The 2023 Chevy Equinox will see the return of the Midnight Edition package to the compact crossover.
The Midnight Edition package is a black-themed exterior appearance package that was offered on the 2021 Chevy Equinox, but dropped for the 2022 model year. GM Authority has learned this appearance package will return to the Equinox for 2023, although it’s not clear exactly what the package will entail this time around. We do know the package will be available on the LS trim level, suggesting it will be a way for customers to make this lower level trim appear a bit more upscale.
On the 2021 Chevy Equinox, the Midnight Edition package carried RPO code WN5 and cost $995 to equip on the LT trim – the only trim level it was offered on. It included the following equipment: (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):
- Jet Black premium cloth interior (RPO H1T)
- 19-inch Gloss Black aluminum wheels (RPO PJI)
- Dark finish fog lamp bezel surround (RPO TVO)
- Unique mold-in-color Black grille and mesh with Black surround (RPO TL6)
- Front and rear Black bow ties
The Redline Edition package also returned to the Chevy Equinox for the 2022 model year, although this was a late-availability option for the crossover. The Redline Edition may return for the 2023 model year, seeing as it only became available to order for 2022 earlier this month.
The Chevy Equinox was originally slated to receive a refresh for the 2021 model year, but due to complications arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, the model refresh was instead pushed back to the 2022 model year. As 2022 was the first model year for the refresh, we expect minimal changes for 2023.
Under the hood, the 2022 Chevy Equinox features the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX gasoline engine, rated at 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. The crossover sits on the GM D2 platform, while production for the North American market takes place at the GM Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico.
The 2023 model year may be the last for the current Equinox, with the nameplate set to morph into an electric model with the introduction of the 2024 Chevy Equinox EV.
