For the next few days, GM Authority will be driving this 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate, the new range-topper in the GMC Sierra 1500 lineup introduced with the recent 2022-mode-year refresh.
Production of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 takes place at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, as well as the GM Silao plant in Mexico. This particular 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate, produced at the Fort Wayne facility, draws motivation from the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, which is rated 420 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm, but the range-topper can also be had with the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 277 horsepower at 3,750 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque. Both powerplants mate to the GM 10-speed automatic transmission, with four-wheel drive equipped as standard.
Naturally, as the range-topper of the lineup, the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate is loaded to the gills with standard equipment, and as such, doesn’t offer much by way of optional upgrades. Highlight standard equipment includes a Carbon Fiber Composite Bed (RPO code E3Z), the GMC MultiPro Tailgate (RPO code QK2) with the MultiPro Audio System by Kicker (RPO code PDV), and the rearward articulating GMC MultiPro Power Steps (RPO code BRS).
The exterior is covered in Titanium Rush Metallic paint, a premium option that costs an additional $495. This handsome exterior color is complemented by a host of unique exterior trim bits, including the standard GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate signature Denali Vader chrome grille treatment and Vader Chrome GMC badging. In the corners are the standard 22-inch low-gloss black aluminum wheels with machined accents, an exclusive wheel specific to the range-topping trim.
Pricing for this 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate is listed at $84,190, including destination freight charge and before options. However, as GM Authority covered previously, reservations for the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate are currently full.
So, we have to ask – is there anything that you want to know about the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate? Post your questions in the comments section, and we’ll reply as soon as possible.

Tell me more about the Titanium Rush metallic. Is it a black metallic or a dark gray? Also, if a dark gray, any color pigment added that shows up?
I wanted to see this color in person before ordering and a lower trim model arrived at a local dealer so I saw it before it went out the door. The photos in the article are accurate — it looks almost black most of the time but in the right light it looks purple. Purple like a grape popsicle with heavy metallic paint. Not a dark eggplant purple that some cars offer – it’s a bright purple in the right light. It’s not bad but it’s really purple in the right light. There is a video of the Denali Ultimate at the Chicago Auto Show that features this paint color and it shows the purple better than the article.
So did you go with that color or skip it? Hopefully I like it though I’m a bit concerned.
Sure wish they had stuck with Satin Steel.
I didn’t care for it enough to drop $70K plus. I didn’t know what to expect from “Titanium” but was hoping it might be a different gray/black/steel or gunmetal but did not expect purple. I’ve waited to buy primarily because of color. I’ve had two Denali Yukon XLs that were shades of metal and were fine. I’ve had two pickups that were ruby and white. I like the white but I would like to have something different. I’ll keep the next one longer so I’d like something that will wear well and not become tiresome to me. Still haven’t ordered and now it seems my choice will be a 2023 – with different but not better colors.
How is the quietness and the Bose performance stereo?
Interested in this, as well as the review of the “baseball glove” colored interior.
Really liked the “umber” in the K2 series. The T1x series interior colors leave a lot to be desired.
$85,000 for a half ton pick up. Only those with a fragile ego will buy this. No thanks.
Fragile ego definition – being interested in how other people spend their money.
Does it have super cruise and how do you find it works?
When will these trucks be available to order a 2023 and also be in South Western Ontario Canada I tried for a 2022 be to no avail
How many Ultimates are being built for 2022 model year? I currently have one, paid 10k over MSRP, love the super cruise and 22MPG highway fuel economy with the 6.2 gas engine. I’ve put over 4K miles on it the first month traveling the east coast. The truck really handles well and feels more like a car then a truck. Love it!
Tell us will the texting have a voice and be able to listen to incoming text AND a text to voice response to answer and send incoming / outgoing text? Will it be able to have all makes of phones have full wireless capabilities? Including Google maps AND Waze. Will it also allow Alexa to really work like it should? Will it also allow the trailer TPS to work on gooseneck / 5th’er trailer up to 50 feet. Will it also get the full surround visual camera for up to a 50 foot gooseneck / 5th’er. Will all these new super Denali… do the above AND will it be carried over to the 3500 diesel Denali’s. I ask as because the Denali IS suppose to be the Cadillac of pickup trucks and I would look to move over to a ’24 model. Hope all the chip shortage is over.
When will production start for 2023 GMC Denali 1500 series? and how long is delivery for Southern Ontario?
