The 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate is a new range-topping trim level that brings a long list of luxurious content to the full-size pickup, such as Vader chrome exterior trim, 22-inch wheels and GM’s CarbonPro composite cargo box. This high-end pickup also features an Alpine Umber interior, which GMC says “builds on the already luxurious Denali cabin” with full-grain leather appointments and open-pore Paldao wood trim.”
GM Authority readers may have seen us reference the available open-pore Paldao wood trim for the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate in the past and wondered exactly what this material is, so we decided to clear the air a little. Paldao wood is derived from the Paldao tree (surprise, we know) which is native to Southeast Asian countries like Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, among others. These are large trees, often growing to be between 100 and 120 feet tall in the wild, and boasting a sizable trunk diameter of between five and seven feet on average. When it comes to wood vehicle trim, the term ‘open pore’ is used to reference wood that has a thin layer of lacquer applied to it, keeping the natural pores of the wood intact and giving the trim a raw, almost untreated finish. Wood vehicle trim is often covered in a thicker layer of lacquer to improve its durability and to give it a very glossy shimmer.
Other highlights of the available Alpine Umber interior in the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate include full-grain leather upholstery, a leather-trimmed instrument panel, door panels, and console lid, a premium microsuede headliner, and Sierra Denali Ultimate interior badging. A laser engraving depicting topographical maps of Mount Denali has also been etched into the Sierra Denali Ultimate’s dash, further differentiating it from the run-of-the-mill Denali trim level. Readers who want to see more of the truck’s cabin can check out this interior tour video that GM Authority covered previously.
Under the hood of the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate is a naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The V8 connects to a GM 10-speed automatic transmission with Electronic Precision Shift, as well as four-wheel drive and an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case as standard. Denali Premium Suspension with Adaptive Ride Control is also standard equipment.
Pricing (including GM’s required destination freight charge) for the 2022 Sierra Denali Ultimate starts at $81,790. GM accepted pre-orders for the truck following its official debut, all of which have since been spoken for.

You guys don’t actually do much. I don’t mean offense. But this ‘article’ is using stock renders from months ago. Not your own real world pictures of a real truck interior. Rarely ever any sort of real world reviews. Mostly just rehashed press articles or articles from elsewhere, and vehicle crashes involving a GM branded vehicle, and patent filings, and advertisements for random exhaust kits. Can I ask why that is? Why not do reviews and original content and journalism?
For instance, if you were to remove the press release/GMC website details from this article, what would be left is actually an article about a tree. So what is a criticism without a constructive solution. Go sit in this truck, tell us if it’s actually nice and tactile and worthy of the Ultimate Package price tag. With real photos showing that open pore wood that GM so nicely described for you.
I would challenge anyone on here to put out content 7 days a week in an very unique vehicle market we are currently in. It’s not easy.
There’s a difference between putting out something newsworthy or garbage as filler. I blame it on the writers, two in particular.
I wonder about just how many actual GM contacts these GMA ‘reporters’ actually have -inside the realm of GM. and how many ‘insiders’ do they have there. This site is pretty much a main source for us, or one would assume, for current and future GM news. And but, by these guys just being lazy and gleaning the internet mostly for their content doesn’t really benefit most of us ‘visitors’. I’m thinking that because they do this(internet combing), they figure that they know all there is to gather about GM, so no one else on the outside knows about it as much as they do. But Alex is paying them to get GM info wherever they can get it, but it ‘looks’ like they just comb the internet and that’s it. That’s what it appears to be anyway.
First I’ve seen it. Glad it’s here.
While the new interior looks much better than the old. Just look at the center console today, compared to even 10 years ago. It’s still asthectically the same today , with only minor improvements.
Yes and GM authority always uses the worst looking truck of the series like a custom , or SLE. always dark colors and black wheels too,
And always negative comments from you Mickey!
happy GM guy ,
Check it out, 13 thumbs up agree. I say it like it is about GM and this crap there turning out , and broken promise after broken promise from this corporation , excuses, no communication and you know it. its all about bean counting with mary barryass. every other guy on here keeps waiting for change, there crap blown interiors have been the same since 2010. now a new car dash. sit at a red light and look at all the cheap unfinished black plastics on wheel lips, bed steps, bumper steps, 2″ tall mud guards, tiny little pieces on the bed, bed caps, front fascia, the mirrors ( stupid door mount) Hood plastics , fog light bezels, and it go’s on. cheap thin seats, tiny dash knobs, what a mess GM has made.
I tend to agree that there is far to much in the way of ultra cheap plastic trim used not only on the immensely overpriced trucks but cars as well.
And always happy positive comments from the never ended Mr Grinch Mickey
Wow, hey Sam Mc and J Lo, I guess I’m not the only one that’s tired of your stupid ass articles! I guess both of you were sleeping in journalism school?
I’m very, very disappointed with GM, they are rendered only dark colors. This is my third High Country, one blue and the last two cherry red. My saleswoman at Nicol Auto in La Sarre Québec told me that GM no longer made Cherry Gray and Red and also no Micro Ship (puse). So I said NO THANK YOU, I don’t want any other color than Cherry Red and I kept my Sylverado Hihg Country 2018, 6.2 L which I like BUT. Since 2011 I’ve been changing my trucks every three years but this time it’s a BIG NO. I looked at you at Ford and Dodge RAM for my Cherry Red color. To bad so sad GM, you will lose a good customer, very very disappointed with you other GM… You can look in your system and you will see that I am not a liar… I would like to have a followup on my comment and I ask you to answer me ASAP… 🙁
Why did GM make you their truck model like the Chevy Nova Montana and Siera truck in Brazil… Is it cheaper to make them in this country’s and once in the USA / Canada you are going to charge us consumers more… And for the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate’s Paldao Wood (wood from a Asia Tree), exterior Trim such as Vader Chrome, 22-inch Whells and GM’s CarbonPro composite Cargo Box, is flown into U.S. from Southeast Asia, pricing starts at $81,790.00 U.S.,. What a bad GM administration… You should give the work to our employers in our two countries USA and Canada, you are not helping our GM economies… You are incompetent…
I am not happy about you GM, you are very bad… 🙁
There is a cherry red for 2022 LTD and 2022 refresh
Is this wood so much better than good old American walnut or red oak or is it just that it warrants a premium price?
The wood name is for the truck snobs who will mention it to every passenger. It will not be any more durable.
Globalist gm merely has an internal edict to redistribute as many good old American dollars to Asia as possible.
Besides all the other shortages, the Ultimate does not come with a max trailing package. Horrible. The dealer would not give me a list of options W/A (when available). I called a GM 800 number – and had a great experience; they gave me a website with every option and WAs. I returned the favor to the dealer and had my “reservation” deposit returned (to separate my customer profile from that dealer).
I’d like some work done on those trucks delivered without options due to semiconductor shortages – and GM’s track record of delivering these chips at no cost. Its time to hold GM accountable.
I have an Ultimate on order since around the first of the year. How about providing some information concerning delivery dates.
That is a damn good looking truck.
Like the wood trim, but hate that tan on gray interior.
