The third-generation GMC Canyon is set to drop for the 2023 model year, introducing a long list of changes and updates for the midsize pickup nameplate. Now, we’re taking another look at the 2023 GMC Canyon out and about draped in some light camouflage.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the third-gen 2023 GMC Canyon testing in prototype form with this light black-and-white camo treatment, so check out our previous coverage for more info on that. This particular example, however, has a variety of noteworthy features worth going over.
For starters, this particular 2023 GMC Canyon is likely the premium Denali trim level, as evidenced by the large, polished wheels. Although the front end is covered in camouflage, we can still make out thin slats for the revised grille and fascia, while production headlights reveal a two-tiered lighting design with the primary forward-facing headlights located lower on the front fascia, and thin horizontal lighting signatures located higher in the fascia. The front end also shows off a pair of fog lights located in the middle of the front bumper. Finally, we can point to the high-clearance bumper design as well.
Although these angles don’t provide a clear view of the profile, we can still make out the wheels, which appear to be sized at 20 inches in diameter. The rollers are wrapped in Bridgestone Dueller AT tires, while between the front and rear, we spot a prominent set of side steps.
In addition to a completely new exterior design front to back, the next-generation 2023 GMC Canyon will also feature a brand-new interior design, with an overall layout that will take a nod from the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. Beyond the exterior and interior updates, the 2023 GMC Canyon will also feature a new powertrain, specifically the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine. Under the skin will be an updated version of the GMT31XX platform, while production will take place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

I love GMC – their designs tend to be more distinctive and creative than the competition – but I really hope that upper light accent that stands out is meant to distract from the actual look. Nearly every manufacturer is doing that today, another reason why it’s becoming more difficult to differentiate between brands and models today. Based on the other design elements though, it appears that sadly this is going to look generic. What’s next? Show it in white with black rims? What happened to distinct designs and great colors?
Exactly and when it comes to distinct color choices, leave it up to RAM to set the example, Toyota comes in second.
The same thing that happened to manual transmissions and sedans. You people stopped buying them.
