GM has announced that it is encouraging suppliers to sign a new pledge that supports the automaker’s goals with respect to environmental concerns and human rights.
Dubbed the Environmental, Social and Governance Partnership Pledge, the commitment encourages GM suppliers to achieve carbon neutrality by certain future dates, as determined by their respective industry, as well as to achieve a base minimum score in the EcoVadis Labor & Human Rights and Ethics pillars, and the EcoVadis Sustainable Procurement pillar.
According to GM, suppliers representing more than 53 percent of the automaker’s $76 billion direct material annual purchase value in 2021 have signed the pledge thus far.
“There are economic and social imperatives in lowering emissions and addressing climate change while cultivating a just transition,” said GM vice president of Global Purchasing and Supply Chain, Jeff Morrison. “As we accelerate toward our vision of an all-electric future, our commitment to bringing everybody along includes our global suppliers whose collaboration is critical to promoting a sustainable, safe and better world.”
With regard to achieving carbon neutrality, GM is encouraging Professional Services to reach the goal by 2025, while Manufacturing has been given a timeframe of 2035. Finally, Raw Materials and Logistics has until 2038 to reach carbon neutrality.
Meanwhile, suppliers must achieve a minimum score of 50 in the EcoVadis Labor & Human Rights and Ethics pillars by 2025, as well as a minimum score of 50 in the EcoVadis Sustainable Procurement pillar by 2025. EcoVadis is a third-party assessment that “evaluates how well a company integrates the principles of sustainability and corporate social responsibility into their business and management system.”
“The supplier pledge expands on GM’s goal to bring ‘Everybody In’ for the all-electric future with a commitment to establishing a collaborative supply chain that endeavors to minimize environmental impact and enhance long-term sustainability,” GM states.
Looking ahead, GM plans to reach carbon neutrality across its global products and operations by 2040. What’s more, The General will transition to a fully electric powertrain lineup for its new light-duty vehicles by 2035, with a whopping 30 new EV models slated to launch globally by 2025.

Ah yes another bright GM idea.
Let’s force suppliers to bow to our political agenda while there is serious supply disruptions.
Even more amusing is how GM ditched very environmentally friend vehicles like the Volt, Chevy Cruze Diesel and the Equinox/Terrain Diesel and left the Spark EV owners out in the cold with an unrepairable vehicle.
Nevermind the lack of quality and the fact their vehicles won’t last past 150,000 miles and will have to be crushed so we can bellow more pollution out to create more low quality vehicles.
GM really is a gullible unprincipled company.
This isn’t GM, this is their stock/market managers. Duck duck go ESG (environmental social governance) and the WHO (world economic forum) massive fund managers such as Blackrock holdings (buddy buddy with the Chinese communist party) and Vanguard (who’s been in the bid war over twitter with Elon musk) are telling GM, ford and stellantis, “you will be full EV by 2030, or we will pull our funds, deny you loans and crash you.” This is economic totalitarianism, and is illegal. Arizona already has a trustbusting case-fiduciary responsibility case open, cause the build back better, BLM is our #1 focus is 100% financial irresponsible.
GM just earned it’s lowercase gm name as they refused to put their employees and rolled over like wimps
Jake
That is some serious 7th level conspiracy sht. Try not holding the belt so tight around your neck when you pleasure yourself.
The real truth is we are past peak oil. GM and the other auto companies are pushing back hard with electric to prevent the complete collapse of their business.
Also President Biden’s Build Back Better bill never got through Congress. So whatever Arizona is doing is nothing more than political theater, and a complete waste of Taxpayer dollars.
Peak oil? That has been called so many times. All wrong. I am sure you are right though
Xyy89c
“The cure for high oil prices is high oil prices” has also been said many times, but here we are.
The price of gasoline has been rising for 2 years. With no end in sight. Even as western nations are adding millions of barrels a day out of their reserves. Consumers are purchasing 1/2 million BEVs and PHEVs every month. Oil companies are drilling and fracking what they can. This is exactly what peak oil looks like.
Ummm we aren’t even close to peak oil.
Biofuels will take over long before peak oil.

