The new Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV has made its official debut, setting the standard for the burgeoning three-row battery-electric crossover segment.
In the U.S., the Mercedes EQS SUV will launch with three available trim levels: EQS 450+, EQS 450 4MATIC and EQS 580 4MATIC. The EQS 450+ uses a single rear axle-mounted motor to produce 355 horsepower and 418 pound-feet of torque, while the EQS 450 4MATIC has a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup with the exact same power output and 590 pound-feet of torque. The EQS 580 4MATIC offers more performance thanks to a more powerful dual-motor setup, which is rated at 536 horsepower and 632 pound-feet of torque. The estimated range for rear-wheel-drive models sits at 332 miles to 410 miles (536 to 660 kilometers), while the dual-motor versions have an estimated range of 315 miles to 380 miles (507 kilometers to 613 kilometers). These estimates are based on the WLTP test procedure, which are typically a bit more generous than EPA test figures.
The 107.8kWh battery has a maximum charging rate of up to 200 kW on a DC fast charging station, which can fill the battery from 10 percent capacity to 80 percent in about 31 minutes. A three-phase 9.7 kW onboard charger can fill the battery from flat to full in about 11 and a half hours. The automaker’s standard Navigation with Electric Intelligence system also helps users plan their journey for maximum efficiency and locate charging stations that may be dotted along their route. The EV-optimized navigation system also provides an estimated cost to charge at the selected charging location.
This full-size luxury crossover shares a platform with the Mercedes EQS electric sedan and has the exact same wheelbase as the luxury four-door. This shared chassis features a four-link front suspension design and an independent multilink rear end. Air suspension with continuously adjustable damping is standard equipment, as is rear-axle steering. The rear-wheel steering system promises to provide a tighter turning radius at slow speeds and improved agility at higher speeds.
The EQS SUV will come standard with two rows of seating for up to five passengers, however a third row with two additional seats will be offered as an option. The 580 4MATIC trim level will come standard with the automaker’s “Hyperscreen,” infotainment system, which comprises three separate digital display screens that sit under one single piece of glass, creating a widescreen display that spans from A-pillar to A-pillar. For second row passengers, there’s an available rear-seat entertainment system with two touch-operated 11.6-inch display screens. Other standard features include a powered second row, ambient contour lighting, heated and ventilated front seats and a panoramic sunroof. Optional heated second and third row seats are also available.
Pricing for the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV has not yet been announced. It’s expected to go on sale in North America in the fourth quarter of this year. While GM does not currently offer a full-size three-electric crossover, the EQS SUV could one day be a direct competitor for a future Cadillac product that may slot into this segment.

I like how people say the lyriq is ugly ( i think its the most beautiful rn) on here when benz, BMW are making crap looking EVs.
The Lyriq is bold and modern. I want to see the interior in person though.
What vehicle does Cadillac have that competes with the GLS right now or this upcoming EQS BEV?
The Escalade is truck based so it does not compete.
XT6.
XT6 is supposedly GLE competitor but in a very comical way meaning it is not even remotely close to competing Lol
Why? Because it doesn’t say Mercedes Benz? Whatever. I’d say the XT6 is better, lower overall costs to maintain and probably more reliable. So ya, the XT6 is better.
In any measurable way mercedes equivalents to xt6 are better. Please don’t say price.
Hahaha. So I just looked up the past 3 years of JD Power reports showing the brands and how many issues per 100 vehicles. For the 2022, 2021 and 2020 reports, Chevrolet consistently ranked well above MB. I was laughing so hard that I decided to not go any farther back.
So I find it hilarious that you and Momolos attempt to belittle Cadillac for sharing some parts and engines with Chevrolet like it’s some type of bad thing.
@Dan B
Besides cost, what is better on the XT6 than the GLE?
I am very curious to know. Wonder if it is the Chevrolet Engine or maybe the amazingly modern interior.
Xyy89c and Momolos: I get it. You are both import snobs. No worries. I’ve made it clear above why I believe the XT6 is as good if not better and yet here you both are asking me to cite why or making false statements (Xyy89c) that the Mercedes is better but with zero backup to that. Funny how you attempt to take price out of the equation when price is a huge factor in what and how people buy cars. How convenient of you. Here’s why I feel the XT6 is better:
1. Better looking.
2. Lower upkeep/maintenance costs.
3. Lower insurance costs.
4. Lower purchase price when comparably equipped are higher content with similar price.
5. It’s American vs. buying more stuff from foreign countries.
Is that enough or will you attempt to defend your import snob side yet more? Better yet, why don’t you both list why you feel the MB is better, and “Please don’t say because of the name only”.
@Dan B
I love your assumption. I drive the most American made vehicle produced but sure whatever you say. Lower cost of maintenance is not something that makes the Vehicle better. What are you talking about?
Did i ever say that the Mercedes is a better Bargain?
Lower price? Yeah of course did you think GM can even dream of offering the XT6 at the same Price levels as the X5 and GLE?
Name me something besides PRICE of ownership that the XT6 is better than the GLE?
Is the Chevy V6 engine better? Nooooooope
Can you get a V8? Noooooope
Can you get an AMG equivalent? Nooooooope
Is the interior materials better? Nooooooooope
Is the Interior Design more modern? (I almost laughed typing that….Noooooope
What is better?
