2023 Ford Super Duty To Copy Silverado HD, Sierra HD Integrated Bedside Step

The Ford Super Duty pickup truck, a chief rival for the Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD, is set to introduce a full model overhaul for the 2023 model year. Now, GM Authority has learned from sources close to the matter that the 2023 Ford Super Duty will also debut an integrated bedside step in conjunction with the forthcoming model overhaul.

According to GM Authority sources, the 2023 Ford Super Duty will introduce a step that’s integrated into the side of the bed, just ahead of the rear wheel. This design will essentially copy the GM BedStep feature on offer for the Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD, offering easier access to the bed from the side of the truck. For the GM vehicles, the step includes a textured pad for better grip, while the design allows for easy access even while pulling a fifth-wheel trailer.

GM Authority’s sister publication, Ford Authority, recently published a series of spy photos showing a 2023 Ford Super Duty out testing in some swirling black-and-white camo, hiding the up-and-coming integrated bedside step under some extra body cladding. Although pictures of the feature on the overhauled Ford Super Duty are still forthcoming, the GM BedStep on the Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD provides a good preview in terms of what the feature will look like and how it works. To note, the GM BedStep is not to be confused with the bumper-mounted GM CornerStep.

In addition to this new bedside step feature, the overhauled 2023 Ford Super Duty will also introduce a revised front fascia design with reshaped LED headlights, a revised rear end, and an updated interior with modernized infotainment features, as well as a few mechanical upgrades. Meanwhile, GM’s heavy duty pickups, the Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD, will get full model refreshes for the 2024 model year, introducing, among other things, new exterior styling, completely overhauled interior designs, and a several changes to the mechanical bits.

  1. GM really does well at the simple things like this. It’s part of the reason RAM and ford haven’t quite won me over yet.

If I had to guess though, this fully camped ford will debut soon than the 2023 Silverado HD that’s only partially camoed 🙄

  2. The bed step is a great idea, can’t blame Ford.

They should have put effort into redesigning the front suspension, not the fascia.

  3. I think it means the Super Duty is going to have BlueCruise, Ford’s version of Super Cruise. The Super Duty is ahead of GM in ADAS, it’s got adaptive cruise control and lane departure steering assist already.

The BedStep is an excuse to put a plastic hole into the metal bumper to place the blind spot radar. Super Cruise/BlueCruise needs side sensors for lane change, particularly on such a long vehicle. Hence, hole in the side of the bed with a plastic step.

  4. A lot of Ford guys have made fun of GM’s bed step. Looks like they will now have to come to terms with it lol.

    1. Why would they do that? My neighbor has a 1992 F-150 With side steps. This is nothing new, just done in a different way.

  5. No, my neighbor has an old Ford Flareside with side steps that he drives to cars and coffee. None of this stuff is new. I even discovered that Ford had a contractor special edition in the 70’s that came with a on board generator. Many of us remember trucks from the past with side steps. Lol, come on guys.

  6. Zero hype about a Super Duty refresh, they already had a 12″ screen, and they beat GM to the punch by a whole year who unbelievably still only has an 8″ screen on the HD truck. And GM is today already making the cabs needed to refresh the HD but they’re making everyone wait another year and a half from now.

    1. “Unbelievably only” has an 8 inch screen. Give me a break. As far as I’m concerned, we’re not watching the latest movie in these trucks or browsing the internet. We’re sitting in the cab because we want to drive somewhere. Screen size isn’t as important as a comfortable interior that has a dash panel with easy to access user friendly controls for the HVAC and radio. I think even an 8 inch is too large and is distracting while driving. I can see the top of the line trim levels having it, but the Everyman’s truck has no need for an iPad molded into the dash.

  7. 🤣😂 seriously?! Bedside steps are older than me. Ford had the Flareside and Chevy came along with the Stepside.
