2022 Buick Enclave: Here’s What’s New And Different

The 2022 Buick Enclave marks the fifth model year of the second-generation Enclave. The large, three-row crossover received a refresh for the 2022 model year. Here’s everything that’s new and different for the 2022 Enclave.

2022 Buick Enclave Model Line

The 2022 Buick Enclave sees the deletion of the Preferred FWD trim level, thereby making Essence the new base model.

2022 Buick Enclave Exterior

On the outside, the 2022 Enclave replaces three exterior colors with three new ones:

Deleted colors:

  • Satin Steel Metallic
  • Dark Slate Metallic
  • Red Quartz Tintcoat

New colors:

  • Sage Metallic
  • Emperor Blue Metallic
  • Cherry Red Tintcoat

There’s also a slight change to the exterior mirrors for the Premium and Avenir trim levels. While these continue to be body-color and power-folding with integrated turn signals and driver-side auto-dimming feature, the memory recall function is now bundled as part of the Memory Package for the 2022 model year. By comparison, the 2021 model year had the memory mirror feature included with the mirror RPO Code (DNP).

Additionally, three wheel choices are replaced by three new ones:

Deleted wheels:

  • 18-inch Painted aluminum wheels (RQK)
  • 20-inch Aluminum wheels with premium Pearl Nickel finish (SME)
  • 20-inch Polished aluminum wheels (SQ7)

New wheels:

  • 18-inch Aluminum wheels (Q7B)
  • 20-inch Aluminum wheels with Pearl Nickel finish (SUO)
  • 20-inch Chrome wheels (SNT)

A few LPO-level changes are also in store, including:

  • Deletion of wheel locks, including 4 locks and 1 key (LPO)
  • Addition of bright center caps with bright Buick Tri-Shield logo (LPO)
  • Addition of bright center caps with colored Buick Tri-Shield logo (LPO)
  • Addition of black rear license plate applique (LPO)

There are also two changes associated with the exterior of the range-topping Enclave Avenir. First, the trim-specific headlamps are included and only available in conjunction with the Avenir Technology Package. Buick has confirmed to GM Authority that these trim-specific headlights do not perform any different functions than the standard LED headlights. Instead, they just have a different appearance to better integrate with the Avenir’s fascia design. Finally, the Enclave Avenir gets a set of front intermittent Rainsense wipers as standard, which were not available in prior model years.

2022 Buick Enclave Interior

On the inside, the 2022 Buick Enclave sees the audio system with the eight-inch diagonal Buick Infotainment System with Navigation replacing the former Buick Infotainment System with Navigation and eight-inch screen. The new system is optional on the Essence trim level and standard on the Premium and Avenir trims. Additionally, Wireless Apple CarPlay/Wireless Android Auto are now standard across all trim levels.

A Head-Up Display is added for the 2022 model year as standard on Premium and Avenir, and is not available on the base Essence trim. Additionally, Rear Pedestrian Alert is added to the lineup as optional on the Essence trim (as part of the optional Technology Package) and standard on Premium and Avenir.

In addition, the 2022 Enclave gets a new pollutant and fine dust air filter as standard across all trim levels. This comes one model year after Buick unexpectedly deleted the air ionizer feature for the 2021 model year. Moreover, the leather-wrapped steering wheel with wood accent, which was standard on Avenir for the 2021 model year, is replaced with a leather-wrapped steering wheel without wood trim.

Finally, the 2022 Enclave gets a new foldable cargo organizer as an LPO-level (dealer-installed) item.

2022 Buick Enclave Mechanical

There were no mechanical changes to the 2022 Buick Enclave.

The utility vehicle continues to be powered by the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LFY engine rated at 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. The atmospheric six mates to GM’s nine-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels by default or all four wheels via an optional all-wheel-drive system.

2022 Buick Enclave Packages

The 2022 Buick Enclave sees the addition of the Experience Buick Package, which indirectly replaces the Sun and Sites Package from the 2021 model year. Optional on the Essence and Premium trim levels, the package includes:

  • Power-sliding moonroof
  • 20-inch polished aluminum wheels

The crossover also sees the addition of the Technology Package, which is an option on Essence. The package includes:

Finally, the 2022 Enclave sees the addition of the Buick Driver Confidence Plus Package as a replacement for the Safety Package on the Essence trim. In that way, the Driver Confidence Plus Package becomes standard on all trim levels and includes the following safety features:

2022 Buick Enclave Availability

The 2022 Buick Enclave is assembled by GM USA at the GM Lansing Delta Township factory in Michigan. The plant has been building 2022 models since July 2021.

