Two months after the Chinese joint venture between General Motors, SAIC Motor Corp, and Guangxi Automobile Group began production of the all-new MPV, SAIC-GM-Wuling officially launched the 2023 Wuling Jia Chen in the Chinese market.
The 2023 Wuling Jia Chen MPV was presented during a special event on June 15th, and sales have begun according to the schedule announced at its official launch in the second quarter of the year. The Jia Chen is the third next-generation product in Wuling‘s global strategy, following the Victory MPV and the all-new Xing Chen crossover.
As GM Authority reported during the vehicle’s official reveal in March, the 2023 Wuling Jia Chen is a compact-sized multipurpose van with seating for up to seven passengers, aiming to meet the needs of a wide range of customers. The vehicle’s approach is actually reflected in its name, whose translation from Mandarin would be equivalent to “Good morning,” an appropriate greeting for everyone.
With a design inspired by the one that debuted on the Xing Chen, the 2023 Wuling Jia Chen adopts its interpretation of the latest “wing dynamic aesthetics” design language and shares some elements with the Wuling’s first crossover, such as the frontal area with the V-shaped grille and the headlights, while the dashboard is almost identical to the Xing Chen’s.
The 2023 Wuling Jia Chen is equipped with one of two 1.5L engines. The base unit is naturally aspirated, developing 98 horsepower and 105 pound-feet of torque, matched to a six-speed manual transmission. The second one is a turbocharged mill that generates 145 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission.
The cabin includes a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with SGMW’s latest Ling OS, while a complete suite of safety features is offered as well. The 2023 Wuling Jia Chen is already on sale in the Chinese brand’s dealer network in five trims, with the following suggested prices:
- 2023 Jia Chen Enjoy 1.5L: 68,800 Yuan (about $10,250 at the current exchange rate)
- 2023 Jia Chen Comfort 1.5L: 76,800 Yuan ($11,450)
- 2023 Jia Chen Comfort 1.5T: 81,800 Yuan ($12,190)
- 2023 Jia Chen Deluxe 1.5T: 91,800 Yuan ($13,680)
- 2023 Jia Chen Premium 1.5T: 99,800 Yuan ($14,880)

We have a winner in the ugliest vehicle contest.
… well… it is ok… today is very rare a good product coming from a factory. So, … I know… it has its Design Errors, but if is selling for € 5,000 new, then it is acceptable, of course automatic and E10 Ethanol Motor. But think all BMWs and Rolls Royces from Goodwood in 2022 wins this ugly contest. Some GM like Corvette, Hummer, Camaro are good Candidates too. As said, nothing is full Happiness recently.
GM continues to stun in the design department!
GM used to be such a design leader with very prominent design bosses that were well known in the auto enthusiast community and are still legends. Now I bet nobody could even name their current VP of Design.
… wrong > Michael Simcoe
MK,
I didn’t really mean you, or those of us here. Of course we know but Simcoe has no where near the fame of Harley Earl or Bill Mitchell or even Ed Wellburn. He’s just a very low-profile guy who’s work is not very high-profile either. GM is just another bland Asian carmaker now with no significant designs and certainly no design leadership. Outside of the GM enthusiast world, I doubt his name is even known.
since a while it is so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
guy if in all my huge tries to be an exterior designer … had some years 10 % of fame those guys … well could have been bought a House, we never could, and having a family, some really money safe , travels more, cars at garage, my 1950 RR Silver Wraith for ride sunny days at ocean promenade beach, going to pebble beach many times concurs of fame, elegance parties etc. the hard life would be different, salaries some millions a year omg, but God did not chose us professionally in that direction …
I understand gma is just a mouthpiece for gm but no one in the U. S. cares about the latest Wang Chung 496.3. That design is so God awful I’d rather listen to the real Wang Chung than subject my eyes to that mess.
Future BUICK Centurian?
Gee, I wonder if gm will offer the new 2023 Corvette Dark Stealth Crossed Flags emblems as a Wuling dealer installed option for $1.25? It will really improve the look of these things.
