With the next-generation 2023 Chevy Colorado currently under development, the current 2022 model year Chevy Colorado is not long for this world. Production of the pickup is set to wind down this December, as GM Authority reported previously, and that will include the Colorado ZR2 Bison off-road models.
GM Authority has learned that production of the 2022 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison will wind down on December 5th, 2022 – just a couple of weeks before production of the entire 2022 Colorado model line comes to a conclusion on December 23rd. GM will cease production of all Colorado units equipped with the 2.8L I-4 LWN Duramax turbodiesel engine on July 4th, as we reported previously.
The Colorado ZR2 Bison is an even more capable take on the off-road-ready Colorado ZR2 that was developed in partnership with aftermarket company American Expedition Vehicles. Some highlights of this $5,750 equipment group include 17-inch AEV aluminum wheels, an AEV front bumper with a Flowtie grille, AEV fog lamps and underbody skid plates for the fuel tank, differential and transfer case. With the ZR2 as its starting point, the ZR2 Bison is available to order with either the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGZ gasoline engine, rated at 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, and the 2.8L I4 LWN turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.
The next-generation 2023 Chevy Colorado will also be offered in the ZR2 trim level, as confirmed by spy shots snapped by GM Authority photographers, although it’s not yet clear if the ZR2 Bison will return. This future mid-size pickup will utilize an evolved version of the current model’s GMT-31XX body-on-frame architecture, referred to internally as 31XX-2. Customers can also expect new exterior and interior styling, along with an all-new powerplant in the form of the turbocharged 2.7L I-4 L3B gasoline motor currently offered in the Silverado 1500.
The 2023 Chevy Colorado will continue to be built at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri alongside its corporate cousin, the 2023 GMC Canyon. We expect both trucks to make their respective debuts later this year.

Can they just give us some unwrapped pictures of the 2023 models already?! Ford isn’t making the new Rangers anytime soon, but at least they gave their customers something to look at. Come on GM… just show us something good.
IMO, good lookin Bison in these pics. Haven’t seen one in this color with the black accents.
Top tier Bison doesn’t have a stock OEM SC or a high HP turbo under the hood giving this truck a 350 to 370 HP with 400 lbs of tq v6 or diesel.
The engineers at gm need to separate te ZR2 Bison from the herd to capture this segment for 3 yrs until a competitor can develop one.
3 year headstart is huge. Take page out of the Dodge Hellcat strategy…
Would people buy a 360hp 400ftlbs v6 Bison pictured in this article?
Bye, son.
Oh, deer…
I bought a diesel 2020 ZR2 Bison in August of 2019. It is awesome. Some say the diesel is slow. But I don’t get it. Maybe I drive around very slow drivers with the occasional Toyo mini are zipping along. A lot of torque off the line. It’s armored with boron steel plates underneath. I’ve added the AEV snorkel, Warn winch, transmission skids. shock skids and other things. But this thing is fun to drive!
little trucks with 4 doors look terrible. Come on GM, get back to making 2 door pickup trucks and stop catering to the soccer moms who should of bought a minivan.