Momolos: Read it again. I’m not going to continue to list what I feel makes the XT6 as good or better just because you don’t like my answers. Also, read it again because I didn’t say you own an import. I clearly said import snobs. Huge difference. So let’s look at what you list:
*Chevy V6 (like that’s a bad thing). Your opinion. It’s certainly competitive.
*V8? Why? The world is turning to EV’s and you want to cry about a V8?
*It’s a Cadillac. They shouldn’t be chasing the Germans. The XT6 doesn’t need an AMG equivalent.
*Interior materials? Your opinion. What makes the XT6 materials bad?
*Interior design? Again, opinion.
Come back at me when you have something that isn’t your snobbish opinion. Lower price, lower upkeep/maint, lower insurance costs and being American are not opinions. Facts. The only thing I listed that is my opinion is that it’s better looking. From what MB has been introducing lately, I’ll stick to my opinion on that one.
@Dan B
In what World would a car aficionado ever pick the Chevy HF 3.6 V6 over a Mercedes inline Six or especially the BMW one?
Both Mercedes and BMW offer V8’s and Cadillac DOES NOT.
The XT6 doesn’t need an AMG? or is it just that a FWD (Chevrolet Platform) vehicle stands zero chance versus a RWD vehicle in performance?
Interior materials is NOT an opinion it is facts.
Interior design yes is an opinion but one held by most.
Also Tech is not an opinion but Facts.
Almost NOBODY purchasing a Luxury vehicle cares about….Lower price, lower upkeep/maint, lower insurance costs and being American are not opinions.
98% of Luxury/Performance owners could care less.
Nothing makes the XT6 even remotely better than the GLE
just so you know, I personally cannot Stand Mercedes vehicles. Never have!!!
But sure hold your prejudge mental opinion of an Import Snob. If as a True GM fan you cannot come to Grips that the XT6 isn’t even playing in the same league as the GLE or the X5 then not sure what else can be said.
Glad you love the XT6 then and never wanting for more.
I’m not impressed at all. Least it looks better than the EQS sedan disaster.
Over the past 40 years, I’ve found MB designs to go from elegant to ugly, back to classy and attractive and now back to fugly. The interior looks nice though.
And people complain about the naming scheme Cadillac has used historically and intentions moving forward? The naming Mercedes is using is ridiculous. Though Porsche may still have them beat with using Turbo to denote several of their electric models.
GMC Fan: I feel that Cadillac needs to NOT chase the Germans and they need to do what Cadillac does best. That includes naming instead of alphabet soup.
I’m glad you mention the Porsche. Sunday I was driving down the street when I came upon what I thought was an all electric Porsche. However, I noticed the “Turbo” on the back, so I then thought I was just mistaken about it being an EV only. Thanks for clarifying that. Why on earth would they place a Turbo on the back? Is it a plug-in EV with a tiny turbo gas engine?
I don’t get their naming scheme so my best recommendation is to look online at the Taycan. That’s a full EV regardless of the naming.
Turbo gets added to their mid-level Taycan. Essentially suggests more power versus models below it. In total I think they have 6 different model levels for the Taycan. Each ones gets a higher level of power. Absolutely ludicrous.
Cadillac seems to be on the right path with their naming. It’s all new names giving them the chance to start from scratch. They’ll have the 450, 600, etc to help identify power levels. The biggest problem is they brought Yohan in and he totally changed things to suit him, disregarding all of Cadillacs history. Now they have to overcome that and they’re doing it with EVs.
In terms of appearance I feel these new electric Mercedes models are a disgrace to the Mercedes nameplate
Looks very weird from the exterior in my opinion it looks more like a C Class level suv rather than an S Class suv. The interior though looks nice with good tech and materials from what I can see.
Wow could these electric blobs be any more bland and generic looking? If this is the styling or lack of styling direction we have coming I will be sticking with older cars for years to come!
I have a sport platinum on order but I drove the EQS SUV. IT is a better vehicle. The ride is more comfortable and the handling is far superior. The acceleration is a world of difference. The traction is uncomparably better. The outside is not exciting but it is to create a lower drag to get better range. I don’t think it would be fugly but bland, not exciting on the outside but the interior more than makes up for that. I think it is the better vehicle but there are considerations and why I am sticking with my platinum. First, it is smaller. The seat position is lower to the ground. I want bigger because I believe that is safer even though the weights of the EQS SUV is going to make interesting physics. Super Cruise is better than their distronic but in germany they have a level 3 that is on par with the elusive ultra cruise. US market doesn’t get it and I don’t know why (legal/liablity guessing). Not sure if that will be an over the air upgrade but I know you won’t be able to upgrade SC to UC int he future. The main reason is that my travels are not EV friendly. To many places that I have to drive 20 minutes to charge and then wait 30 minutes to hours. No thanks. As the network of charges get better then I will be interested and maybe it will be the escalade EV then. These are just going to get better over time. Now if governments are trying to regulate the charging port on cell phones then why the hell can’t they make it where all car charging ports are the same. Ridiculous that you need a storage compartment for all the different cables you may need. Just crazy.
