Florida GM Dealer Asking $100,000 2023 Corvette Z06 Markup

The 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 is an enormously appealing vehicle, offering incredible mid-engine performance and stunning looks that elevate the eighth-generation C8 to a whole new level. That said, it looks like at least one dealer is leveraging that appeal to justify a hefty six-figure price markup.

In a recent post to reddit, user idontcare shared a screenshot of what appears to be an email from a salesperson at Dimmitt Chevrolet in Clearwater, Florida. In the email, the salesperson outlines the pricing and deposit involved in securing a new 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06, including $5,000 to hold the spot in line, $20,000 when the order is placed, and $75,000 at delivery plus MSRP. The email also states that the customer will need to sign a document stating they agree to pay $100,000 over MSRP to get the vehicle.

Indeed, for Chevy fans, the idea of doling out one-hundred grand over MSRP for the new 2023 Corvette Z06 could come as something of a shock. Currently, official pricing figures for the new sports car are still forthcoming, but initial estimates put MSRP around $90,000. If that’s the case, this $100,000 markup would more than double the cost.

Indeed, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen eye-widening markups for popular GM vehicles. The C8 Stingray certainly comes to mind, with some dealers asking for upwards of $100,000 over MSRP, or the Cadillac Escalade, with some dealers asking for upwards of $30,000 over MSRP.

Last year, GM Authority spoke with Chevrolet’s Director of Car and Crossover Marketing, Tony Johnson, about markups for the C8 Stingray.

“Dealers are the interface with the customers, so customers make the deal with the dealer, so we leave that side of the business to our great dealer partners, who I think do a fantastic job, honestly, meeting customer needs and helping them through the journey,” Johnson told GM Authority.

When asked if there was anything GM or Chevy could (or would want) to do to encourage dealers not to charge over MSRP, Johnson said, “Well, it’s supply and demand. We supply them, the dealers meet the demand.”

Earlier this year, GM sent a letter to dealers stating it would be “forced to take action if it learns of any unethical sales practices or brokering activities that undermine the integrity,” of its brands, including rerouting a dealership’s 2023 Corvette Z06 or 2024 Chevy Silverado EV allocations, or taking “other recourse prescribed by the Dealer Sales and Service Agreement.” It should be noted that GM has no legal method that forces dealers to sell vehicles at a certain price.

As a reminder, the 2023 Corvette Z06 features the naturally aspirated 5.5L V8 LT6 engine, rated at 670 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Under the body panels is the GM Y2 platform, while production will take place at the GM Bowling Green plant in Kentucky.

  2. I’d also note you can see how dealerships and salespeople are stuck in the face-to-face business era with that e-mail misspelling the customer’s name, typos (“incase”), missing commas, a giant run-on sentence, poor tone, etc.

This isn’t a cheap car: people buying Corvettes are very likely going to have office and managerial experience and this stuff screams unprofessional.

I live in the area and also drive Cadillac which they sell at another store
I can guarantee I will never by any thing from them no matter how close or convenient they may be.

      1. Couple of years ago we bought a new Chevy for my daughter in California. I have been Chevy loyal since 16 when I bought my 1970 454ss Monte Carlo, it was used ((I was 16 then and I’m 60 now and I still own that car). The dealership treated us right at the time and since then they’ve been sending me emails about their sales and such. Fast forward to last year and my wife and i are captured by the new C8. I sign up with Chevy to learn more before we buy and everything i learn is positive about the car, definitely going to buy one. One day I get a call from I a salesperson from the California dealership informing me that he has a new C8 for me but they wanted an extra $50k mark up to get it. Told him only if I could get it with the automatic front end lift system fully raised and I would drive it up his ass! Never buying from them again and now that we have moved to Florida I’ve added The DimWit dealership to that list. Price gouging to an amazing greedy level.

I bought a Monte Carlo from a chevy dealer at a discount and ordered it exactly as I wanted. Almost all dealers will take advantage if they can. Think of it like the story of the frog and the scorpion crossing the river. Ended up badly for both, because it is the nature of the beast. And hence the reason gm needs to punish them severely. gm will be the frog if they are not careful.

Absolutely absurd, at $250K (loaded estimate with $100K add) the 2023 Z06 now has a gently used McLaren 720S as its competition and it is not even close, the McLaren is the clear choice and destroys it in all categories. There is a reason the Corvettes are priced where they are by Chevrolet. A shame what is about to happen with the C8 Z06.

  26. Don’t you just hate that statement “everyone’s doing it” (add your own vehicle brand here as far as selling at way above MSRP) that some dealers are professing to when they get a popular item on the lot for sale. It doesn’t have to be a Chevy Dealer that can take any potential C8 customer for “one way ride to the poorhouse”, we’ve seen those crazy FORD dealers having a ball banging every potential customer for the new Ford Lightening, the Ford Bronco, and the Ford Maverick and Mustang Mach E GT plus certain Mustang models that carry the name “Shelby” stamped anywhere on it!
Here in good old SoCal, it’s always a trick to find any kind of car dealer whole deal fairly with you when you’d like to purchase one of their products…be it a Corvette or a new Hummer ect., it’s just getting totally crazy out there as the “have’s take from the have not’s” and “he who has possession of the gold controls the situation”…that said, if and when things finally calm down (yeah, right) someday, maybe we’ll once again get back to some kind of normalcy but don’t count on it.
The question I have asked a few dealers who play this nonsensical game is “so where the added cash one pays for a vehicle go, whose on the receiving end of the added markup cash”?
Wonder what they had to say? Interestingly, one was totally honest saying that the added cash will go back into the dealers inventory needs, another said “probably into the pocket of the dealership’s owner or owners”, one or two would not or could not answer (I feel) answer honestly…and one told me “it’s none of your business”…and he was right, it isn’t any of my business who receives the added cash when a dealer “bangs the living dog snot out of a pathetically rich I just got to have it customer”. Oh well…this sort of craziness is sure to continue as long as there are well to do customers willing to pay an outrageous dealer “Fair Market Value” sticker increase on a vehicle they are contemplating buying.
We can’t really get too mad at these “A$$holes” that do this sort of crap because truthfully if we were honestly blessed with enough extra cash on hand to pay these crazy markup prices, say on a new, in stock, Z06 and it was just what we were looking for, I doubt any of us would simply walk away in disgust.
We’d lay down the extra cash and drive away happy with our new C8 Z06, and would probably even brag about paying a really outrageous “Fair Market Value” to our friends and family or anyone who’d listen. Relax, no one is going to think any less of you, oh they’ll shake their heads probably behind your back at your stupidity, but in truth, they’d be wishing that they had the added cash to do what you just did. If you’re of the mindset that “no way would I ever do this sort of thing” then fine, more power to you, but if you’re honest like most of us folks who’d like a crack at a new C8 Z06, we’d certainly consider “doing it” if we could, so now that we can’t, some of us are all “Butt Hurt” and therefore will b*tch about this unfair practice of gouging an MSRP while the rest of us, we can dream can’t we, and I doubt there will be a “Surcharge” for this.
Oh, and yes I’m a Corvette owner and yes I did not pay over MSRP for my Corvette “back in the day”, but that was then and this is now and the fact that my car is worth more than I originally paid for it is interesting, but I do enjoy driving my ‘Vette and it’s been my dream car for some time now and I’m satisfied (for now) until I can afford a new Corvette. ‘Nuff said.
