2023 Chevy Onix Introduces New Range-Topping Variant In Mexico

After starting exports of the vehicle from China to Mexico at the end of May, General Motors has just launched the 2023 Chevy Onix with several new features in the Latin American country, including a new range-topping variant.

The automaker announced that the 2023 Chevy Onix will introduce a new Premier Redline trim level, combining the two highest standalone trims offered on the vehicle in Mexico and China. In addition, the 2023 Chevy Onix manufactured at the GM Dong Yue plant will arrive in the Mexican market with a new entry-level engine.

“Chevrolet Onix is one of the vehicles that has come to set new standards in the subcompact segment, and our customers have enjoyed its complete level of equipment and performance,” said Marketing Manager for Chevrolet at GM Mexico, Wilberto del Ángel, in a statement. “With the new Premier Redline 2023 version, we are meeting the needs of the client who is looking for a more attractive design while maintaining the levels of safety and connectivity characteristic of Onix,” he added.

The all-new 2023 Chevy Onix Premier Redline adopts the Chinese-market Redline trim’s configuration, highlighted by blacked-out elements and red accents around the vehicle. Additionally, the 2023 Onix will be offered in the usual LS and LT trims.

The base powerplant will be the new naturally aspirated 1.3L I3 engine that develops 101 horsepower and 96 pound-feet of torque, matched to a five-speed manual transmission. The turbocharged 1.0L I3 engine that delivers 116 horsepower and 129 pound-feet of torque, managed by a six-speed automatic transmission, will be standard on the better-equipped versions.

The 2023 Chevy Onix Premier Redline will go on sale in Mexico at the end of July, exclusively as a four-door sedan and with an extensive list of technology and safety features. In contrast to Onix’s reduced connectivity features in Brazil, the model made in China maintains the on-board 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, Android Auto, and smartphone wireless charging.

Here are the prices of the 2023 Chevy Onix in Mexico:

  • 2023 Onix LS Manual: 303,900 MXN (about $15,250 at the current exchange rate)
  • 2023 Onix LS Automatic: 327,400 MXN ($16,430)
  • 2023 Onix LT Manual: 351,400 MXN ($17,630)
  • 2023 Onix LT Automatic: 376,900 MXN ($18,900)
  • 2023 Onix Premier Redline: 392,400 MXN ($19,690)

If this statement is true- “Chevrolet Onix is one of the vehicles that has come to set new standards in the subcompact segment” than why can’t GM sell this car in the US?

Bring it to the US at the prices listed above and this thing would probably sell really well.

Car looks quite nice. That one pic of the interior looks great, but is that center armrest even useable? Not a total fan of that screen, but it’s not as bad as others.

Yes, GM , sell it here in the U.S. and cut into the Asian car market with lower prices. It is an American car.

Amazing what we seem to look over in the US all in the name of a cheap thing. I would not chose to purchase this vehicle as you tend to get what you pay for and it would be supporting essentially slave labor while investing in manufacturing facilities in what seems like an enemy state.

Surprised GM doesn’t bring more cars here from CHINA. They already bring the Buick Envsion and people still buy them even though we are suppose to have poor relations with them and they are so in bed with Russia? No one gives a ___t where anything is from anymore.