I would like to see a road test in regards to comfort of both the seats and overall suspension. In addition, I’d like to a similar road test comparison between the Ultimate and AT4X. I’m very disapponted that the Max Trailering Package isn’t offered on the Ultimate. In addition, I’m not a fan of the Fiber Pro bed due to not being able to install a one piece fiberglass tonneau cover due to the rolled inner sides. Other types of tonneau covers such as vinyl, rolled, foldable, retractable ultimately fail due to snow, ice & salt and are usually not as watertight. I’d like to add one more dislike, the lack of light exterior colors for the upcoming 2023 model. Silver Ice Metallic, QuickSilver Metallic and Summit White. All three of these colors would have given awesome contrast with the Vader Trim. I do love everything about the interior! Thanks
I am assuming this would be a “No” from you???
Not sure what you mean?
I assume you are not going to buy…
At this point due to what I mentioned, No. Main reason; The Ultimate will have a 13,200 pound towing capacity with it’s 3.0L LX0 Diesel Duramax which is great but, without a suspension to support it.
What do you know about the suspension? That towing capacity is achievable with the Max Towing Package.
Max towing package is not available on the 2023 1500 Ultimate according to gmfleetorderguide.com
Max Towing Package not available for the 1500 Sierra Denali Ultimate.
It was not available for 2022s Ultimate. Are you saying MT not available for 2023s also? My patience would come to an end.
Yes, as of right now according to GM Fleet Order Guide web site it’s not an option on the 2023 1500 Ultimate which I.M.O., is totally ridiculous. It’s not available on other 1500 models as well. The site shows Max Trailering Package (NHT) available for the SLE, Elevation and SLT. Very upsetting to say the least. I would move on to the 2023 AT4X due to it’s suspension but, it’s currently only offered with a 6.2L. Here’s the kicker, the 3.0L LZ0 Diesel Duramax is Standard on the AT4 with a 6.2L as an option. I.M.O., with the AT4X leaning towards the luxuary side, it should have had these offerings as well. Hopefully, all of this will change before startup, I really want that 3.0L Diesel. If not, I’ll just keep driving my 2018 GMC Sierra Denali 2500HD 6.6l Duramax.
I gave my 2016 1500 to a nephew in January thinking I could get a 2022 but still have not ordered one due to uncertainty with the ordering/supply system and partly due to economy. I really want the Denali but also want the Max Trailering (not gonna happen). I am personally leaning toward the 6.2 L so that’s not so much of an issue for me but I’d like to stay under $80,000 – but wanting the Max Trailering rules out Denali and AT4; keeping it under $80,000 rules out AT4X and Denali Ultimate regardless of Max Trailering.
Funny that the commercials for the Ultimate show them towing a decent sized travel trailer. I’d rather have a better suspension than comes with the Ultimate for towing even the trailer in the commercial. Plus, I don’t really want to have to clap my hands while I’m driving.
I’ve been wrestling with this also. I’d like a 1/2 Ton Denali. I’d also like the max trailering package. Seems the max trailering package is not available on Denali, AT4 or Ultimate trim packages. Seems to make the Denali and Ultimate luxury pickups with only light towing duties and the AT4 a luxury pickup with some off-road capabilities but also light towing. I don’t really want a 3/4 Ton but would much prefer it for the towing. A high-optioned SLT with max trailering is available but sort of like kissing your sister if you really want a Denali or Ultimate. Anyone have experience towing an 8,000 trailer without the max trailering package?
I totally agree….. With that being said, I would sincerely take a look at the upcoming 2023 AT4X but, it’s currently only going to be offered with a 6.2L. I want to stick with a Duramax…..

When will the 2023 order book open for the Sierra Ultimate trim line?
Guarantied they will not be available.
Just another way to keep people excited over a truck that will probably be over $100’000 Canadian.
Since there are no more 2022s available – let’s move to the 2023s. Will more ultimates be produced? Has GMC figured out their supply chain yet – or will they continue to short options? I would like a review of all 2022 w/a (when available) options and determine whether these options will be available in the 2023.
Why does it have such hideous wheels?
When will production for the 2023 Denali Ultimate begins? Will there be any new colors added for the 2023 Models?
The hard seat bottoms in the past have been very uncomfortable. Are the new seats better? Also like to know when supercruise is back and available to order. Hoping they add it back to the 2023 model year.
Will it have the panoramic roof
