Back in March, GM Authority reported that pricing for the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 increased for all trim levels, with the increase varying between $800 and $1,200, depending on the trim. Later that month, pricing increased again, with an additional $1,300 added to the base MSRP across the board.

As a reminder, the fully refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is available with four engine options. These include the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax. The refreshed pickup once again rides on the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Silao plant in Mexico, the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, and the GM Oshawa plant in Canada.

  1. It feels like the tipping point is coming, and not just in the automotive market

    1. Exactly.
Time for a nice big beautiful global recession to permanently end the free money cheap debt economy.

    2. give it 6 – 12 months , all these people that bought trucks at inflated rates and paid 65-75K for half ton trucks and financed them with 2 K down and have 900 a month payments for 7 years will start letting these trucks go and get re-popped because there 20K upside down. we are already in a recession as we are in the second qtr of what will be negative numbers, housing is slowing , construction is slowing except the back log of finishing pent up work from lack of materials, diesel at 6 dollars a gallon, food cost ect, and the market is going to get flooded with used trucks at the same time the factorys will catch up and values will tank. 7% interest rates for new buyers means your 900 payment is now 1100. all this for GM Junk

  2. GM does know that this vehicle is there profit vehicle right???? And that if they don’t sell these than the first thing bankruptcy court will do is close factory 0 and all EV projects right????? And they also remember they it was them bragging about all the customers moving from sedans to truck because of want and not necessity right?????? All those customers who could just as easily go back to a smaller cheaper car.

Are they exspecting another bailout? Cause 80% of CEO’s now predict a recession and are making moves to shore up their companies…. Yet build back better bara hasn’t seem to said a peep about it. Even 2005 GM ramped up production of smaller affordable cars and it didn’t save them. What will “gm” do????

    1. They are selling everything they can make right now, so they are eeking out every bit of profit now. It’s only a matter of time until they need to start offering deep discounts

    2. With every price increase we get closer to cash back rebates. This psychology will once again work on the consumer who will feel they cut a fat hog because they received 6-10k in rebates, while forgetting the starting price has more than covered whatever rebate they receive and then some.

  3. Barra did not plan for this, yet the warning signs have been flashing since Biden has signaled they need to curb inflation. Today this hike PLUS the fed rate hikes in the future DO NOT BODE WELL for the market scape. This isn’t good for anyone, in fact I think this is a GREAT reason why Trump was right to be so invested in being Material/Energy Independent in cases like today. Globalization creates innovation yes, but it also causes a house of cards effect when the world goes down. Sorta like depending on the power company to keep the power on during a storm versus buying a generator for cases like that.

  4. Prices for everything is skyrocketing. Even a fully loaded F-150 XLT has surged past $60,000. We should be grateful that Chevy can still get parts to make the trucks.

  5. This shouldn’t be surprising to anyone.

According to the US Dept. of Labor Statistics, prices have increased across the board by ~38-42% since December of 2020. Everything from petroleum, steel, iron, aluminum, beef, poultry, fish, electronics, etc. have gone through the roof. When 99.99% of the goods that we purchase are transported via 18-wheeler at one time or another, that price increase gets passed onto the consumer. The average price of diesel in the US is creeping up on $6 per gallon. Unfortunately, the pain is being spread far and wide.

P.S. Also in 2020, the US was 100% energy independent and was actually selling millions of barrels of oil to Europe (US Dept. of Energy). Now the valves have been shut off and many of the US pipelines are sitting idle. 🙁

  8. What this tells me is the margins for the low end trucks were not as good as say the margins on the vette. The vette increases have been surprisingly low given inflation. So when the raw materials went up, and they went up 10+%, trucks have had to have higher increases than say a vette to maintain a profit. I grew up in the 60’s & 70’s. Not pleasant to watch as prices went up and wages did not. Looks like we are back. No one really believed you could have a pandemic and a big war and still party like it was 1999 did they?

    1. Totally agree – I have a GMC Pro on order – scheduled to be build next week – I’m wondering if I’ll be price protected.

I also have an option on a Tundra SR5 – Lunar Rock with the Premium Sport Package – 20″ wheels, etc. for less than $53K it’s looking like the Tundra is the way to go !

I’ll tell the deal to keep the $100 at this point and I’ll go with the Toyota – As much I’m a GMC guy, I’m at my tipping point.

  12. It’s pretty simple, quit paying these outrageous prices and they’ll have to introduce rebates. Just like everyone else GM is price gauging right now to make as much money as possible before this bubble bursts. Unfortunately people are buying the as if they were a necessity, like food.

  13. The tipping point has been reached. All the indicators are pointing to a recession. The high priced trucks will start piling up in dealer inventory. The higher cost of everything including interest rates, $6+ gas, will slow all auto sales. Going to be a tough battle for manufacturers. Cash will be king again.
