The GM Authority Take
GMC Sierra sales saw a smaller decrease in sales volume on a percentage basis compared to Ford and Ram models. In addition, combined sales of the GM trucks enabled The General to lead the full-size mainstream pickup truck segment.
All this is despite various setbacks, including inventory being impacted by production hurdles throughout the 2021 calendar year due to the ongoing global semiconductor microchip shortage. Although production of the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra was delayed back in February 2022 and again for two weeks in March, it resumed in April. As a reminder, the GMC Sierra 1500 is assembled at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and at the GM Silao plant in Mexico. Better yet, the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 began arriving at GM dealerships in the U.S. in March.
We expect GMC Sierra sales to improve as more truck shoppers become interested in and purchase the updated 2022 Sierra. Highlights of the refreshed model include new exterior styling, a completely overhauled cabin, along with powertrain improvements, as well as the addition of a range-topping Sierra Denali Ultimate and the introduction of the all-new Sierra AT4X off-roader. The Sierra Denali Ultimate is GMC’s most luxurious pickup yet, while the Sierra AT4X is (mostly) GMC’s equivalent to the new Silverado ZR2. What’s more, GM Authority recently learned that GMC is already testing a next-level 2022 Sierra AT4X that could be an even more capable performer off-road.
In addition, GM is developing a new GMC Sierra HD AT4X as part of the 2024 model year refresh of the Sierra HD range to slot in above the “regular” GMC Sierra HD AT4, which GM Authority was first to report. The new GMC Sierra HD AT4X will join the “regular” GMC Sierra HD AT4 in Big Red’s heavy-duty pickup truck lineup, slotting above it, rather than replacing it. Recent spy shots of a prototype Sierra HD AT4X confirm our original reporting.
In addition, we recently spied the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD interior for the very first time, showing a new center stack configuration that most likely will mirror the one on the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. It’s worth noting that the Sierra HD refresh was originally planned for the 2023 model year, but was delayed until 2024 as a result of continuing setbacks stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused several GM vehicle launches to be delayed or otherwise pushed back by a model year.
In even bigger news, GM teased the upcoming electric GMC Sierra pickup at the end of last year. The electric GMC Sierra electric will be the third EV in GMC’s lineup, after the GMC Hummer EV pickup and GMC Hummer EV SUV. Just like the two Hummer EV model variants, the electric Sierra Denali will ride on GM’s BT1 platform while making use of GM’s Ultium battery system and Ultium Drive motors.
The introduction of the refreshed Sierra 1500, updated Sierra HD, and the Sierra EV should boost sales for GMC, particularly given that a whopping 43 percent of pickup owners plan to own an electric truck in the next decade.
The future continues to burn bright for GMC – a major profit center for General Motors – as it begins selling an ever-expanding range of attractive and highly competitive models over the next couple of years.

Comments
Can’t want to take delivery of mine after it’s been sitting in a corn field for months. Hopefully the wire harnesses aren’t too chewed up and gas stays under $6/gallon
GM authority funny numbers on there take. Brandon must be running GM authority too, with his word salad looser
It’s to bad that they chips for the ones in production now but I have been waiting for months to
Get the ones that belong in my new Serria limited and all I get is the runaround maybe it’s time
To look around differntly next time
Not sure what you’re even complaining about, that’s your fault for going with the limited lmfao
Someone should note that going forward the market will get smaller due to rate hikes, inflation, and legitimate supply shortages. Oh and higher gas prices
Though the fact that the Sierra is single-handedly beating the Tundra is impressive.
The time to ramp up supplies for EV vehicles is now, so that when they do reveal the Sierra EV in its entirety they can get it launched within 6 months. The whole pro of having a major manufacturer is to be able to push out new products faster….the Silverado EV being revealed in January and needing 2+ years to become production ready is very sad.
GM is all about talk and carrot dangling. even after GM launches there EV , it will be recall after recall like there Chevy VOLT junk. a consumer would need to be crazy to purchase any of this new EV crap from GM and Ford untill 5 years down the road. You say 2 years to become production , yet GM has been two years coming up with new interior, and it will be 4 plus years on the HD by the time they come out in 2024. and its a re-hashed interior at that.
Plenty of stupid and gullible Americans to do just that.
Let them suffer and laugh at their stupidity. Best way to deal with it.
And those EVs won’t be saving them.
Lithium cost are up 900%. Several other battery materials have tripled or more in price.
Anyone that wasn’t drunk on EV koolaid saw this coming like me.
Next up: Higher Electricity prices to totally negate any benefit to buying that EV.