Looking ahead, we expect that the current, second-generation Buick Enclave to remain in production for the 2022, 2023 and 2024 model years, before being overhauled thereafter.

    1. Fwiw I’d rather see a diesel or hybrid option. Leave the EV to Chevy or caddy imo. Diesel like in the Escalade would be neat since these cars are fairly large and quite heavy. Hybrid same thing however I want to keep the towing. Electric assist motors to amp up sport mode would be cool too.

  2. I do love that GM holds on to the big V6. But in this day and age a 2.5L with a big turbo would get its mileage up quite a bit.

    1. Is GM still building the Enclave Avenir? I placed an order over 4 months ago and have not received a production date.

      1. You should have a build order number. You can also ask the dealer the status. Have them show you on the screen. If it has a vin it’s built usually. I had one held and it was code 4200 in the system. Nobody knew what the deal was with it. It wasn’t on the rail system for shipping yet nothing. I had my order in and 1k down so no funny business since the beginning of February. It is still code 4200 and limbo. Luckily I found one while out with the wife out of town and it was exactly what I ordered. I bought it on the way home. Grandfather works for Ford dealer here has had a maverick on order since October.

  3. They neglected to mention that the avenir trim deletes the custom exhaust tips. exhaust used to have a special tip through the cover. The exhaust is now hidden behind the plastic bumper cover pointed down like cars not long ago. What I saw when I picked up my 2022 avenir a week ago is the essence or premium models keep those and the avenir does not. Mechanically the avenir tech package is mostly cosmetic and suspension. The suspension a 1500 addon is key as it rides very different than a loaded premium. The sunroof in rear is also motorized but still manual up front for some odd reason. The rear manual shades would fail due to plastic fatigue and it was riveted with metal. What a dumb design. You also get sport mode now which does jack all except to seemingly change the shift points. No tune no exhaust note difference. This is my big gripe. What do I get for the avenir? It doesn’t seem like much. The avenir wheels look like the regular premiums since 2018. Continental is a nice tire in my experience but no Michelin? They’re the best. Rear wiper still at bottom not under rear spoiler. Navigation and infotainment work well. The gauge cluster is the arenas my 2016 lacrosse. I can’t do a full size navigation map overlay. It just gives me turn by turn. Hud is same as lacrosse from 2016. The adaptive cruise and fab or assist braking same as lacrosse 2016. Why was this left out for so long? These are common features and parts that have been used for over five years already and longer. Why can’t we get ota updates or diy on such software for older models? My 2018 enclave was perfectly capable of this as is the older lacrosse. Anyways love the car good bang for the buck for a three row and some luxury. Grand Cherokee L matches the size of these things so Buick should up the ante.

    1. Oh wanted to add that I got mine with a paltry 500 discount. I was also able to add a 500 dollar b2b warranty for a year and 24k miles since gm or Buick took that 4 year to a 3 which is absurd. Thank God they added the auto stop off button. What a stupid design to meet a stupid government mandate. I was so sick of putting it into low manual or keeping the HVAC at low setting so it would never kick off. I wasn’t about to buy a harness to disable a feature I don’t want.

Numbers for those who are in the market in Florida. I was able to get around 31k on 2018 premium with 60k on the clock. I had towing extra rad for cooling etc. Car was well kept they all get ceramic coated and serviced at regular intervals despite manufacturer claims. I ended leaving the lot paying around 30950 including tax. I would expect to get around 29k or more on a 2018 or 2019 on trade minimum before things turn sour.

    1. I’m a little torn on the look of the DRLs. I liked the 2018 refresh as they kept that twilight sparkle effect with the LEDs and didn’t do the plain line/bar that most do. I want to say an angry eyebrow look. What I most dislike is that they don’t have separate turn signals and integrate with the DRL or brake lights on many other cars. All the SUVs kind of look the same to me nowadays though. I generally go GM/Buick due to the credit card discount and the fact that I don’t always see folks my age with one. I really liked the Grand Cherokee L and it comes close in size and cost but it’s a Dodge/FCA/Jeep and I’ve already been through that with a WJ years ago.

    1. He’s too busy suggesting Americans should buy EV while ignoring inflation. True patriots like Mark Wahlberg, a GM dealership owner, need to stand together against this nonsense. We deserve our NA V6 and low cost gas!!!
