55Sponsored Links
For the next few days, GM Authority will be driving this 2022 GMC Sierra AT4X. The GMC Sierra AT4X is a new off-road trim level introduced with the latest 2022-model-year refresh for the light-duty Sierra 1500, offering even more capability in the rough stuff than the “regular” GMC Sierra AT4.
Production of the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 takes place at the GM Silao plant in Mexico and at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana. Under the hood, the AT4X features the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine as standard, which is rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Harnessing the muscle is the GM 10-speed automatic transmission, with upgraded front and rear e-locking differentials working to put it all to the ground.
Other notable equipment include a two-speed Autotrac transfer case, off-road suspension with Multimatic DSSV dampers, and protective skid plates, all of which is equipped as standard for the 2022 GMC Sierra AT4X. Also equipped as standard are 18-inch painted gloss black aluminum wheels, which are wrapped in mud terrain tires.
As for this particular 2022 GMC Sierra AT4X, optional extras include upgraded rocker protection, priced at $1,150, as well as premium Cayenne Red Tintcoat paint, priced at $645.
Moving into the Obsidian Rush cabin, the 2022 GMC Sierra AT4X features a 13.4-inch diagonal color touchscreen with Google built-in compatibility, as well as wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, and wireless device charging. Tunes are pumped through a 12-speaker Bose stereo, while behind the steering wheel is a 12.3-inch diagonal digital driver information center and 15-inch diagonal head up display.
Onboard safety and security systems include Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Front and Rear Park Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Rear Pedestrian Alert, and the Safety Alert Seat.
As for comfort goodies, there’s full grain leather seating, 16-way power front massage seats, heated front and rear outer seats, and ventilated front seats, as well as a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Notably, this particular model originally had an MSRP of $74,995, but due to recent pricing changes, the truck now has an MSRP of $78,295.
So, with that covered, we want to ask – is there anything that you want to know about the 2022 GMC Sierra AT4X? Post your questions in comments, and we’ll reply as soon as possible.

Yes why is there no Duramax
If there was, would you buy one?
Also, how would GMA tell you why there isn’t a duramax by driving this truck?
Oh idk it’s not like they have a mission to find answers to common questions.
Both the ZR2 and AT4X are impressive trucks, but there are two things that are perplexing:
1. The AT4X gets rock sliders, while the ZR2 does not.
2. The ZR2 wears 33″ rubber, while the AT4X wears 32″.
Both should get rock sliders and 33″ tires. It’s quite odd and nonsensical.
INfamous , Even you MR. mouth don’t understand GM’s crap and why they do what they do. Its a gimmick and carrot dangling from GM. 33″ tire , big frigging deal my 2500 ( POS ) Denali has a 34″ tire standard . Rock sliders , you act like that big man 4×4 is going to crawl over any thing taller than 7″ . GM can’t even keep transmissions in a truck that rides on pavement. did you forget they just bought back 3500 + trucks over quality control, GM JUNK
I truly feel bad for you, bud.
I couldn’t imagine having such a meaningless life that a person has to troll websites of products that they claim to despise and have absolutely no interest in buying. For example, I have no interest in The Home and Garden Network, but I don’t jump onto their website and troll it nonstop. I simply ignore it and go about my life.
I envision your life being something like this:
1. Troll GM websites 20 hours per day, 7 days per week.
2. The other 4 hours per day are spent walking around your parents’ basement in circles, frothing at the mouth, seething with anger, kicking furniture and muttering to yourself, “GM JUNK…GM JUNK…GM JUNK…GM JUNK…”.
You have four viable options:
1. Get a second job (or get a job, if you are currently unemployed).
2. Get a productive hobby.
3. Speak with a psychiatrist on a weekly basis for at least 6-12 months.
4. A combination of all three.
There is a lot more to life than being an internet troll. It is both an unintelligent and nonsensical habit. Do yourself a favor and take the appropriate steps to end it. You’re welcome.
The sliders are options on both
@ Justin
Thank you for the clarification. You are correct.
I believe the chamfered corners built into the Sierra fenders do not allow for the extra tire clearances that the Silverado can with its round fenders. That was the explanation for the different tire size options I got months ago when these were first getting info out.
How is storage for stuff like phone keys wallet sunglasses etc. seems like there aren’t many places to put things in reach
Nick – it’s pretty good. The center console has a sizable compartment at the very front that I use to throw various items like my wallet (around town) when I need it and my sunglasses. Moving rearward, there’s a set of cupholders that I use for storing cups/bottles, because my phone is actually in the designated spot below the center armrest, where it’s tucked away and charges safely. I also found the narrow spot between the shifter and cupholders to be useful for pens.
