GM Is Benchmarking The Audi E-Tron Crossover

General Motors is stepping into the all-electric space with a variety of new models, announcing a total of 30 EVs set to launch globally by 2025. As such, GM is benchmarking the competition as well, including the Audi e-tron crossover, as evidenced by these new spy photos.

GM Authority spy photographers recently caught this Audi e-tron undergoing benchmarking outside the GM Milford Proving Grounds in Michigan. This particular model is easily identified as a GM benchmark vehicle, as indicated by the small stickers located on each end of the rear bumper.

The Audi e-tron is not to be confused with the smaller Audi Q4 e-tron, or the e-tron GT sedan. With regard to competition from GM, the Audi e-tron will rival the Cadillac Lyriq in terms of size and price. For the former, the Audi e-tron has a wheelbase of 115.3 inches, an overall length of 193 inches, an overall width of 76.2 inches, an overall height of 65.5 inches, a front track width of 64.7 inches, and a rear track width of 64.6 inches. For pricing, the Audi e-tron starts at $65,900.

Motivation is sourced from a pair of electric motors, with one up front and another in the rear. Juicing the batteries is a 95-kWh battery, with peak output set at 355 horsepower, rising to 402 horsepower with Boost Mode activated. Flat out, the Audi e-tron will sprint to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, while top speed is set at 124 mph. Range-per-charge comes to an EPA-estimated 222 miles. Curb weight is 5,765 pounds.

Indeed, GM has been busy as of late benchmarking rival products in the all-electric space, including several Tesla vehicles like the Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model S Plaid, and Tesla Model X, as GM Authority covered previously.

As for the Cadillac Lyriq, production is underway now at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.

  1. This is one of the better vehicles to benchmark against. This is a lovely vehicle to look at on the road.

    1. Agree, I’ve seen one in the area in white. You’d never know it was an EV. I think the polestar’s look good too. Finally getting more EV’s that don’t look like a POS.

  2. Yes it is.
Now, for GM, why this benchmarking wasn’t conducted back 3 years ago, at least?
And not precisely with the Q5 or Q3 but with the Q8 ETron which was launched back in 2018-2019.

    Anyways…

  3. Taking a look to this audi and the Buick Envision bodies (https://gmauthority.com/blog/2022/05/buick-envision-discounts-incentives-offers-deals-may-2022/) I can’t see a big difference between both models, maybe audi looks a little roomier and with bigger brakes.
Let’s remember that audi, and vw actual cars are sons of the “super lopez” treason and espionage in favor of vw and against GM which transformed the 80s vw shoe box with flat glasses into top-line new models.
The huge difference in favor of audi as most of the german products is mainly the branding job and the style fine tuning.
In my opinion, audi are just vw disguised of high-end vehicles and supported with publicity and movies of “successful” guys that drive a “german car”.
GM technology is much above audi, GM cars are affordable and the top-line models are better equipped than all german cars.
GM should do better branding work, fine tunning improvements like lighting systems, software, riding with its own geomagnetic technology, improve elastic cushioning of suspension links and sound isolation to make a more silent and satisfying ride than any other cars as they did on the golden ’60s
