The 2024 GMC Sierra HD will introduce a full model refresh for the heavy-duty pickup nameplate, ushering in a long list of changes and updates for the exterior, interior, trim level lineup, as well as the powertrain. Now, we’re presenting an interesting detail on the revised exterior of the 2024 GMC Sierra HD, specifically, the turn signals, as seen in the following GM Authority video.
In the video, hosted by GM Authority Executive Editor, Alex Luft, we see a 2024 GMC Sierra HD prototype – specifically a Sierra 3500 HD Dual Rear Wheel (dually) – covered in a healthy amount of camouflage. Although the front-end is draped in several sheets of black vinyl to obscure the revised styling underneath, there are still a few small slits in the covers that allow the lighting underneath to peek through.
As we see in the video, this 2024 GMC Sierra HD prototype is signaling to turn right. The upper lighting signature flashes orange in a center-to-side swiping motion, indicating that the vehicle will turn right, while the lighting signature on the opposite side of the fascia glows a steady white. Slowing the video down, we see the new turn signal animation quite clearly. Both lights in question are LEDs.
This new “wiping” or “swiping” animation effect for the Sierra HD stands in contrast to the turn signal indicators on the fully refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500, the latter of which blink the entirety of the LED lighting signature, as recently detailed by GM Authority. As such, this small lighting detail will provide even more design separation between the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD and refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500.
In addition to a brand-new exterior design, the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD will also boast an overhauled cockpit, which will incorporate a 13.4-inch infotainment screen mounted above a horizontal hard-button arrangement. A new instrument panel (gauge cluster) will also be present and accounted for. And we would be remiss not to mention the upcoming Sierra HD AT4X model, as GM Authority was the first to report in March.
Under the hood, the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD will be equipped with the newer GM 10-speed automatic transmission when fitted with the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine. Meanwhile, the 6.6L V8 L5D turbodiesel Duramax will get a substantial increase in output, up to around 1,100 pound-feet of torque and more than 500 horsepower.

A lot of car companies are doing this. Audi has been doing this for a while. I have seen this on the new Buick Envision Avenir, the new Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and just the other day, I saw this on a Mustang Mach-E. I am not sure if I am a fan or not. LED’s can do some pretty cool things, but some car lighting elements are bordering on distracting rather than just making the car more visible.
Just as long as long as the brake lights don’t flicker and pulsate – being behind a car that has brake lights that do that in stop and go driving will just about put one into an epileptic seizure.
The video carefully avoided showing the rear turn signals, which realistically should be in orange colour, and some distance away from the brake lights. Red brake lights doubling as turn signals are often confusing in multi-lane traffic by not showing clear intentions of the driver: slowing down or changing lanes.

Yours also has wheels… tires and a steering wheel… right?

Will they come with the famous brake squealing?
