Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
GMC Yukon sales kept the full-size SUV family in second place in the mainstream full-size SUV segment during Q1 2022, representing the third quarter in a row (after Q4 2021 and Q3 2021) that the circumstance has taken place.
Our approach to the figures remains: Ford combines sales of the Expedition and Expedition Max into a single line item called Expedition, while GM’s Chevy Tahoe and Suburban as well as the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL are reported on separate line items. To keep it apples-to-apples, we combine sales of the Tahoe with those of the Suburban, and do the same with sales of the Yukon and Yukon XL.
The Yukon’s corporate cousins, the Chevy Tahoe (see running Chevy Tahoe sales) and Chevy Suburban (see running Chevy Suburban sales), together continued to lead the pack with a seven percent increase in sales, to 36,403 units. The Yukon family remained in second place with a 15 percent growth to 21,296 units. The Ford Expedition family (see running Ford Expedition sales) took third with 56 percent drop to 9,718 units. It’s worth noting that the regular-length Yukon recorded 12,123 deliveries, beating the Expedition on its own by over 2.4K units without the addition of the extended-length Yukon XL variant. Together, the Yukon family had over twice as many deliveries as the Expedition during the quarter.
The all-new Jeep Wagoneer, which launched this past summer, took fourth place with 7,055 units. The Nissan Armada took fifth with a 78 percent drop in sales to 1,643 units, while the Toyota Sequoia took last place with a 79 decrease in sales to a mere 422 units.

The GM Authority Take
Not only did the GMC Yukon family outsell the Ford Expedition range for the third consecutive quarter, but the regular-length Yukon alone accomplished that feat this time around. Combined, the Yukon family had nearly two-and-a-half times more deliveries than the Expedition duo. The Yukon and Yukon XL were only outdone by corporate cousins Chevy Tahoe/Suburban, which together enabled The General to totally own the mainstream full-size SUV segment.
The Yukon family was overhauled (re-engineered and redesigned) for the 2021 model year. With new looks, technology, enhanced performance, and optimized efficiency, Big Red’s duo, along with Chevy’s Tahoe/Suburban, continue to appeal to a broad range of the market.
Yet GM is already prepping a refresh of the Yukon, which is set to debut for the 2024 model year. We recently brought you spy photos of a prototype of the 2024 GMC Yukon refresh undergoing testing, followed by photos of the upcoming 2024 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate trim level as it underwent testing.
Since then, GM Authority has learned from sources familiar with the matter the details surrounding the new Yukon Denali Ultimate trim. As a reminder, the Denali Ultimate trim was first introduced with the fully refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500Â as the most-luxurious Sierra 1500 yet, becoming the new range-topping trim in the GMC Sierra lineup. More recently, we spied the Yukon Denali Ultimate testing, this time being the Yukon XL model with minimal camo. In fact, the prototype did not include a styling facelift, indicating that it will launch for either the 2022i (2022 interim) or 2023 model year.
Of course competitors will continue to try and get even a small slice of this very lucrative segment. The latest entry is the fully redesigned 2023 Toyota Sequoia revealed in January 2022 as a fresh new rival to the regular-wheelbase Yukon and Tahoe.
And in April, Stellantis debuted the Jeep Wagoneer L and the more luxuriously appointed Grand Wagoneer L, with the two extended wheelbase full-size SUVs set to rival GM’s own extended-length offerings, including the Yukon XL, Suburban, and Cadillac Escalade ESV. GM seems to have already anticipated these challenges, and is getting ready to offer the aforementioned GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate trim while also working on the refreshed 2024 GMC Yukon.
That said, the rise in sales volume of the regular-length Wagoneer is certainly worthy of note. It will be curious, however, whether the Jeep entries will be able to sustain their existing growth rate, or if interest will taper as pent-up demand is satisfied.

GMC Yukon Denali RHD Remanufacturing Begins In Australia

I feel like the Sequoia Will give the Yukon a run for the money. Especially the AT4 Vs TRDPro model battle. Denali still reigns king
Toyota buyers prove over and over that no matter how dated their models are, they won’t look elsewhere when it comes time to replace their existing Toyota. See Tacoma as perfect example.
Now there may be an increase in Sequoia sales but over time that will drop. This is due to Toyota buyers finally having an upgraded product that’s closer to competitive and emphasizes how bad their old Toyota product really was. I highly doubt there will be many buyers from other brands shifting to these Toyotas though.
Just like Honda atv’s , Honda has built the same reliable atvs for 20 years with basically very little change, and guys buy them up every year. GM Ford Ram all play this game with fake HP, fake Torque, goofy ass tech and so much change that it leads to tons of recalls on the junk.
Yes, once the Sequoia gets reattach to it’s frame from turbo repair, watch out GM!….
Maybe, but look at the over-wrought Sequoia. NOBODY is going to select the Sequoia over a Yukon based on looks. As GMC Fan stated, any bump in Sequoia sales are not only within existing Toyota fan base (no conquests here!), but the novelty will fizzle out soon enough. GM’s BOF SUVs have ALWAYS had clean-cut good looks. Clean-cut good looks ALWAYS leads sales (you listening, Cadillac?- not Escalade design team). And that’s why GM is dominating with this current generation of BOF SUVs: great engineering, innovation and good, clean looks. I could fill this thread criticizing the over-wrought design on Toyota’s and Lexus’ latest products, but coming back, if this Sequoia is the best Toyota can do to set the stage for the next 6-8 years, then GM will remain sales king of full-size BOF SUVs.
Please stop saying that the Denali Ultimate Package was first introduced in a 2022 Sierra 1500. It has been around for a while. My 2021 GMC Yukon XL Denali is an Ultimate trim level. The only thing that makes it the “new” Denali Ultimate Package is what is included in it. They constantly change the contents.
Please stop repeatedly saying that the Denali Ultimate Package was first introduced in a 2022 Sierra 1500. It has been around for a while. I own a 2021 GMC Yukon XL Denali Ultimate. My 2018 was a Yukon XL Denali Ultimate too!
The only things that make it a “new” Denali Ultimate Package for 2022 are what is included in it. They constantly change the options included.

What are the different Denali packages?
But for those who want to add even more luxury to their 2021 GMC Yukon Denali, GMC will happily offer three optional packages – Denali Deluxe Package, Denali Premium Package, and Denali Ultimate Package. GM Authority has learned exactly what features the three optional packages include, and how much each will cost. May 15, 2020