Back to your safe space junior,
I know that’s right

Tell the governor Disney World would like to say: Thanks for the $187 million yearly tax break, and don’t worry. Our employees who live in Orange County won’t be saying “Gay” when they get next years tax bill.
Nice talking poimt BS. Disney is on hook for 200 million in taxes. Minimum. libs are so brainwashed.
Nope! Disney was paying Florida $187 million a year for its Special government district. Now that that’s been revoked they don’t have to pay that money anymore.
What next buy a Chevy save a kitten program?
The truth is this is not gullibility or Unprincipled. It is Survival in a very fabricated media world.
This is sadly a world now where 1% can influence though the web the many gullible people out in the real world.
I still expect them to go after Musk on his purchase of twitter. You can bet files are being deleted and papers shredded before he walks in.
Today it is the court of public opinion and a lot of damage can be done by people that lie.

You should be as happy as a klans man at a cross burning. Elon may let Trump tweet again.
MASA – Make America Stupid Again.
Pete no matter who everyone should have fee and equal ability to say what they think no matter what their opinion is. That is how this country was formed.
I don’t agree with many things on the we including you but the constitution says you have that right to express your opinion.
What part of constitutional law do you not believe?
You have a right not to agree with Trump but you don’t hold the right to silence him or anyone for their for
Belief’s.

Twitter is not owned the government. They do not have to provide a forum for a megalomaniac who refuses to accept that he lost the last election.
Your first mistake was thinking Trump lost the election! Your fearless leader Joe Biden who can’t complete a coherent sentence has been wonderful for this Country! Only took him 18 months to destroy every positive gain the Trump Admin gave us!
1st: This is America. We’re not some 3rd world banana republic that can’t count votes. Trump lost and he lost in a landslide.
2nd There we’re no positive gains under Trump. Crime spiked; Economy shut down; nation divided; race riots in the street; children torn from their families; pandemic left raging; he estranged our Allie’s and left us $7.8 trillion deeper in debt.
You will have to excuse little petey. He’s/she’s not sure if he’s/she’s a boy or a girl.

Son why don’t you go out and play ball in the middle of the highway, while the adults talk.
Meanwhile GM is paying Mexican auto workers $8 per day. Hypocrites.
To be fair they have a much lower cost of living.
A single person estimated monthly costs are 512$ (10,347MXN) without rent. Mexico City is 62.87% less expensive than New York (without rent). Just one thing that needs considered, A middle class wage here can give you a home with a live in house keeper.
Still hard to obtain on $8 a day….
They live in dirt huts with no windows! LMAO. have you been to Mexico outside the resort? Dumbass. Slave labor is slave labor no matter what demographic you come from. Look at China!
And Chinese workers $1 a day.
GM can kiss my well tanned behind.
So will GM stop buying from and selling in China?
That is the problem. China is like Heroin and all mfg. and consumers are addicted to it,.
They stop buying there and the prices go up and then customers stop buying. It is easier said than done.
Everyone hates Walmart for cheap China products yet people still shop there.
People are buy USA till they have to pay a lot more for many items.
Now we are fighting Biden inflation and that just amplifies it.
Does this include the Chinese partners/government?
GM’s full embrace of wokeness, ESG and buddying up to the Biden White House are reasons I’m no longer a GM fan. I’ve owned GM cars for the last 40 years, but I seriously doubt my next one will be GM. Funny it wasn’t 40 years of experiencing indifferently made car that did it, but politics.
Mark
No worries, GM will soon have 40 million new customers in Ukraine. All paid for with money confiscated from Russian Oligarchs.
It takes a sick person like you to make that sarcastic comment over the situation in Ukraine.
Homer
Have you tried Charmin Ultra Soft?
It’s especially made for over sensitive A-holes, just like you.
Speaking of over sensitive A-holes you just can’t seem to help yourself from responding to anything that you don’t agree with and start the name calling or put downs. It must be a tough life hating your country so much and being so miserable all the time! Cheers
Joe Yoman
You must have me confused with one brain dead morons that attacked their own capital.
Keep the comedy coming. It’s so really amusing and entertaining watching you make yourself look like a complete tool.
If I wanted to look like a complete tool I would have said:
Person Man Woman Camera T.V.
