The debut of the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 saw the introduction of the new off-road-ready Silverado ZR2 model. As more and more enthusiasts flock to EVs, it seems likely GM will also want a battery-electric equivalent to this model – potentially spawning a Silverado EV ZR2.
With this model an outside possibility for GM’s future lineup, we figured we’d fire up a 3D rendering software and apply some of the Silverado ZR2 styling cues to the Silverado EV. Our Silverado EV ZR2 rendering features off-road equipment like a high-approach front bumper, off-road 18-inch alloy wheels shod in BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires, red-painted tow hooks and fog lamps, clearly communicating its go-anywhere capability.
In the rear, our rendering features clear taillight lenses for a slightly sportier appearance, along with a bed-mounted spare tire and a CornerStep bumper. Completing the package are a set of steel running boards, which would double as frame rail shields for off-roading, along with larger ventilated brakes with red-painted calipers and wider flared black plastic wheel arches. We also envision such a model as having a similar suspension setup to the GMC Hummer EV Pickup with the optional Extreme Off-Road Package, which features height-adjustable Adaptive Air Suspension. Other potential equipment could include underbody skid plates, front and rear e-lockers and ball spline half shafts, all of which are also offered on the Hummer EV.
This being a Silverado EV variant, it would ride on the automaker’s dedicated BT1 electric vehicle platform, with power coming from its Ultium Drive electric motors and Ultium battery family. Four-wheel drive would of course come standard. The Silverado EV is offered exclusively in a Crew Cab body style with a 5-foot, 11-inch bed, so this would be the only available body style.
The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV will only be available in two trim levels from launch: the entry-level WT and the sport RST First Edition. GM will eventually offer more trim levels, including Trail Boss, but it has yet to say if a ZR2 is in the works. Nevertheless, our rendering could provide a rough look at what such a model may look like if GM ever gives it the green light.

I love the black badging, red brake calipers, and tinted taillights and orange body color but it still an ugly truck.
