GMC Hummer EV Extract Mode Will Be Available July 1st

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1 comes standard with something called Extract Mode, which raises the height of the truck’s air suspension by about six inches for improved off-road capability. This feature was not active in Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1 models from launch, however GM announced this week that owners will be able to take advantage of Extract Mode as of July 1st.

To have Extract Mode activated in the GMC Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1, owners will have to take their vehicle into a GM dealership to have the vehicle’s operating software updated and to have ride height sensors installed. Owners can use the GMC Concierge Service to book an appointment to have this complimentary service work performed as of July 1st, which is when dealers will have the required parts in stock.

GM released a video this week showing a GMC Hummer EV Pickup traversing a steep, rocky grade with Extract Mode activated. The main purpose of the feature is to give the Hummer EV more ground clearance, allowing it to crawl over rocks and other obstacles without hitting its underbody skid plates or key electronic components.

The GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 comes standard with GM’s Air Ride Adaptive suspension system and Extract Mode, however these features will be optional on lesser Hummer EV trim levels. The well-equipped Edition 1 also comes standard with the Enhanced Off Road Package, a $2,600 option on other models that adds the following equipment (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):

  • 18-inch by 9-inch Black Aluminum Spare Wheel with machine Accents (SGX)
  • Spare Mud Terrain Tire LT305/70R18 e 126/123 R BW OOR (SC9)
  • Bed-Mounted Vertical Spare Tire Carrier (SEP)
  • Spare Tire Jack and Tool Kit (5Y2)
  • Off-Road Recover Kit (S1H)

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1 began rolling off the assembly line at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan late last year. The 2022 GMC Hummer EV3X model, which will be the next trim level to arrive, will enter production this fall.

  1. Incorrect the Enhanced Off Road Package is not standard. You have to order it along with the vehicle if you want the Spare Tire.

  3. News flash! The Supreme Court clipped the EPA’s wings today by severely limiting their power to enact carbon climate controls. I told you the conservatives would start rolling back the current craziness I just thought it wouldn’t start until November. Hopefully Mary B can retrieve some of GM’s eggs, all of which she placed in the EV basket!
