2023 GMC Sierra 1500 To Lose These Two Paint Colors

The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 will no longer be offered with two exterior paint colors that were offered on the pickup for the 2022 model year, GM Authority has learned.

For 2023, the following two colors will be dropped from the GMC Sierra’s order books (relevant paint codes listed in parentheses):

  • Cayenne Red Tintcoat (GSK)
  • Silver Ice Metallic (GAN)

The Silver Ice Metallic was a premium exterior color, adding $425 to the truck’s price tag, and was available on all trim Sierra trim levels. Meanwhile, the Cayenne Red exterior color added an extra $645 to the truck’s price tag and was available on the Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4 and Denali trim levels only. That means it was not offered on the Pro, SLE and Denali Ultimate trim levels.

As we reported in May, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is currently unavailable to order in Cayenne Red and will likely not return to the truck before production of the 2022 model year ends. That means the timeframe to get a GMC Sierra 1500 in Cayenne Red has come and gone, but thankfully GM has three new exterior colors coming to the Sierra for 2023. These will include the following:

  • Deep Bronze Metallic (GXN)
  • Sterling Metallic (GXD)
  • Volcanic Red Tintcoat (GNT)

Photos of the 2023 GMC Sierra in these three new exterior colors are not available at this time.

The refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered with a total of four powertrains. This includes the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 rides on the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Silao plant in Mexico and GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana.

  1. I just told by my dealer here in Texas that GMC is not making any more 2022 trucks with the 6.2 engine. If I still wanted a Denali Ultimate with a 6.2 it would be a 2023 model. Had it on order since October of 21.

    1. Interesting. I have an AT4 with the 6.2 on order that is scheduled for production next week. Curious if that’ll change.

The Denali Ultimate could be the reason yours will be delayed until 2023. Specifically Super Cruise. Good luck with yours.

      1. Anything already scheduled for production should not be affected. I saw the actual announcement from GM. Only unallocated vehicles are affected.

Charlie, it is odd that yours hasn’t been allocated. Mind you reservations began then, but actual orders didn’t start until early this year. Still, at our store we’ve had Denali Ultimates, fully loaded, not ordered until into March that have been allocated and scheduled for production. My only guess is that you’re working with a very small town dealership that doesn’t get much allocation??

        1. Thanks for the update Jon. Will see if production actually completed next week and hopefully have by mid-July.

          1. FYI it is very common for them to not log as produced until well into the following week. Tuesday or Thursday or whatever during the week following the Target Production Week suddenly it will show that 4 milestones were hit in the same minute, which obviously is a clerical issue, not a manufacturing possibility. I would estimate around 60-70% are like that. Logging some time during the week is the exception, so no news during this coming week isn’t a bad sign.

        2. I wished they had more color options for any vehicle I’m fixing to order me a truck and I’m almost willing to swallow my pride and order a Ford due to the color options they offer

    2. Had it on order since Oct or made reservation in Oct? I made my reservation for the Denali Ultimate 10/21/21 but did not get to order until 01/27/22. They actually reached out to me and could have ordered three weeks earlier, but Titanium Rush was not available so I choose to wait until it was, which ended up being 01/27/22. Truck was delivered to dealership 05/28/22 and I picked up 05/30/22. The only thing that was not available when I placed my order in January was front/rear parking sensors.

  2. GM looks like they are heading to make one kind of truck, 4 door 4 cylinder in white only!!

  3. Come on, does anyone think a color will enhance the looks of this ugly truck ?

    1. I do.

  4. Since GM is changing exterior colors; they should also change the drab interior colors . Might change sales if they improve their mind set!

    1. Every single one they can build sells. The VAST majority are custom orders or otherwise reserved before they’re built. How, exactly, would changing the interior color options change sales??

  5. Silver Ice Metallic is a Chevrolet color. GMC Sierra calls it Quicksilver Metallic.

Having seen the order workbook for the Acadia, Volcanic Red Tintcoat appears to be just a little bit brighter than Cayenne Red Tintcoat. Perhaps close enough that you wouldn’t even notice the difference if they weren’t parked side-by-side.

    1. I’m curious if they really are different? Chevy has the same red I think its called “Radiant”? I really like the cayenne red but don’t want to order a Sierra in the new Volcanic if its even a touch “brighter” I don’t want a firetruck red pickup lol

  6. I just wish I could get the AT4 in the Pull me Over RED. Red is supposed to be red not maroon.

    1. FYI Cardinal Red is one of the least popular colors. It baffles me why they cancel popular ones like Satin Steel, Iridium, Cayenne, etc., and yet keep something like Cardinal Red. I sell maybe 2 of those per year. Mind you I drive a Cardinal Red truck. It’s not my favorite but it’s a good color (and the price was right when I bought it), but there’s no question that it is dramatically less popular than Cayenne (which is decidedly not “maroon”).

I do agree that customers should be able to get any trim in any color offered on that model. Just wanted to share the reality that yours is the minority opinion by far concerning Cardinal Red.

  7. I agree 100% that you should be able to get any color of that year in any trim line they carry, hell they are all built in 1 of 2 plants.
Further agree on dropping the most popular colors (Satin Steel, Dark Sky) for something butt ugly (Titanium Rush Metallic?

  8. I ordered a 2022 6.2L AT4 Limited in September 2021, then in December 2021 was told I had to switch to refreshed, then in June 2022 told once again I had to switch to 2023. I have a build date of September 5th, which I will believe when I see. I have contacted GM about this with no real results either.
I am third generation Ford hater and all I have ever owned is GM’s and I am not young but they are certainly testing my patience
