The Average Transaction Price (ATP) for new Buick vehicles was up 13.9 last month, recorded at $38,967, as compared to an ATP of $34,225 recorded for April of 2021.
Per a report from automotive research and valuation company Kelley Blue Book, ATP figures were actually down 2.2 percent month-to-month, as compared to an ATP of $39,859 for March of 2022, even though the ATP for new Buick vehicles was up year-over-year in April.
Taken collectively, the ATP for all four U.S. GM brands, which includes Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC, was up 6.3 percent last month, from $49,741 in April of 2022, to $46,795 for April of 2021. Month-to-month, the collective ATP for all four GM brands was down slightly by 0.4 percent, with a figure of $49,920 recorded for March of 2022.
Looking more closely at the other three GM brands, the ATP for new Chevrolet vehicle sales was up 5.9 percent year-over-year in April at $46,225, as compared to an ATP of $43,647 for April of 2021, while GMC’s new-vehicle-sales ATP was up 0.4 percent year-over-year at $57,689, as compared to an ATP of $57,448 for April of 2021. Obviously, one of the biggest factors affecting ATP for the last year has been the global microchip shortage, which has kept new vehicle inventory low with an average supply in the low 30-days range last month. Low inventory, coupled with high customer demand, kept incentives low as well, averaging at just 2.8 percent of ATP last month.
Also of note was an increase in luxury vehicles sales as a percentage of total new vehicle sales, which was up to 17.4 percent of total sales last month, as compared to 16.7 percent of total sales in March. Furthermore, the average luxury buyer paid $65,628 for a new vehicle in April, which was down slightly ($4) month-to-month, but still $1,865 above sticker price, as compared to an average of $1,850 under MSRP for 2021.
