2022 GMC Sierra Super Cruise Under Constraint

The fully refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 introduces with it a long list of changes and updates for the light-duty pickup, including new tech features like the GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assist system. Now, however, GM Authority has learned that Super Cruise is currently under constraint for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500.

Some units of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 that would normally include the GM Super Cruise feature will be built without it, as of June 13th production. The feature constraint is the result of the ongoing microchip shortage, and it is currently unclear when the feature will once again be available.

GM Super Cruise is tagged with RPO code UKL, and is normally offered as an optional extra for Denali trim levels in conjunction with the Crew Cab / Short Bed body style (not available for Denali Standard Bed trims). Super Cruise is also normally equipped as standard for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate trim level, which is only offered in the Crew Cab / Short Bed body style.

For the Denali trim, Super Cruise requires the Technology Package (RPO code CWM), and either the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine or 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine. The feature is also included with the optional Denali Reserve Super Cruise Package (RPO code RFP), which includes the Technology Package content. However, the Denali Reserve Super Cruise Package is also currently unavailable to order.

Notably, this latest feature constraint also affects the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500’s Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking (RPO code UGN). Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking is normally available for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali trim, but is included and only available with the Technology Package (RPO code CWM). Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking is also normally standard for the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate.

Buyers affected by constraints for GM Super Cruise and Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking will receive a $2,300 MSRP credit. The features will not be available for retrofit at a later date.

As a reminder, 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered with four powerplant options, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, the atmospheric 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, the atmospheric 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax. Under the body panels is the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Silao plant in Mexico and GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana.

  1. Reserve my Denali ultimate in November ordered it January 21 dealer told me Monday no super cruise. Did I want to order a 2023 I told him I wanted my money back because GM will have a new truck out in 2024 this sucks. Already had an owner loyalty coupon worth $5400 from GM because there’s so many problems with my 2019 high country two of which they still haven’t fixed in three years and 48,000 miles. They gave me the owner loyalty coupon because they gave up on trying to fix my truck. Squeaks in the front end had two front half shafts a front differential and still does it had all the lifters number seven injector number seven piston put in it and it still uses 3 to 4 quarts of oil every 5000 miles. This sucks!!!!!

    1. That’s the price you pay for buying these low quality overpriced new trucks.
My 2002 GMC Sierra with 262,000 miles doesn’t squeak or rattle going over bumps. In fact I still have the original CV shafts on it & the boots are still tight and dry.
As long as consumers gullibly continue to buy these poorly made new vehicles nothing will change.

  2. I’m tired of all the waiting and constraint issues due to the global chip shortage. I plan to just get my deposit back and let it all go. I’ll just keep driving my 2017 Titan Platinum until all these issues are corrected. Enough is enough! I’m off this train and outta here! I’ve got much better things to worry about other than wondering for 8-10 months or even a year when a truck is arriving!

  6. Have a 2021 AT4. Love it. Don’t find any occasion where I think ” Wouldn’t it be great if I could pass that big rig with my hands off the wheel clapping like a fool ? “

  7. While I see the humor in your comment. Do you take many 10 or 12 hour trips sometimes multiple days of 10-12 hrs well every year I do they get exhausting there’s times I would love to have supercruise take over for me. Studies show its safer on long drives than the traditional cruise or driving it never gets tired it never gets distracted.

  8. Same company who promotes safety promotes driving while pulling a trailer with no hands. When will driving your vehicle responsibly be required?

  9. If you would do a little research. Which nobody wants to do before they comment. You’d see that the national safety administration has tested the system thoroughly and say they are far safer than the average driver. The system has been out on Cadillacs for two years have you heard of any incidents?? They don’t get tired they don’t get distracted they don’t have arguments with people in the car. And it’s not an autonomous system you’re supposed to be aware and ready to take over at any time. Driving fatigue is a real problem for a lot of people that drive eight 10 12 hrs. a day the system takes pressure off of those people it’s not for everyone. But you will see it on every vehicle in the next 2 to 4 years.

  10. $2300 credit is an absolute joke. Truck is way overpriced without this feature! Been waiting 6 months for my order and now this.. poor job by gmc all around.

  11. I made a reservation in January with one dealership. After three months with no results I made another reservation with another dealership trying to double my chances of getting my order accepted.
Of course I was wanting the standard Sierra Denali, Cayenne Red with the Technology Package (not with the self driving function). As of June 1st, Cayenne Red is gone and I’m hearing from one dealer that changing color will automatically delete the Technology Package.
Reservations haven’t worked out … I’m realizing that GMC really stands for Government Motor Company.
I’m going to let my two reservation ride….. I just can’t wait for GM’s next excuse. This whole process has been a train wreck.