So commenters here think it’s bad that companies work to always improve, including eliminating water pollution along with toxins into the air? What, you think we should go back to the 70s and start producing asbestos again? If that’s really the mindset, please work on the front line of those facilities so we can eliminate such stupidity.
It is one thing to not pollute a river but it is another to cave to climate change nazis.
Again, let’s go back to the 70s when it was the norm to pollute rivers. Intervention forced that to stop and companies looking to the future worked to find ways to improve even more. How is this a bad thing?
Would you prefer to go back to your previous work or was it better to push yourself to improve and look to the future?
Ridiculously sad how so many want to go back to the past and stay there.
Yeah, pathetic whining. Who said go back to 60s. I am fairly certain there are laws now stopping that.
Again you just do not comprehend.
One can believe in being a good steward of the environment without being a political hack pushing climate change.
All that companies did with these regulations is move their operations to countries that do nor have them. Hence, much of our former manufacturing base is in Mexico and China.
Hey GMC Fan, I agree 100%, but there’s way too many “Fox News rubes” here to get anywhere with science or logic or reason. They only repeat what Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson gaslights them with. They are lemmings who can’t think for themselves. Hey I think I just described your typical Pickup Truck owner! LOL
For which GM, I’m sorry, gm begs buyers to buy and rely on to pay for these extremely expensive and overpriced “projects”. Electric vehicles for most that don’t know history, was already tried several times and several times have failed. Why should this time be different?
Best thing about this article, is the comment section. The average citizen isn’t buying this BS.
Careful with your extrapolation Jake. The average citizen is not a GMA reader.
Human rights pledge, huh?
Meanwhile, GM has locked it’s workers in their China assembly facilities; keeping them prisoners so that production can keep running and not hurt GM.
Hypocrites!!
What a joke. Massive operations in China. Start there
But we certainly can’t risk offending the CCP…
Seriously, I had a hard time deciding which of the China comments to respond to, but agree with all that see the gross hypocrisy here…this is a complete joke. It gives me some hope that so many others see it to.
And for the record, I happily pay more for something not made in China…I prioritize made in USA first, then made by an ally of USA, then by a country friendly & aligned with USA…I only buy China-made when there is literally no other option (which is mostly toys for my kid).
GM needs new leadership to focus on building vehicles that people want to buy and forget the activism. Leave that to the social warriors.
You guys just don’t get it, do you? And sadly, you probably never will. A bunch of die-hard boneheads.
Be careful Ms. Mary, Disney got too far out on that limb and it’s going to cost them dearly in taxes and they alienated at least 50% of their customers, that’s very stupid. Ms. Mary needs to understand her customers and quit worrying so much about the woke mob and government. The GOP is taking over Congress in a few months and a lot of this woke BS will go away.
It’s estimated that Disney will save almost a billion dollars in taxes that will instead be levied on the surrounding communities. Real smart DeSantis. What a boob LOL
Unlike many States that need to wh*re themselves out for every tax $, FL has a solid economy and a well-run State government…the Disney decision had less to do with tax revenue than you’re assuming. Lobbyists and big corporations should not be dictating public policy…
The moment GM goes all EV, is the moment I stop buying GM products. Does anyone have any common sense anymore? What powers these vehicles and what does it take to mine this material? Where do you get the power to charge the vehicle and what supplies that electrical source? What do you do with the bad batteries when they go bad? Environmental concerns my ass! Political Theater at best because science and common sense has left the building! I have a fleet of Chevy Trucks and vans for my company! GM goes WOKE with fake climate Change activism so GM will go Broke! Battery powered Corvette, No thank you! Saw the mustang EV the other day, looks like crap. You want to make an electric vehicle for the 10% that want one, fine, but give me the option to stay with my gas powered vehicle!
Ahem, well, I’ll keep buying gm products but I’m against any decisions preventing choice from others.
I’ve previously warned that gm will have to live with the consequences of their actions…. Seems like fleet buyers who want/like/or need ICE trucks will simply buy Stellantis’ RAM products…
I like Biden’s directive to the armed forces: all future vehicles have to be Electric..
