Here Are The 2022 Cadillac Crossover Towing Capacities

Cadillac is obviously best known for offering loads of luxury and cutting-edge tech features, but the current Cadillac crossover lineup can also provide some decent towing capacity if needed. Now, GM Authority is taking a closer look at the 2022 Cadillac crossover towing capacities with the following in-depth comparison.

Note that this comparison focuses on the three Cadillac crossover models, including the Cadillac XT4, Cadillac XT5, and Cadillac XT6. For those readers interested in the towing capacity of the 2022 Cadillac Escalade, check out our previous coverage.

Also of note are the optional upgrades on offer that boost max trailering weight. For the Cadillac XT4, this includes the Trailering Package (RPO code V92), which adds in a Heavy-duty cooling system (RPO code V08) and two-inch receiver and wiring connector, while the Cadillac XT5 and Cadillac XT6 are both available with the Smart Towing package (RPO code V92), which adds in Hitch Guidance (RPO code CTT), Hitch Guidance with Hitch View (RPO code PZ8), a hitch, a Hitch cover and seven-wire harness, a 170-amp alternator (RPO code KW7, optional on Premium Luxury, standard on Sport), and a Heavy-duty cooling system (RPO code V08, optional on Premium Luxury, standard on Sport).

With that covered, let’s kick things off with the Cadillac XT4, which is equipped with the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine, rated at 235 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 258 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm. The four-cylinder mates to the GM nine-speed automatic transmission, feeding either the front wheels as standard or all four wheels as optional. Max trailer weight for the XT4 is 3,500 pounds when equipped with Trailering Equipment Package.

Next is the Cadillac XT5, which is equipped with either the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine, or the atmospheric 3.6L V6 LGX gasoline engine, the latter of which is rated at 310 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 271 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm. Both engines connect to the GM nine-speed automatic transmission, with front-wheel drive as standard and all-wheel drive as optional. Max trailer weight for the XT5 is 3,500 pounds with the V6 engine and Smart Towing Package.

Finally, we have the Cadillac XT6, which is also available with the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine and atmospheric 3.6L V6 LGX gasoline engine. Max trailering weight for the XT6 is 4,000 pounds with the V6 and Smart Towing Package.

  1. The XT4 is a better buy for towing capacity is concerned. But in reality, many people will not use these crossover for towing.

  2. If they made the XT6 in RWD I’d buy one. Driving dynamics are much better with RWD the FWD based vehicles. Now with most everything moving to EV I’m really out of the market.

  3. Imagine a model with 4WD/AWD on demand in the XT6 based on RWD. Traverse and Enclave included. I would trade in my FWD Traverse and buy a 4×4 Traverse. Drive in 2WD until you need 4×4 or AWD.
