The GMC Hummer EV Pickup has been named one of the ten best electric vehicles to own or purchase in 2022 by AutoTrader.com.
The consumer advice publication released its annual best electric vehicles ranking on Tuesday, which outlines those vehicles that AutoTrader editors believe are the best-of-the-best. Editors praised the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup for reviving the Hummer nameplate in a more eco-friendly fashion. They also noted its capability and frankly absurd performance.
“GM’s first all-electric pickup truck revives the Hummer nameplate, this time as a sub-brand of GMC,” AutoTrader says of the new battery-electric pickup. “In stark contrast to the original gas-guzzling behemoth Hummer, this new EV pickup is a monstrously capable, fast, quiet, electron-powered beauty.”
The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup wasn’t the only electric truck included in the list. The Rivian R1T was also named one of the ten best EVs for 2022, with editors saying the R1T “brims with technological innovations and delightful details.” GM Authority spy photographers caught GM benchmarking the Rivian R1T pickup at its Milford Proving Ground in Michigan earlier this month, so it seems as though GM is also rather impressed with the R1T.
Other vehicles in AutoTrader.com’s ranking included the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge, 2022 VW ID.4, 2022 Tesla Model 3, 2022 Mercedes EQS, 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5, 2022 KiaEV6, 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E and the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV.
This ranking is actually rather informative, as AutoTrader’s editorial team drove and lived with every single one of the vehicles on the list. The publication says these editors evaluated “important factors like the interiors, exteriors, powertrains, ride and handling, comfort, features, and of course, prices.” They also evaluated the vehicles based on the purposes for which they were built, whether it be commuting, family-friendly transportation, or, in the case of the GMC Hummer EV, conveying a sense of prestige and delivering impressive performance.
Brian Moody, an executive editor at Autotrader, believes EV sales will increase in the coming months and years due to rising fuel costs.
“There are more EV choices than ever before in 2022, with a wide range of prices, styles and capabilities, ensuring there is an EV available to fit into most any lifestyle,” Moody said. “As gas prices continue to rise and fluctuate throughout the United States, EVs are likely to become even more appealing to car shoppers as they consider their next new-vehicle purchase.”
