GM Should Offer Cadillac Blackwing Carbon Fiber Mirror Caps

As the most track-capable production vehicles to ever wear the Caddy crest, the two Cadillac Blackwing sedans, including the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, declare their go-fast intentions with a host of upgraded aesthetic bits and aero enhancements. Despite this, neither of the Cadillac Blackwing sedans offer carbon fiber mirror caps. The question is – should they?

For those who may be unaware, the two Cadillac Blackwing sedans both offer several Carbon Fiber packages that upgrade the exterior styling with oodles of tasty composite components. Just a few of the highlights of these packages include a carbon fiber front splitter, carbon fiber front dive planes, a carbon fiber extra aero spoiler, and a carbon fiber rear valence diffuser, among others.

Unfortunately, none of the packages on offer include carbon fiber mirror caps. This is particularly noteworthy when comparing the two Cadillac Blackwing sedans to similar vehicles from Cadillac’s European rivals. For example, the Audi RS5 offers carbon fiber mirror caps with the $5,500 Black optic carbon package, the Mercedes-AMG E53 offers carbon fiber mirror caps with the $1,750 AMG Exterior Carbon Fiber Package, and the BMW M3 Sedan offers carbon fiber mirror caps with the $4,700 M Carbon Exterior Package.

So then, why not the Cadillac Blackwing sedans? The Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing are both optional with a long list of carbon fiber extras, and yet, composite mirror caps are still somehow missing.

As a reminder, the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing is powered by the twin-turbocharged 3.6L V6 LF4 gasoline engine, rated at 472 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque, while the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is powered by the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 V8 gasoline engine, rated at 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque. Both Cadillac Blackwing sedans ride on the GM Alpha 2 platform, and both are produced at the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan.

  1. They should be providing a more aggressive hood. Carbon mirror caps for a halo car just adds to the lack of creativity with the outside of the car already and cheapins it

  2. I love the blue example here. As for caps well whatever . Not for me really

  3. How about just producing vehicles with all the computer chips… Who really gives a sh!t about carbon fiber mirror caps when the dealer lots are empty?

    1. That would be possible only if GM would use potatoes chips. Poor Mary Barra thinks that chips come from supermarkets in small bags.

      1. Mary is an engineer and I bet knows a lot more about chips for car than you given her role!

  4. Carbon fiber mirror caps? Meh. But if you like them they’re available aftermarket as the 5BW uses the exact same mirror as the V3.

    1. Such a disappointment. You know that right.

  5. So ridiculous. Not in keeping with the serious nature of the car. Carbon fiber is for fashionista douchebags.

  6. What made me scratch my head about this article (No offense GM Authority) is that you’re asking about MORE Carbon Fiber when we can’t get the packages they already offer! If you look at either the GM Online Order / Reference Guide OR the Cadillac website, when looking at either Carbon Fiber Package, you get the exact same footnote: “Limited, Late or No Availability” In fact, the shortage is SO bad that I’ve spoken to 3 different dealerships scattered across the country, and they all say the same thing: “If you insist on ordering a 2023 Blackwing with one or both Carbon Fiber packages, YOU WILL NOT GET a 2023 Blackwing”

    1. No offense but these articles are kind of comical when you can’t even get a car let alone some package that makes no difference to me. I am going to put an order in for a 4 V Blackwing with nothing fancy on it and see if I will ever get it.

      1. I hear you. (none taken) Through my research, I know it has a lot to do with dealer allocation. I’m #5 at my home dealer in the Pacific Northwest for a 5 B/W, but throughout the entire Blackwing production run so far, my home dealer has received and delivered ZERO B/W’s. I’m now in the process of cancelling my order and moving to a dealer in the Midwest. This other dealer currently has TEN B/W’s on the truck headed their way. (Six 5V’s & Four 4V’s, all spoken for of course) I finally resigned myself to the fact that if I really want one, I’m gonna have to get on a plane and go get it.

But speaking allocation, if I wanted an ESCALADE from my home Dealer? “Six to eight weeks, no sweat.”

        1. Well I’m sure you are correct. the CT4-V Blackwing is a total joke trying to get one on the west coast. Midwest it is.

      2. You stand a better chance by going online GMC and entering your specs and your postal code or ZIP code and see what is around or on order. Dealers will promise you the moon and you will sit and collect dust waiting… I shopped online to find my vehicle in a discontinued color (Satin Steel Metallic), spec’d out exactly as I wanted it and it took me a week & a half from the start of the search to the vehicle parked in my driveway.
