We all love our project cars, but truth be told, they can be a real headache sometimes. When everything works as intended, it’s a dream, but if something really goes sideways, that dream can turn into a nightmare, as was the case for the LS-swapped 1969 Chevy Camaro featured in the following brief video.
The video comes to us from the folks at Holley, who caught up with car owner John Goodby at Holley LS Fest West to check out his 1969 Chevy Camaro build. Originally from Fulton, California, Goodby got his start in the automotive world via off-road racing. However, after playing in the dirt non-stop, Goodby decided it was time to build a street car and get back on the black stuff.
To that end, Goodby bought his 1969 Chevy Camaro roughly eight years ago and went through it piece by piece. Originally equipped with a 350 V8 and four-speed transmission, the Camaro now cradles an LS7 V8, which mates up to a Tremec six-speed transmission and Currie 9-inch rear end. The LS7 runs a Holley HP ECU for engine management, and is topped with an MSD Atomic intake manifold.
The Chevy Camaro rocks a full black-out theme inside and out, sitting low thanks to Ridetech air ride suspension and hugging a set of one-off billet wheels from Raceline. Inside, there’s a set of Autometer gauges, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and a black shift knob and boot.
Looking at how clean the final product is, you wouldn’t necessarily assume the builders had any real issues in putting this thing together. However, according to the owner, the car actually had an engine bay fire shortly after getting the powertrain installed, lending the car its nightmarish nickname.
Now, though, after cleaning it all up and reassembling what was left, this 1969 Chevy Camaro is back to tearing up the blacktop. Check out the full video right here:
