Like most automakers, GM has been struggling with a shortage of semiconductor chips for the past year or so. The most recent victim of these shortages is the 2023 Cadillac Escalade, which will unfortunately get limited availability of its four-way power lumbar adjustment from the start of regular production (SORP) on July 18th, 2022.
As the four-way power lumbar adjustment will be under constraint from the start of production, all 2023 Cadillac Escalade units that are typically equipped with this feature will instead come equipped with a two-way power lumbar adjuster. The driver four-way power lumbar seat adjuster (RPO code AVK) and front passenger four-way power lumbar seat adjuster (RPO AVU) are typically standard across all Escalade trim levels, however for the time being, the Luxury, Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels will be equipped with driver two-way power lumbar seat adjuster (RPO AL9) and front passenger two-way power lumbar seat adjuster (RPO AT9) instead.
It’s unclear how long this change will remain in effect for, however it’s worth noting the 2022 model-year Cadillac Escalade was also affected by this same parts constraint from the November 1st, 2021 production date onwards.
According to GM Authority sources, the start of regular production for the 2023 Cadillac Escalade will kick off on July 18th, 2022, the same date as the start of regular production for the 2023 Chevy Tahoe, Chevy Suburban, and GMC Yukon, as GM Authority covered previously. Production of the full-size SUV will once again take place at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.
The 2023 Cadillac Escalade features the same engine lineup, including the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 277 horsepower at 3,750 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm. Under the skin is the GM T1 platform. The 2023MY also sees the introduction of the 2023 Cadillac Escalade-V, a new high-performance variant that boasts the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine, rated at 682 horsepower and 653 pound-feet of torque.