On longer trips, I put my wallet into the bin within the center armrest storage area. Both that bin (neatly divided into several compartments) and the storage area itself are very spacious. I could just as well place the water bottle in the large door compartment. Overall, I haven’t found any issues related to storage, though I would have liked to have seen a dedicated sunglass compartment within the overhead console. I guess I could use the secondary (upper) glove box for this.
where did GM authority take these pictures , under a over pass in the dead of night ? Blogger above says its an
“impressive truck” , what the hell is impressive ? the two red tow hooks , the grill that looks like Garfield the cat smiling , the 4″ high Nav screen with the little tiny knob to adjust radio volume , the cheap black un-finished plastics on the exterior of the truck, the ugly black wheels , the car like dash in a truck is impressive ?
Here’s food for thought on on cheap ass looking gm trucks = why does GM paint all the exterior plastics on a 40K Blazer with base coat/clear coat , but a 90K truck gets unpainted plastics , GM JUNK
16 year old, basement dwelling, neckbeard inbound.
Mickey hates GM, but visits GM websites on a daily basis just to troll. LOL! I hear your mom calling. Your Pepperoni Pizza Hot Pocket is ready and she’ll be bringing it down to your troll bunker in a few minutes.
INfamous , you hit me over comments but no one else. Your a Fake @SS like your brother Brandon.
Most comments today are negative on here about this stupid truck with red tow hooks, a skid plate and a badge If you could even afford this JUNK it would make you feel like your a big off roader.
1. You’re
2. Who is Brandon?
3. Please stop. You’re embarrassing yourself…again.
MY point exactly INfamous did not disagree with nothing above and the poor fool is up at 4:06 am in the morning getting ready to go to work for his shift at McDonald’s . Next week they are going to let him put the pickle’s on the Big Mac’s !!!
Have more than a wt and as far as being knowledgeable on fords my buddy drives that junk and like you he never finished high school which is apparent from your spelling. I am glad that you buy new trucks every year because driving fords that will be necessary. Sounds like the J JOHN business is booming in Florida and to let you know I live in a very red state.
your so smart yet you don’t know who Brandon is, and you even said I live in Florida so how would I have a basement , you BIG DAM DUMMY. keep driving that GM JUNK work truck. you say I need a new truck every yets cause its a Ford, yet GM JUNK motors bought back 3500+ trucks last month that did not even last 2 months , the Chevy VOLTs were all recalled this year over fires, GM 8 speed transmissions , haha you have one of them , 64 people dead in GM cars over faulty ignitions . KEK , let me be fair my 2022 King Ranch has a recall for wiper blades LMAO
I suppose you don’t realize that the time stamps on here are not ET. I’m also going to suppose that you don’t even know what ET means, so I’m probably wasting my time. I’m not getting up at 4:06am on a Sunday. LOL!
As far as the reference to me working at McDonald’s, that is beyond bush league. It’s simply a middle school level insult. I’m probably not far off either, since your spelling, grammar, punctuation and syntax are clearly on a young child’s level. Please stop.
Best of luck to you, kid. You’re definitely going to need it when you get out into the real world. You are truly cracking me up.
can some one answer me this seriously?? Who tf is Brandon and why are so many people waiting for him? Every forum, every comment section, there is someone yelling for Brandon, come on, lets go… reminds me of high school; parents yelling at me for being late.. from what I can tell, some white people use it as a derogatory term for other white people they do not agree with…
BRANDON is a ‘code’ name Trump sycophants use when referring to Joe Biden.
Why are you even on this page if you’re such a GM hater. Some guys just have to hate and you must be one of them. I own a 21 AT4 Duramax and it’s the best truck I have even owned, and I have owned many trucks over the years.
Ever? Is this your first vehicle? I think you mean the nicest/fanciest. You can’t tell if it’s been the best ever until the end of its life when nothing broke and it did everything you asked of it. Right now it’s just your nicest truck, not your best unless each one before it craped out before the warranty and this one hasn’t.
Seriously, you needed to jump on Richard for his comment. How his comment about being the best truck he’s owned offended you is beyond me.
My 2015 gmc 1500 all training 4by4 ,s transmission is shot .I bought this truck new. Never abused.I am learning that this is common. Why would I buy another.
What are the drive modes? Specifically, does the AT4X offer a ‘SPORT’ drive mode like other sierra options or is it limited to Normal, OffRoad, and Terrain modes like the zr2? I enjoy the Sport mode at times and am a bit disappointed the TrailBoss/AT4 have this mode but I believe they may have excluded from the top trim options?
