How To Use The GMC Hummer EV Watts To Freedom Mode

When you think about it, the GMC Hummer EV is pretty insane. GM has revived the iconic Hummer nameplate as an all-new, battery-driven monster capable of not only bashing around off-road, but also accelerating as hard as a modern sports car (if not harder). Now, we’re taking a closer look at how to unleash all that speed with the GMC Hummer EV Watts to Freedom mode.
For those who may not know, Watts to Freedom mode is essentially launch control for the GMC Hummer EV, tailoring the onboard systems specifically for maximum acceleration, affecting the pedal map, ABS, traction control, electronic stability control, ride height, Electric Vehicle Sound Enhancement, suspension, steering, active rear steer system, and electronic Four-Wheel Drive system. Properly unleashed, it’ll push the new Hummer EV to 60 mph in just 3 seconds.
To activate Watts to Freedom mode, first bring the vehicle to a complete stop. Then, press the traction control button on the instrument panel twice (the button is below an icon with the outline of a car, two wavy lines, and the word “OFF”). After pressing the button twice, a video will appear on the infotainment screen, complete with sound, while a message will display on the Driver Information Center to confirm that the GMC Hummer EV suspension is lowering for launch.
Next, the instrument cluster will display a Power Gauge Capability graphic, which will monitor the battery temperature as it optimizes for performance. When ready, a message will indicate that Watts to Freedom mode is active. Once the mode is entered, the driver seat will vibrate.
To engage, straighten the steering wheel and depress the brake pedal with your left foot. When adequate braking pressure is applied, a message will display in the instrument cluster instructing the driver to “Floor It,” at which time the throttle can be pressed down to the carpet.
With both pedals depressed, a final message will display telling the driver to release the brake to launch the vehicle. Quickly release the brake with your right foot still planted, and the GMC Hummer EV will take off.
After accelerating, Watts to Freedom will default to standby mode until the vehicle comes to a complete stop. The launch can be repeated until Watts to Freedom mode is exited. To exit, select a new drive mode, press the traction control button, or turn the vehicle off.
To note, Watts to Freedom mode will not work if the battery charge level is too low, or if the vehicle suspension cannot be lowered. GM reiterates that Watts to Freedom is intended only for use on a closed course and should not be used on public roads.
As a reminder, the GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 is equipped with 1,000 horsepower and a three-motor powertrain with the latest GM Ultium technology. Under the skin is the GM BT1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Factory Zero.

I get that those are the steps to go 0-60 in 3 seconds in this vehicle, but I’m curious to know what’s the 0-60 time when in a “normal” mode? How much is given up when you aren’t in battery protection mode??
When will this idiocy cease. Factory zero need, zero want, zero interest, zero sales.
With the looming recession. Come on higher interest rates.
10 year is nearly at 3% and it still has a ways to go up. Maybe we can hit 10% interest rates by this fall and bring an end to the free money economy.
Ya, heaven forbid GM build something fun and interesting in spite of all you boring lefties yarning for autonomous transportation pods…meh.
I say punch it and have fun while we still can…