Picture a future tank battle:
The private gets out of the run down battery-powered tank in the middle of shooting and asks his commanding officer:
” Uh,… Where do we plug it in…. Sir ???”
haha.
The number of off-base, delusional, misguided, and just plain ignorant comments on this forum are pretty amazing. I mean the one’s denouncing GM and their motives. Smart people get it, while dumb, paranoid, conspiracy theory types who are in deep denial don’t.
Huey4417 and the fake News: What amazes me are people that lack critical thinking skills. They would rather be told what to think and what to say rather than following facts not fiction! I bet you drive a Prius, live in your parent’s basement and are a world-renowned climatologist. I also bet you thought the world was going to end starting in the 60’s when the first climate experts called it. Shouldn’t California be under water by now? Who’s in denial? Your liberal CNN, MSNBC watching is glaringly obvious. Mindless sheep channels! So keep insulting people by calling them ignorant while you live in your fantasy world that should have ended by now according to AOC!
Thank you for proving my point.
American proved that you are a typical Millennial Liberal that refuses to use their own brain cells and relies on the government to tell them what to do and think. Now go back in the cellar and play with your video games and leave the adults to figure out the real problems.
That’s funny because you’re talking to a college educated 62 year old white male professional who’s spent his entire career in the auto industry. You guys are too much lol
Funny because you talk like every liberal Millennial I know as I work in a school system and hear this all the time. Maybe it’s time to grow up and properly educate yourself instead of listening to CNN and MSNBC!
Ok Mr. Automotive industry 62-year old White guy. Sincere question, why do all liberals have to call out what color they are as if that makes a difference? Kind of shows your level of education and that you believe in identity politics. With that said, I’m a 53-year old business owner of 29 years who drives a Truck, A Lamborgini and a Corvette with a fleet of GM 2500 express vans and Chevy 1500 Silverado’s. I guess the fact that I have a truck makes me a FOX lemming? LMAO, ignorance is bliss I guess. Answer my questions in my first post and lets see how smart you really are. They are serious scientific questions if you can answer them!
All of Europe knows that all the carbon we’ve spewed into the atmosphere the last 50 years is warming the planet even faster than predicted. So I hope your children are smarter than you are.
You follow Thunberg, that dumbass Swedish teenager! I can’t take anymore, you lost me with your last comment. Now I know you are not ready for a serious educated debate. You can’t fix stupid.
You know, GM is making it harder and harder for me to back them. What about those suppliers in China? Do they get this notice too?
Yes, but will they, can they comply? Reference Shanghai currently on lockdown. No human rights there!!!
Environmental concerns and human rights? Did I hear that correctly GM? Yes, EV cars seem pretty on the outside, but what kind of environmental effect is stripping cobalt, lithium, and other metals from the earth for the batteries that power these “environmentally friendly” vehicles, all mined by peasants for pennies a day, so that in 8 months they can afford a new iPhone. Then what happens to all these batteries that are not recyclable? Somebody needs to get up on the world stage to tell all these Greenies to take their rose colored glasses off. They’re all a bunch of hypocrites.
I guess you will have to re-source a good number of your Chinese sourced parts and company car drivers will no longer be driving their vehicle of choice, Tahoe/Yukon, Suburban/Yukon XL, and Full size pickups.
Walk the talk!!!
No gm Ev’s for me. My first EV will be a Cyber Truck. I might even get a Twitter account!
The EV revolution is underway, like it or not.
Brought to you by a government poised to make billions off their Chinese paymasters fortunes by tools like you!
F**K GENERAL MOTORS! This is The Great Reset. I’m never buying another of their f*ck*ng globalist elite international communist vehicles.
I nominate this Executive Decree from the clueless woke “Progressives” running little gm into the ground under Queen MaryB for the Most Blatant Hypocrisy of the Century Award. Human Rights??? HUMAN RIGHTS?!!!? As Queen MaryB makes Buicks and others right along side the Communist Chinese Party Members???????????
To General Motors. When your customers buy a car the last thing on their mind is worldwide problems and the political SOCIAL CREDIT SCORE. Build good products, keep current/ attract new customers. Liquid fuel and EV powertrains have their own role and place in the BUYERS MARKET. Do not put all your eggs in one basket. Try and keep it simple GM.