Mickey what about fords raptor, pay 80,000 plus for some awesome Baja ready, a joke, that you never see in the dirt and can’t even tow anything with because the suspension is to soft? Look if you don’t like what gm is doing then write to gm better yet go get a job with gm design.
KEK
the Raptor is not designed to pull or have payload. its a baha truck with 12k worth of Fox shocks and bead locks, ect. there not selling for 80K, there selling for over 100K . its a Toy for upper middle class and above and thats what its bought for just like a corvette. I don’t like the raptor and yes it looks like crap too with its plastic looking wheels and matt paint. the ZR2 AT4 is a joke with red tow hooks a skid plate and a badge. even GM guys don’t understand what the package offers, You GM loyalist can’t accept a spade is a spade. At least the Raptor is tough looking , your ZR2 looks like a normal GM truck with a different badge. look at last weeks Carhartt edition, that truck offered a yellow pin stripe and a yellow C on the tail gate for 4 grand more. GM JUNK
Mickey big mouth If the raptor was not designed to tow then why does Ford offer you a tow package with the raptor? It is marketed as a BAJA truck put the only way it complete the BAJA is if it was driven at slow speeds. Now you talk about gm trucks with all there fake sissy stuff yet you drive a KING RANCH with padded, wood and brushed aluminum interior how much more sissy can you get. I don’t buy a truck with all that bs I buy a truck to use as a truck, bring that KING RANCH out to my ranch and let’s see how long all that crap last once you get that Ford carrot taste out of your mouth.
KEK ,
I have plenty of money to get a net truck every year and I do. This is why I own all the trucks I do. I have been in business 40 years + . I buy what ever I want. Yes the Raptor is still a F-150 with the raptor package , so it offers a tow package just like they offer a tow package on a Ford ranger or Canyon, but it does not have the ratings. Glad I could clear this up for you ,you big dam dummy. I’m sorry you have to buy a WT for your ranch. If I owned your ranch , I would still buy top of line trucks. This is America bud, and the sky is the limit no matter what your brother Brandon and the word salad queen says. I see you know a ton of info about the Ford king ranch’s, you must sit up at night dreaming about them.
One positive point about your ranch, If you have cattle , growing crops, & feeding America, I appreciate it, I have many farmer buddy’s and its getting tougher and tougher for them, and yes they all drive Fords, not GM JUNK with black wheels.
Cosmetics aside, are there any mechanical items that are specific to the AT4? Also, what happened to the performance intake and exhaust package?
From a mechanical standpoint, the AT4X gets a decent amount of unique features over the AT4:
– Multimatic DSSV dampers (not available on AT4)
– Transfer case with Terrain Mode (not available on AT4)
– Driver-selectable full-locking front and rear e-lockers (not available on AT4, but AT4 does have the auto-locking rear diff)
– External engine oil cooler (standard on AT4X, not optional on AT4)
– Auxiliary external transmission oil cooler (standard on AT4X, not optional on AT4)
The performance intake and exhaust package is not available on the AT4X because the exhaust tips are tucked under for better ground clearance and approach/departure angles.
No blind spot monitoring ?
It has it. Works quite well, too.
I will want to know about when there will be better lighting to see well ahead in the 2022 GMC Sierra
Mungal, what “better lighting” are you referring to? Too many road users complain about glare from high riding trucks, so automakers have to aim the headlamps down. Usually the headlamps are quite good but unless there is something in front of the vehicle reflecting light back the driver doesn’t even know it is there. We often get customer feedback that customers rate head lamps highly if there is well lit foreground right in front of the vehicle. This is just “comfort light” because there is very little time to react to something that foreground light is illuminating. Use your high beams and write to your senators and congressmen to have NHTSA accept SAE J3069 and there will be a plethora of Adaptive Driving Beam, or “Glare Free High Beam” vehicles available in short order. The Infrastructure bill didn’t actually immediately legalize ADB and we need a groundswell from enthusiasts like this community.
KEK , that shows exactly what type of person you are being that your best friends did not even finish school. So your the type of person that feels superior if you hang with people that are less educated than you, which makes you insecure. Bill gates dropped out, Steve Jobs dropped out , yea there really dump people aren’t they
Mungal – for what it’s worth, the forward lighting is great. I have driven in a few pitch black situations and the headlights did a marvelous job at illuminating the road ahead. The high beams take that a step further, especially with the auto high-beam feature (IntelliBeam).
Yes. When are they going to fulfill the reservations? I reserved mine in October, placed the pre-order in December and it still has not been pulled for production. On top of that, GM informed me they are no longer producing the red tint coat color, the one I pre-ordered in December. Very very disappointing!!! Sounds like a great truck but I might know for several more months!!
