. I see that New Yorkers have received some cars. I guess down here in Texas we will be last.
I am thinking about changing to BMW i4. Not sure how long we are expected to wait. 1 year seems a little abusive to me. If i wait much longer I’ll be able to replace my Ram with a Ram EV.
Impatient,
Rick
I ordered an AWD. Why can’t I get the 22” wheels?
Also the 2023 BMW X5 will have a wide screen and get more HP out of their 6 Cyl than the current 330.
Does the AC work well? Kids are roasting in the back of my model S
Cadillac has a sun shade.
Why no Frunk is possible.
I’m curious about the lack of frunk, especially since the hood looks very long. Can we see photos underneath the hood please?
The owners manual pictures show a big plastic cover under the hood, with little doors to open to access only certain areas.
I would think that under the plastic would look a lot like a Bolt, with the motor, AC system, battery charger, DC to DC converter, and all the related cooling systems.
Not all versions have a front drive motor.
The Lyriq is built on the Ultium platform, so I wouldn’t expect it to look like a bolt under the hood. Then again, Ultium may just dictate the battery layout, so controllers might be under the hood. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Some luxury EV’s are starting to have hoods that don’t open.
How is the driving range affected by:
1. Running AC in the summer?
2. Running heater in the winter?
3. Increasing the gross weight by adding passengers (500 lbs); adding 200 lbs of cargo?
Plenty of YOUTUBE video showing no frunk
How is the front leg room for the driver?
How does the back seat feel, from a headroom, leg room and width. Is it something someone 6’4” or max 5’10” could sit in with someone similar height in front? How practical is it for a family with growing kids?
Does it have Home Link with GPS
How is the ride quality/steering feel – floaty? firm? sporty?
Can the HUD and rear AC controller be installed with after market compatible parts, or OEM parts at a later time?
I’m short 5’2” and used to driving a 2017 crv. How much lower will I sit in the Lyriq?
How rough are the 22” tires which we ordered.
Nice! I had 22s on my new Ram. That resulted in the first flat I’ve had in 50 years. Ripped the 22s off asap and put 20. Much better.
Would love to know if the native navigation integrates charging stops adapting to the car’s range.
does it drive like a Tesla or more like a VW i 4?
Off the mark smooth jor jrky?
is the material for the seat comfortable?
How is the acceleration? Hopefully not slow to move initially.
Why doesn’t the AWD version offer the camera based rear view mirror but, the 2wd version does?
Here is my q’s
1. Reasons for GM to omit HUD in Debut edition?
2. Super cruise enabling timeline
3. Expected battery life
4. OTA update plans/frequency
5. Production target for 2023
Lots of great questions from other members and I look forward to all of the answers.
That said, I’m all in on the Lyriq, have a local deposit, and it’ll be my first EV.
I’m all in too. Have a deposit on an AWD unit.
How good is the quality of construction and interior finishes?
Please check to see if the car is putting out dangerous levels of electrical and RF energy. You will need a special meter to read radiation.
GM vehicles are made with plenty of RF shielding. Your cell phone puts out more than the Lyriq does .
What options will not be operational on the debut edition, but will become optional with over the air updates? Trying to figure out if their will be any actual differences between the debut edition and the normal 2023 RWD Lyriq.
