GM’s All-New Wuling MINI EV GameBoy Edition Now On Sale In China

After first revealing the all-new Wuling MINI EV GameBoy Edition in early March, SAIC-GM-Wuling has just released the new edition of Wuling‘s successful all-electric minicar in China. General Motors’ second joint venture in the Asian country officially began sales of the MINI EV GameBoy as the latest addition to the model family that leads the market for zero-emission vehicles in the region.

The launch of the all-new Wuling MINI EV GameBoy Edition becomes the model’s new top-of-the-line variant, introducing a specific exterior design and customization elements focused on the male audience. In fact, while the MINI EV Macaron Edition has attracted mostly women, SGMW stated that men make up 77 percent of the 30,000 reservations it received for the new GameBoy since March 9th.

Unlike the more subtle and rounded shapes of the existing versions with the traditional red logo, the all-new Wuling MINI EV GameBoy Edition debuts a new bolder and more modern exterior design. The front includes larger, rectangular headlamps and a specific C-shaped LED lighting signature that runs horizontally across the top of the grille, highlighting the new illuminated Global Silver logo.

In addition to introducing a specific exterior design and the adoption of the brand’s latest corporate image, the all-new Wuling MINI EV GameBoy Edition debuts an updated electric powertrain that develops 30 kW or 40 horsepower, along with a larger 26 kWh lithium-phosphate battery pack, providing a maximum driving range of up to 300 km (186 miles) – nearly double the 170 km range of the current MINI EV. It also comes standard with a 3.3 kW charger.

As the joint venture teased last month, the Wuling MINI EV GameBoy hits the Chinese market with four highly customized video game-inspired themes. The special editions are the “Hurricane Phantom” painted in matte black with red accents, the camouflage green “Jungle Crossing” inspired by military combat games, the ice white “Interstellar Roaming” and the brown accent “Party Sweetheart.”

The all-new Wuling MINI EV GameBoy is now available throughout the extensive Wuling dealer network in China, in a total of four configurations distributed in two trim levels called Play and Play Coffee, both with 200 and 300 km range variants. This new edition strengthens the MINI EV’s position as China’s best-selling electric vehicle, with more variants on the way such as the upcoming MINI EV Cabrio.

Here are the starting prices of the new Wuling MINI EV GameBoy Edition in China:

  • MINI EV GameBoy Play 200 km: 55,800 CNY (about $8,770 USD at the current exchange rate)
  • MINI EV GameBoy Play Coffee 200 km: 57,800 CNY ($9,080 USD)
  • MINI EV GameBoy Play 300 km: 67,800 CNY ($10,650 USD)
