The GMC Hummer EV reinvents the iconic off-roader nameplate as an all-new, all-electric pickup and SUV, swapping the internal combustion in favor of GM’s latest Ultium battery and Ultium drive motor technology. Naturally, doing the Hummer nameplate right means bringing the off-roading chops in force, and to that end, General Motors says that the new GMC Hummer EV SUV was tested in Moab.
GM recently posted images of the GMC Hummer EV testing on off-roading trails around Moab, Utah, including rock crawling, steep inclines, and river crossings. The images show the GMC Hummer EV in the SUV body style, although the all-electric off-roader is also available as a pickup.
For those readers who may be unaware, Moab is a city located in eastern Utah that is world-famous for its off-roading trails, with a deluge of rough-stuff enthusiasts making the pilgrimage to test their mettle (and their metal) against the natural challenges on offer. Apparently, that includes GM as well.
Back in April, GM Authority covered images of a GMC Hummer EV Pickup that was spotted with a number of interesting stickers located in the rear window, which appeared to represent some of the off-road trails which the Hummer had visited. That includes Windrock Park, located in Oliver Springs Tennessee, which offers 73,000 acres of off-roading adventures – exactly the right spot to see what the GMC Hummer EV can do.
We’d certainly put Moab on the list of places to test the Hummer, as well.
As a reminder, the GMC Hummer EV SUV will be available with the Extreme Off-Road package, which throws on skid plates, an electronically locking front and rear differential, underbody cameras to navigate rocky terrain, heavy-duty ball spline half shafts, and a set of all-terrain tires. As for the power spec, output ranges between 625 horsepower and 830 horsepower, while under the skin is the GM BT1 platform. Production will take place at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.

I’m concerned about such a heavy vehicle’s performance in the rocky Uranium country of Eastern Utah and Western Colorado. Many newbies will buy these and crater them on the sandstone. Just like many Jeep newbies do.
Hope that the Chevrolet dealer in Moab is equipped for repairs of the new electric Hummers. The Hummer users in Moab will be asphalt rangers from Los Angeles and other urban centers.
They’ve got rock-sliders and reinforced underside for battery protection, right? Might survive easier than our fossil friends do…
Shorter wheel base than the pickup , lot better on the trails of they ever see them