Let’s go Brandon, my buddy actually sells custom rifles to Trump Jr. Have you been drinking that blue water? You buy a new truck every year but yet you still own a 2019 Denali. You are getting boring. Come up with some new stuff and please get some rest, going to be a lot of turds to be pumped tomorrow.
see once again you know it all. I have 6 personal vehicles , 2019 2500 Denali, 2021 Ram 3500 Mega cab, 2022 Ford F350, 2022 Freightliner M2 112 Sport chassis, 2020 YukonXL , 2021 Expedition max , any more questions ? I have the titles for everyone , and you think we have basements in Florida. tell you what since its so boring and you think I’m all talk put your money were your mouth is: every title I show you proof of for above you give me 5 grand in cash for each . If i’m wrong on anything above I throw you 50 grand in cash 100.00 bills green backs for not being honest . You game ? Come on big boy , put your money were your mouth is. send me your email address
Out of college you idiot. There is this thing called Google, you can look up facts before you post. My buddy that dropped out of high school I actually helped him get where he is today because he is a good friend and when he was in the hospital for a year I kept his business going for him while taking care of my own.
why is this trim level not offered in 2 door OR Extended cab trim?? Gm has forgot not everyone wants or needs 4 doors.
The following is not from GMC, but my personal take on things to explain the reasoning:
1. The Crew Cab represents the overwhelming majority of retail full-size pickup truck sales.
2. At ~80K, this is an expensive vehicle that’s encroaching into niche territory. In doing so, it needs to have several uses, including for work, play, and family. The amount of people who are willing to pay this amount of money for what’s essentially a “coupe truck” that seats two (or three with a bench) is very limited, thereby making it difficult to make a business case for such a limited solution. At this price point, people want four full size doors and a truck that can do it all.
3. That brings us to the Double Cab or Extended Cab models. What’s the reason to get one of these over the one with full-sized rear doors? Given that shortening the cab won’t result in a significantly cheaper / more affordable truck, I personally can’t see any benefits.
w.r.t. #3. Not all of us have families. Just a need to on rare occasion haul some extra people. The extra bed length on an extended cab is more valuable to me than the crew cab. I have an AT4X on order – no idea if I’ll ever get it at this point – but if I actually had the choice of an extended cab, I’d have taken it.
Yup, point well taken. Problem is that GM has said that it doesn’t see sufficiently high levels of demand for such a configuration to bring one to market.
Interestingly, such a model is apparently in high enough demand in the Middle East for GM to offer a Trail Boss and AT4 reg cabs.
How is the quietness of the vehicle. How about the performance Bose stereo. Also, are the massaging seats comfortable?
Last summer an injector went out on my 2017 Sierra Denali and bend a lifter. Parts were sitting on a ship so I bought a 2021 truck. I’m very disappointed in a couple of changes like where the phone charger is located. Placing it in the center storage that wastes a lot of space there, what was wrong with the charger being in the top of lid??? Also where is the sunglasses holder? Good glasses easily cost a couple hundred bucks so throwing them in the hole in dash is not good.
These issues like many others I always ask “don’t the designers even use the features themselves?”
Can someone explain how the DATA needed to run the Google Nav works. I have burned thru a months worth {2.0} gig in the first 10 days of owning this truck.. I like the google maps but this will be expensive over the life of the truck if I have to buy DATA every 2 weeks. Can I shut it off and will anything on the navigation system work. This sucks
Just got a call today, from my dealership, that I ordered an At4X through, they notified me, as of right now, there are no more 6.2 liter V8’s, but according to GM, I could choose the 5.3 liter V8 or the diesel. They were just told this from GM, and were not given a reason for the cancelation of the 6.2 liter motor. My trucks been on order since the beginning of March, reserved one the moment you could back in 2021, now GM is pulling this crap. Super disappointed, considering getting my reservation, $100, back, and ordering a 2023 35″ package Raptor in August, basically the same price! LETS GO BRANDON!!!
Where did you get your MSRP value, We ( Freedom Buick GMC of Odessa, TX just got one in yesterday and the window sticker for VIN NG546839 shows $77,840.00 plus protection package 695.00, wheel locks 159.00 and a step package 1500.00 and mostly availability fee OF $19,000.00 Raising the sticker to A whopping $ 99,194.00. out outrageous
What is “availability fee”? Why not just call it additional dealer mark-up like always?
Yes, I have questions! Why no diesel and why no 6-1/2′ box?!?!? I’d rather give up a little off-road ability for some increased utility/cargo-carrying capacity! Guess I will be sticking to being a Ford guy (32+ years) and get the Ford F250 Tremor diesel next year when I retire.
You almost had me swayed, GMC!!!
